Jeff, What are the chances of bringing in another trailer to expand your room?  Additional space would make it much easier for you to get around in there.  >>BUT<< also that much more to keep clean.

Slim to none and Slim just left town.

Good Afternoon Folks,

my cold has the grips on me - right in time for Spring to arrive (no Barry, not your cat again).

A chooo!

Flo - a hot team with a few drops out of that bottle, please.

Did some finishing touches on my rail pass, which now looks like this:

The easiest way of exchanging those passed would be electronically, but I´d say this is rather impersonal. I can print my pass on photographic paper, which makes it look and feel like a real pass, and then mail it out to you folks. I´d suggest to use the PM function to exchange our clear names and addresses - those of you who are interested in exchanging a pass. How about it?

I had my father get me another quart of 'Pine Forest' paint. About $12 a can. That's what I usually put down for the base color of the grassy areas, then sprinkle the blended turf on top of it. Being they're close in color it doesn't take much turf to cover it. I didn't have any of this paint yesterday when I did the extension so I had to use a 'Mallard' green that I had laying around. It's not quite as dark and takes a bit more turf to cover it but the extension was a small area. I still have half of the main layout area ahead. Don't think I'll get it done today as my ankle is shouting obscenities at me for all the activity of the last couple of days.

Good Afternoon,

Lazy morning here. It is drizzling outside now and 5-10mm of rain are expected today. Not good news as we don't need more precipitation to add to the flood worries. About half of the snow has melted so there is only about 1-2 feet left in the back yard. We'll be lucky to see it gone by April.

Have been reading Model Railroad News that I picked up at the book store yesterday. I like that mag and find it very informative about new products.

Rob, you sure have made a lot of progress on your N scale layout! I see you are using Unitrack which sure speeds up the process. I originally planned to use it on my N layout but have decided to try code 55 flex. Haven't decided on ME or Atlas. I have samples of turnouts from each and will go over them soon. I need to finalize the track plan but I'm getting close. I decided to go DCC and will start converting my locos as I bought the first decoder. Will be interesting to see how I make out. Those locos sure are small!

Have a good aftenoon,

CN Charlie

Dr Pepper please.

Just stopped in before heading to Lincoln for supper. I knew last night would not count so it's the Bonanza in Lincoln. Haven't been there in a while.

BUT! More important. After viewing Rob and Jeff's updates, I decided to break out the paint and do the same as Jeff. Keep in mind it's all far from done or even close. And sorry for the focus issues. Still have trouble with that from time to time. Screen on the camera is still to small for me to tell until I get it on the cornputer screen. Then...it's too late.

Here's a picture of Gold Creek from afar.

Here's a bit closer with the Fire dept and the Hardware store on the lower and the Post Office/General Store/Bar in th upper left. (small built is the potties. His and hers)

Gold Creek, the south end, with the Bed and Breakfast in the upper.

Here's a picture of the tourist trap town.

Like I said, all pictures should be labelled "so far" Lots left to do. Trees, finish the buildings, bring the buildings into the ground, add some more structures, details OH! the list goes on. But I did bring some color into the mix so that's good I suppose.

The tracks are behind Gold Creek and under the upper part. You'll have to Imagine, if you will, a completely walled in tunnel with ballasted and sceniced interior. That's not what it is or will be, but you can imagine it anyway.

Feeling pretty good on the progress made today so it's time to eat. Or so I think. I thought the lioness did the hunting for food and brought it back for the Lion. Apparently I have to accompany her to the kill. Oh well they have excellent fried chicken on the buffet.

Strong Italian roast coffee in a Sunny Southern mug, please.

***Lee, great haul.

***Todd, really nice progress pics there.Thumbs Up

Here are a couple pics of the population growth currently taking place in my wife's (HO) town of Sherman's Crossing, preceeding the circus parade.

PopulationIncrease

At some point in the future, I plan on changing the Drive In so the screen/player can be lowered/accessed under the table, instead of a lift out parking lot. Then I can remove those bushes and permanently gravel the whole lot. Would look much nicer that way. Also much roadwork left to finish, but that too will have to wait for another time. And then there is the signage along mainstreet which needs to be replaced, as per wife's orders.

That's all for now. Keep posting those pics, folks. Enjoying all of them.

Evening.

Well got all the laundry done.

Dishwasher is finishing its job.

Dinner will be pork chops and flavored rice with a nice salad to round things out. We have been getting into the spring fling by getting the ready-made salad bags and eating salad over heated canned or frozen veggies.

I think this week I will buy the supplies for a "bloodclot" also known as a BCLOT. It's a BLT with Onion and cheese on it .

Have a great evening y'all.

Hi everyone,

I would like a  meat loaf dinner with mashed potatoes and peas. A nice cup of coffee would be great also.

Rob- your wife's layout looks interesting, although I don't envy you working on 2 layouts.

