Via Chicago Tribune.

No injuries were reported this morning in the derailment in Gurnee of a train carrying lumber, steel and railroad track rail, a spokesman for the railroad said.

The incident happened about 10:15 a.m. on a stretch of track between Grandville Avenue and Blanchard Road.

The train had 10 cars and was en route from Chicago to St. Paul, Minn., said Mark Davis, a Union Pacific Railroad spokesman.

No ambulances responded to the scene and there was no hazardous materials response, local officials said.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation, Davis said.

As of about noon, ComEd workers were on the scene turning off power to what police said were live wires in the area behind the building. A pile of 2x4s had spilled out of one train car and it appeared that another train car had run into the back of a nearby building, a food company facility at 1910 Swanson Ct.

Nobody was injured when 10 freight cars derailed Sunday morning in north suburban Gurnee.

Ten cars of a Union Pacific train from Chicago to St. Paul, Minn., derailed about 10:15 a.m. in Gurnee, Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis said.

The Gurnee Fire Department said the derailment happened near 1910 Swanson Court in the northern suburb. Fire crews remained on the scene about noon.

Five of the derailed cars were empty, three were carrying lumber, one was carrying steel and one was filled with track rail, Davis said.

No injuries were reported, Davis said.

Unconfirmed dispatch reports indicate the derailment happened near Little Lady Foods and may have downed electrical lines.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation and it was not known Saturday afternoon when the train would be moving again, Davis said.

Wadda ya mean I'm old ? Just because I remember gasoline at 9 cents a gallon and those big coal burning steamers.
