BLI Y6B's double-heading video
Posted by rcgrabbag on Friday, May 13, 2011 6:58 PM

Slogging a 100+ car coal drag over the mountains at the Logan Model Railroad club in Souderton, PA. I'm getting acclimated to this club's layout after joining the club a few months ago. The coal drag is a crowd favorite at the club's holiday open house. I figured I'd try double heading my Y6B's. They are not consisted, so I'm matching them with a dual throttle controller (WiThrottle smartphone app).

Nice video!  Love the BLI Y's.  These must be the latest issue because the fans sound the same as the one in my Hybrid Q2.

I all so love my Y6 b, mine is the PCM version. At my LHS Christmas party I pulled 70 coal cars up 1.5 % grades.

Great video.

You should try a single Y6B with a few less cars.

I could've done less cars, but the temptation was too great!

Super video! Thanks for sharing. Looks like the right amount of cars for double headed Y-6bs to me. Hey...if you got the cars and the layout to run a long train  then go for it!

rcgrabbag maybe my eyes are deceiving me but it looks like at 11:47 into the video ole "Murphy" was messing with one of your coal cars back axle. Check this out:

I ran this over about five times and it does look like the car itself is riding high on the end where the arrows are at and the other end is lower then the car in front suggesting a derail shortly.

Anyone else spot this? If not my eyes need checked anyway. Big Smile

Other than possibly ole Murphy butting in I thought the video was great. Loved those Y6B's. Yes

Wadda ya mean I'm old ? Just because I remember gasoline at 9 cents a gallon and those big coal burning steamers.

If you watch it when it comes into view at 11:28 it's already riding high.

Wow, good catch! We'll have to put that car in shop and see what's up. Or, maybe it was on the verge of derailing.

Looking at it again more closely, it looks like the cars are not coupled correctly - like the couplers are bound together, but not in the right way. I'll have to go back and check next time I'm at the club.
