 A job well done, Tom!

Especially in the olden days (of not all that long ago), when you guys sometimes had to spend quite a bit of time cleaning up after various profanity-laced posting raids by Al Mayo.

Over the years you (and your fellow deputized user moderators) have also done a credible balancing act between keeping discussions reasonably free and keeping them reasonably civilized.

Some will no doubt feel you have been too strict, other that you haven't been strict enough - but on average, I suspect most of us feel that you have mostly gotten it about right.

 Thank you for your service.

Grin,
Stein

First off, I want to thank everyone for the kind words and sentiments. Embarrassed  Although it has been both a challenge and work at times, it has also been a privilege to serve in the capacity of a user-moderator on the forums.

I would also like to thank you all for your patience with me as I continued to learn the position.  I know I didn't get it right all the time but I did try to do my utmost best when dealing with things.

Most things were B&W and straightforward to deal with.  However, there were a few things that fell into "gray" areas.  These were the tough calls that required either some further clarification or decisions based on experience and past history.  And it was these decisions that help hone and shape the skills of a moderator.

Unfortunately, there are inevitable growing pains for both parties in the "learning" process.  And a few times I had to eat crow and admit that I had made a poor choice.  It's quite a balancing act to be responsible for and watch over the forum community as a moderator AND be a comfortable part of that community as a user - without drawing attention to your position as the former.

I will continue to hang around and be a part of the forum community but not to the frequency and extent that I was as a user-mod.  Thank you again for the support and encouragement and for making this forum a terrific resource and place to be involved in.

Not everyone has warm, fuzzy feelings about the "job" Tom did on these forums.  I for one thought he went beyond the powers he was given on more than one occasion, and unreasonable at that.

David B

Sigh  Well, David, I guess there goes my perfect track record that I so loudly proclaimed to have had in my earlier post above.   I never claimed to have pleased everyone by my actions; nor naively thought that I would ever do so.

Now that my reputation has been tarnished, I don't know what I'll do?  I guess I'll have to resign and face the public scrutiny and humiliation of my failings.  Falling asleep at nights is gonna be tough, too.  I may have to resort to crying.

Yep, so much for the love fest...Crying

Thanks for your years of service, Tom.  I, too, remember the "good old, bad old, days" when a certain character would lurk until the Kalmbach offices shut down on Friday evening, and then unleash his brand of nuisance posts.  That's when the volunteers rode in to town and straightened things out.

Now, it's safe for the wimmen and children to walk the streets again.  A moderator's job is never done, of course.  Kind of like a layout.
