Thanks for all the kind words about the layout, guys. It is beginning to take shape nicely

It isn't the only thing I've been working on this week, as I changed out the 'Wicked Wanda' sign on one of the buildings on Sweethome Chicago as well.

I've been busy adding a few trees to a bare hillside to give some height to the scene.

Jon,

Those are awesome pics! I had to look two or three times at the first one to see if you had posted the real thing to compare with. You have an amazing ability in putting together scenes. I'm just blown away at how well you can achieve all the subtle colors and textures-- you do such an overwhelmingly good job it just seems natural-- real.

I am so impressed at what you can do!!!

John,

it was a weekend´s job to do it, with most of the time spent waiting for the paint or the glue to dry. Toughest job of all was to ballast the Kato Unitrack in N scale.

Sir Madog

It is a pleasure for me to start this week´s WPF thread with a picture of the first mini-module I have (nearly) finished.

Eizan Electric Rlwy. KK (Eizan Dentetsu) Series 900 EMU "Kirara"crossing Takano River bridge

http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/SirMadig/P1020226klein-1.jpg

Module size: 6" by 12"

N scale

Setting: Japan, May 2010, 75 miles northwest of Nagoya, Island of Honshu

Kato Unitrack, painted and ballasted

Weathering done with powdered pastels

Module: 15 mm multiplex plywood

Scenery. Styrofoam

Ground cover: WS clump foliage

Bridge abutments: Greenmax

Catenary poles: Greenmax

That's really nice Ulrich! How long did it take you to make it?

Wow, an inspiration as always.  Grampy, I'm working on a scrapyard, too, but your mud is muddier and your junk is junkier than mine.  I guess I've got some more work to do.  Thanks for the images.

I call this pair Demi and Ashton.

Demi is the oldest engine still running, a relic from my teenage years.  It's an old Athearn GP9 rubber-band drive model.  It gave up long ago, but I removed the motor and now run it as a dummy.  I just got Ashton, the shiny new GP9m up front.  I've got a Tsunami for that one, but it's still in a plastic bag down in the workroom.

Meanwhile, I finally got this road finished.  The surface is Durhams Water Putty.  The grade crossings are Blair line.  This looks straight into my 45-degree roofline, where I've tucked in some low buildings by cutting their side walls on a diagonal.

It is my first attempt to do a backdrop panel. I made 5 test panels, one of which is shown. I have then tried 2 full sized panels, one of which was shown. I tried the Bob Ross method from Joy of Painting, but as I suspected, it looks easier than it is.

I'm using the KISS method...

All I need to finish the track are a pair of Kato Truss bridges, and a set of extremely short straights. that will have to wait though. I'm also going to build an inglenook for operations.

Excellent photos everyone and great start to the weekend.  I don't have nothing this week as I have been volunteering in Joplin, MO after the tornado clean up.

Grampy, love the scrapyard scene.

Art, did you paint that backdrop or have someone else do it, because it is outstanding.

Jon Grant, your layout always inspires me.  You should send in pics to MR.

Grampy, is your scenery foam or plaster rock/soil?  I liked your water courses too.

Nice work everyone!

WOW!!! This WP/VF has started out amazing. You guys have added top notch stuff this week. I can't name names because it is all amazing, but I will say to Jon Grant...these photos look very life-like. If I didn't know it was modeling I would swear they were real pics. Looks like a typical hazy summer day in the southland.

Been working on a scene of Dayton’s Bluff, a famous Limestone and Sandstone bluff beside the main lines of all the railroads that come into St Paul Minnesota. I remember it well riding the trains in the 40’s. I also wanted a scene of the skylines of Minneapolis and St, Pal. Though technically they are across the river from Dayton’s Bluff I only had room to put them behind the bluff. I then decided I wanted a sunset scene and have painted some practice panels. I have never painted much before. Here is a dark test panel behind Minneapolis and a different test panel  in a mock up using a different sky line. I will post more pics when I decide what I will finally do.

How about some moving pictures?

x1JN1nozqDo

I finished more of the cityscape then you see here, but I never recorded for posterity.  Even so, it was a cool little layout.
Here's the track plan (as best as I can remember!)

Please excuse the blurry 80s vintage video.  I did the best I could to clean it up and pick up the pacing.

This was the inspiration for the bridge scene::

Great work everybody! Love the great shots so far.

I shot a new video this week, using my Panasonic Lumix camera. This is a long coal train emerging from the Moffat Tunnel, headed by 3 locomotives. Two Dash 8's and an SD75.

DJ .... Thanks for the remark on my photo. Houses are smaller than HO. They are cheap dollar store houses, and I added paint to improve the looks. ... ... Your scrap yard looks great. What a nice idea! Idea You have a lot of scrap metal there, and I know it must have taken a long time to do such a good job.

Everybody else .... Great work!

VERY cool, DJ.  I really like the overall look, but especially admire the wet dirt of the yard with the water taking the easiest route in the various ruts.  Nicely done.

HL, that's a great shot, esp. like the houses.

B&O, any Pennsy shot is great.

Crandell, outstanding scene and photo.

Nice trucks and wheels above...love the rust.  Like the Pennsy meet, too.

I don't have a new image, but an updated one from early last year.  Added some smoke and lighting changes.

Hey everyone,

Great start to the weekend. It's been quite a while since I last had anything to contribute but recently I finished some weathering projects.

The first project was weathering one of the new ExactRail Trinity Reefers

Here is side A

Here is side B

Next I finished a couple of engines the first being this awesome SD70 Spartan Cab

Here is one of my SD80MAC, my apologies for the poor quality of the photo

Lastly, is one of two bulkhead flatcars the I finished. The other one is almost identical but a little less rusty and little bit less dirty

Hope you all enjoy and keep them coming in.
