Break it Down
Posted by rockislandnut on Thursday, May 26, 2011 6:09 PM

On "National Geographic Channel" tonight at 9 through 10 PM Central Daylight time the one hour show "Break It Down" will be about "Rebuilding a 50 year old locomotive".

Thought I'd pass the info.

Wadda ya mean I'm old ? Just because I remember gasoline at 9 cents a gallon and those big coal burning steamers.

Cool!

As we're in the process of doing exactly that at the Valley Railroad, I'll be sure to tune in!

Rebuilding a 50 year old locomotive?

That is weird.  Unless that is an old program, it would mean that the locomotive was built in 1961.  That would seem to rule out steam locomotives.  So, what kind of diesel was it?

It was a GP9. It was being broken down and rebuilt as a GenSet locomotive.

The Genset they made looked really sharp.  I would not mind having one of them go with my CSX genset