LSWrr- it looks like you did very well at your trainshow. I would love to get  some PRR stock cars, but I made a promise to myself no new stuff until I am done with my layout. I do have the new BLI light 2-8-2 on preorder that should be here next month. I have some major mods to make to it to make it prototypical  for the PRR.

TMarsh-Your layout looks like it is going to be great when you get done. I really like seeing other peoples ideas on how to do things.

I laid 17 turnouts today on my layout. 18 more to go. I purchased some glue from the show yesterday with the name of Sinbad on it (German). This stuff is amazing. I had 2 turnouts that the tie's were broken on one rail at one end. I put 2 drops on the ties, pushed the rail into place, held for about 5 seconds and it was good as new. If anyone is interested I can provide a address. Just let me know (I am not associated with them).

My wife is not happy. My daughter (Kindergarden teacher) dumped a sewing project on her for 30 embroidered bandanas. Each one takes 15 minutes to make. And of course she needs them this week. We did get her sewing area put back together after a drywall project in the loft. We share the loft for her sewing and my trains.

I tried posting a picture of our skunks using Photobucket. No go. I don't know what the problem is but I just can't seem to get it. I should of been born a 100 years ago.

Well everyone take care.

Maybe you all can help. I read the photo posting instructions-again. I followed them- again. All I get is the address line in black. My wife also can not get a picture to post. The edit image and insert link tabs at the top of the posting page are greyed out and can not be used.  Any ideas?

Evenin' Folks!

Flo, I'll have the Roast Beast dinner special tonight along with a cup of decaf...

Curt, to post a photo here, simply go to your Photobucket page and just place your curser over the photo you want to put here at this site.  A menu will appear by the photo.  Put the curser on the tag that says [ img] (without the space in the tag....).  Left click on it and it will say "copied".  Come back to here and where you want the picture to be, just paste it in (on my Mac that is Open Apple (Command) v, and the link to the photo will appear.  It will look something like this : [ IMG]http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h259/slow_rr/SLOW_RR_II/BranchEngineHouseBelt17w.jpg[/IMG ]  (again without the spaces I put in it).  Therefore when I post the reply to the thread, it comes out with the photo...  Thus:

TaDa!  Simple really.

Hope you can get it to work for you.

Afternoon, Janie - I'll try again and see if I can visit a bit longer (with more productive results...). Yes, I'll have an order of cheesey fries with ketchup and a RBF, please. Thank you!

Garry, I saw about your sister in Alabama and her accident - that was a scare for the rest of you, I'm sure. Surprise  Praying for her healing (and for you & the rest of the family's tending to Mom's matters). Last time I lost my balance going downhill, it was at the back of our lot (there was construction of a church going on in the lot below us), and I had to have a few stitches near my right elbow. (Chasing after a volleyball that got away from us - quite a while back; I think I was in junior high about then...) You keep yourself safe while you're away (and after you get back, also). Angel

Curt, a belated Welcome to the Diner. Pet skunk, did I hear? (Hope Stevie & his cuzins are 'de-scented'...) Do they have any favorite foods? Skunkweed? Wink So long as they're not as adept as raccoons are about getting into stuff (like peanut butter jars, on a midnight snack run...).

Todd, so I take it you told Brenda "Oh, you shouldn't have!" (No, really, you SHOULDN'T have...Hmm when she gave you THOSE GiftGift? Wink I was thinking you were getting to go see Willie last night - was I wrong? Hope you had a great day (and evening), even if you had to put on your brand new jeans for Willie's concert. (Does he expect people to dress up for them?) Whistling

Hey, Todd - I like your layout photos! Bow What'd you use/how'd you do the ground/dirt in your tourist trap town? I like the looks of that. Yeah You've been making good progress as well as Jeff has. Thumbs Up

Oh, and Happy B-Day too, Todd!

Alvie, did I see that you were going to be playing dirty? Oh, that was playing IN the dirt. My bad! Smile, Wink & Grin Hope it was fun for you. Me, I have an ashen grey thumb (have killed various plants over the years - by neglect, usually).

Rob, as for positioning those people for your wife's layout, were you using that 'Hob-e-Tac' stuff that Woodland Scenics has? I like it for putting figures down that I might want to move again later on. And from what little of it that I've done, any excess cleans up fairly easily. My My 2 Cents, anyway. Saw your (HO) layout pics, and it'd be fun (though scary for the tourist train folks, perhaps) to have a train car go into a tunnel in the side of the volcano. (Heh, heh...Devil It does look like your layout will have some decent length runs, and that track that crosses over the other mainline should be fun for operations (in a crafty sort of way...) I do appreciate your posting those photos of your wife's layout - love all the stuff you've done there; can't wait (as I'm sure you can't) to see what you do with your own layout. Thumbs Up

TeenSteamFan - yep, I'd agree with the others about THAT postal carrier. (POLITELY...) Report the facts of what happened, how the package was found in your yard (and if it was marked 'FRAGILE', mention that too) and how you would hate for "that really expensive item" you're saving up to order, to be broken if it gets tossed into our front yard..." (don't tell them that it will be a decade before you can afford to actually order that brass BIgBoy, you only say you that you are 'thinking about ordering this expensive model locomotive and all...'). They have postal inspectors that can look into such things, and I'm sure your (soon hopefully to be former) postal carrier will NOT want them checking into what she did (Maybe there's a rural route opening in Alaska that she could be transferred to?)

