Why is all the good stuff made in N Scale only?

Why does it seem like all of the good stuff is being made in N scale, I switched 5 years ago because there was (at the time) more variety in HO, since I switch many engines have come out in N scale that I have anyways hoped would come in HO, for example Atlas is making Reading & Northern SD50M's in N and Athearn is making NS SD70M's with flares in N, both units are ear the top on my want list. Good stuff? HAH! You can't get decent cabooses, heavyweight passenger cars, or a wide variety of steam engines in N. N only comes close to HO in terms of modern junk.

I'll stick with HO for all my pre-1960 modeling needs!

WHAT?? [(-D][(-D][(-D]

Wow - I know we've had some great progress in new releases over the past couple of years, but to draw the envy of HO??? Please tell me you're not joking around... [;)][:D]

There may be better transision era in HO but there are more modern locos and cars in N than HO.

Depends on what you call "good stuff". For modern era, dougal, seems like you hit it on the head. For early diesels, HO is still where it's at.

Now if someone would just model North Shore Line interurbans that were affordable...guess I'll have to do it myself (again; that seems to be my whole layout!)

No matter what scale you are into, the "good stuff" is always made in another
scale[:D]

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

Dougal,

Give it time!

It's all based on marketing analysis, distributor and dealer input, and investment "recoup" potential. Remember that for years, HO modelers have been demanding "quality" early diesels with the "phase variations".

The modern units are becoming quite popular. Even that new SD70 "something with the weird nose, GE style windshields, and huge radiator wings is becoming a conversation piece in modeling circles. I'm "guessing" that Kato or Athearn are probably making plans! Still, there are more HO models on the market than ever before.

Hang in there!

I would like to see a SD-90 mac or an SD-70 with the wings. I would also like to see a roadrailer.

I don't know? there is alot of stuff that Bowser makes like their cylindrical and their airside hoppers that I wish was in HO. Alan Curtis makes the modern TTX spine cars but in N. I want 40 foot MSC containers but the only ones available are in N. I also wi***hat Atlas would make their TTX and NS articulated autoracks in HO too.

I guess we will have to wait for that. Taking them long enough though.[:(]

What scale are you talking about ???

Roadrailers are available in both N (deluxe in.) and HO (bowser)
.
Flared sd-70's are coming in N (kato ??, athearn ??)

You will not see flared sd-70's in HO, Overland has an exlusive with EMD.

Don't know if Overland's exclusive carries over to SD-90's or not.

Guys,Actually if you look close there are several first and second generation units in N scale..Atlas has many such locomotives..Take a close look at the newer Atlas cabooses and for you PRR fans Bowser has your cabin cars...Sadly there is a lack of steamers.Bachmann does make a 2-8-0,4-6-0 and a 4-8-2..Kato makes a 2-8-2 and Life Like makes a 2-8-8-2 and will be releasing a NKP 2-8-4..

I thought the good stuff was in O scale. Or is it HO. Or G. I'm not sure which scale has the most good stuff, but it's never the one I'm in and I have been in 3.[:)][:)]

But the other thing I have noticed is that no matter which scale I'm in, I can't afford all the good stuff it has - which is good because I wouldn't have the room for it[:D][:D]

Enjoy

The model makers are getting good at their business. The el cheapo mass merchants like ToysRus or WalMart don't handle trains. Even Kabee got out of the train business. The LHS or the etailer that sells quality stuff stays in business.Just look at the product line in both scales.

I'd like Model Railroader to republi***he winners of their annual model contest. for this year, take a good look at the Atlas Mogul. I'm having trouble waiting for the Shay to be released.