Ulrich, I like your railpass there - excellent job on it (looks like one of those from when the RR's had them)! Bow Hope you got outside (bundled up a bit, if it was only 42 F) to enjoy some of that sun. That, or figure how to make your west-facing room in your place into a sunroom. Cool Hey, I'm as puzzled about the why/wherefore/whatever of 'modern dating' as you are. As a male, to me it looks like the women are pickier, or else they just hang around with their girlfriends (and THAT is about as much fun as back in junior high, when you wanted to ask ONE gal to dance, but just try to pry her loose from her pack of (girl)friends). I have a fairly good idea of the characteristics of a woman I would likely match up well with, but finding such a woman who is single (all together now : Whistling"All the good ones are already taken"...Whistling ) - THAT is another matter! Okay, Janie, let's put that soapbox back in its corner for now... Will be sending you an email, Ulrich - which I guess means I need to start on my rail pass, too. Wonder where I can track down some pics for a starting point?

DerJohn, that pink covered hopper is just aching for a heavy dose of Robby's weathering. (IMHO..) Thanks for the pics of your "roundhouse crew on break". Whistling Sent you back an email.

Ken - I hadn't seen what THAT kitchen floor looked like (after following your reports on its progress for a bit); looks good (and tell Tiffany that she looks fine - don't want her miffed with me...). OopsWink

Jeff, seeing your layout photos (and the description of your reduced space) reminded me - will you have the ball field/park in the new arrangement? It looks like your progress is continuing to go quickly for you.

Sounds like Lee and Curt did okay on the train show goodies. Thumbs Up It's been a while since I got to one of those. But I not long ago got wind from Walthers that they're going to have some specials on stuff I order through them (am I buying THAT much, or is it just that they want me to be doing that?). Of course, it's from selected manufacturers (and you know how Mr. Murphy messes(TM) with THAT. Oops

Johnboy, how long until you get spring weather up your way? June, or maybe early/mid May? You have certainly been getting your share and then some on the white stuff. Of course, CN Charlie and Barry aren't slouching in that department, either.

Well, about time to head on home and see if I can make that Jordan school bus get a bit closer to 'done'. Maybe tomorrow after w**k I'll have another progress photo to show (or maybe not yet)...

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Yes, the park will be in there. It drops into the middle of the west side of the main part of the layout and would be in the way right now. I still have to finish putting down turf on the west side then I'll start on the east side. It has the additional complication of the dropout section with the Shell station. This is the section in question.

Baked chicken with onions, please.

***Curt, love the skunk pics. They're cool little critters.

***Jeffrey, WOW, you've been busy. I really like the layout of that Shell station.

***Jim, I forget which glue it is, W.S. or other. Comes in a little plastic white & yellow bottle and is made for setting little people which can later be moved if desired. So it's the same stuff you mention, if not the same brand. BTW, I hadn't figured out where that crossover track is for or where it's going.Confused Just wanted to use it somewhere. Perhaps it can go to a small coal/water facility for steam locos? Or an old mine? I have no idea what to put there. Any thoughts?

***Ray, excellent work!

Hi All, Cloe just a cup of coffee please, the trucker blend, in a Canadian cup Thank You.

Well we put Our son on the plane back to Alaska, was realy good having him home just wish he could have stayed longer. His orders are in and he heads to Afghanistan April 28th, he is worried because his unit is full of fresh recruits and is short manned for this deployment, He says that Iraq was a "Walk in the park" compared to where he is headed now. After he deploys the Daughter In-law and Granddaughter will come home and stay until his deployment is over.

Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do so I will be at the booth in the back reading for a while.

P.S. There sure are some great looking photos of layouts being posted, realy need to get back to work on mine.

Evenin' folks!

Flo, just a decaf.  I'll be in the back booth relaxing and getting warmed up by the stove.

Ron, your son and all of you will be in my prayers for his safe deployment.  May he come home safe and sound!

Curt, your very welcome!  Glad I could help.  What a cute bunch of Black and White stripped kitties you have there.  They can make very nice pets.  A farm near where i was growing up had a family of (the not descented variety) living in his dairy barn for a while....  One day he put some milk out for the barn cats and while he was putting a milker on another cow, he happened to notice a big mamma skunk came right in and started drinking the milk with the rest of the cats....  She didn't seem to be afraid of him at all so he let her stay (he wasn't about to force the, ah, issue...).  She came back every morning and night.  After a few weeks, she arrived with 3 or 4 kittens as well.  They actually became very friendly and would come right over and want to be picked up.   Not sure what ultimately became of them all, but........

Last night I did a bit more detail on the lathe in the Engine House.  Painted some parts with clear gloss, added a "project" and some metal shavings.  A friend from the museum saw a couple photos of it and send me a " critique" of items to make it more efficient.  One was an Armstrong Tool holder.....  In HO, THAT ain't gonna happen.... Wink

Anyway, here is what she looks like at the moment:

Trace along your track plan with red and blue markers or pencils. If you have the loops wired so that the outside rail of each loop is blue you'll have a dead short at the turnout into the siding as the red and blue rails will connect. If however the loops are wired so the outside rail of the left loop is blue and the inside rail of the right loop is blue you should OK unless I'm missing something.

Good Evening ,

Spent most of the day reviewing some of the 15 hours of video we shot on our Africa trip. Nothing like video for bringing it all  back especially when there is a lot of action as you get with wildlife.

Rob, do you mean the control of the turnouts? If so I use the little converter that Kato sells that snaps onto the sides of the controllers. It converts AC to DC and I power it with a wall wart. Is that what you mean?  That is the power supply for the turnout motors. I have one converter powering 6 turnouts as they all connect together. I'm using HO Kato track but the controllers are the same for N.

Todd, nice work on the layout. Looks like it will be a fun one.

Well time to get ready for work tomorrow. At least it isn't freezing cold when we get up now, only just below freezing. I guess Jeff wouldn't agree.

Good evening folks!

Charlie, that trip to Africa sounds like it had been amazing. I've been to Animal Kingdom, but I can only imagine how intense the real thing had to have been.

For the first time in many years, I dropped by the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum and it's neighbor the Strasburg Railroad, definitely should have not gone so long between trips! (seriously I don't think I've been there since 2004!) Now I'm an N&W guy first and foremost and much to my delight N&W 475 had been working the excursion trains that day so I got to see and hear an N&W steamer in the middle of Dutch country :) I took some photos (will post eventually) after spending I think 4-hours at the museum and tourist railroad site. A serious highlight included talking a museum staff member into letting me go into the E44 on display where we found a most unusual book of "manifold recipes" which incl. pizza and, we got a chuckle over this, burritos! Having the cab opened invited numerous other museum guests as we all hung out inside and chatted it up, particularly after checking out the cookbook. No, we did not sample anything from it.

Good evening. Nothing for me thanks. Just stopped in to see what was going on.

Ray- Yessir Trigger was there. Of course you know that the only part left that is original is the famous soundboard. Maybe the pickup. That has not been mentioned. The rest has been replaced over the years. Had to. C.F. Martin never intended for that guitar to be played like Willie plays it. Waylon Jennings once commented, laughing, that Willie has to bend the strings like he does because the guitar is so worn out cannot stay in tune any other way. I’m not that familiar with nylon string guitars, but seeing closeup photos it appears the low E, A and D string are steel and the G,B and high E are nylon. I say that because the, what appear to me to be, steel strings are shiny and have ball ends. The other three are tied as I expect them to be. _ Metal shavings? Oh now you're just showing off. Smile, Wink & Grin

Rob- I see you posted more great shots!!

Curt- You are only the second person I’ve known to have skunks as a pet. I hear they make good ones though. I’ll take your word for it. Around here, skunks get avoided. Say, are you sure Stevie isn’t a badger cabbaging on a good home?

Jeff- Ah, I see you had the deluxe model dishwasher. The two sister model. Laugh

Jim- Yes I wore the jeans, the shirt is still on the arm of the chair where she gave them to me. They feel ok, a bit poochy but ok. _ Actually the ground for the tourist trap town is just leftover unwanted bargain Walmart mistake oops paint as Jeff suggested a while ago on the OSB so far. It’s not the exact color I wanted but it was close enough to use as a base under ground cover. I haven’t applied the dirt yet. For that, I will use good old ground up powdered clay and just a light touch of grass and weeds here and there.

Well, since Ken beat me to the smell teaser ( I too know they have been disarmed….or so I assume) guess I’ll just turn in.

Chamomile tea, please.

***Jeffrey, thanks for the easy to follow diagram. Makes sense to me!

***C.N.Charlie, already got the switch control thing figured out. On that topic though, sure hope all of mine work when the time comes. One of the wife's turned into a manual switch...argh!

***Todd, thanks!

Just kicking back tonight with the receiver cranked up a bit. What? Someone say something? Well, have a good night y'all.
