Gooooooooooooooooooooood *yawn* Afternoon. Burgers, many many burgers please 'n thank-you, with a bucket of Coke.

As for the sternly worded post-it note from the Postal N***, I'm not sure if she was warning me THAT I almost didn't get my envelope due to the sins of the sender or just what her point was in THAT little exercise. I don't really wanna go ask her/him/it, might get me onto some "list" or something... Mike says until the officials officially change policies, he will continue to ship-out in the manner approved by his local PO. With Herald King apparently going belly-up (again), I'll undoubtedly be scrounging through his supply again, and again, and again 'till I've cleaned him out.

TODD: I got the edited version of things...but maybe it was "ex-paramedic's intuition" but I kinda had a theory all along it was some kind of gyno-ecological situmacation. Just glad she's OK.

DER JOHN: Glad you survived your wild ride...quite the sinking feeling when THAT happens!!!

ULRICH: Sooooooooooooooooooooo things are looking promising with THAT business proposal??

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I temporarily lost the little toolbar THAT lets a guy put things in BOLD, use the little cartoon thingies, etc. Then, the whole post posted as one long paragraph... Now, in "edit" mode, all is well????? Brackin-frackin-frickin-frack computers!!!!

Think I'll crawl into a corner booth and see about tackling the writing I have to do today for THAT Editor, to turn in tomorrow morning.

As Bama says: "Later Taters!"

G´ Evening Folks,

I am dead tired - spend the entire day with the TV people to develop an introductory letter and a flyer for a customer mailing - one of the kind you normally throw away unopened. Now that´s exactly what we intend to avoid, so it must be different. Be different or die is the motto.

Janie, hot chocolate for me, please.

I am too tired to follow up on the posts - will do that after I had a rest.

CUL Folks!

G- Well noted and understoodZip it!. Actually no I was not running a test. I realize some if not most are not interested in all of my babblings and I do not expect you guys to read all that I post. But just in case some are interested or bored, I give them something to readLaugh. Seriously though, I responded to Ken's comment when I was pretty tired and worn out last night from the weeks events. Though I had complete understanding of what I was posting, as you can tell by the way I wrote it, I must admit I didn't think it out completelyEmbarrassed. That is not totally unusual for me, but thinking a bit clearer this morning. You are right. I should have been a bit more..... vague. Sorry if I ruined your breakfast.

I shall edit that post to spare those who have not read it yet. For those who have, I apologize.

Der- That is a good point you brought up I didn't think about (about seeing her items). However, I do believe it would not bring anything but a smile to see someone getting use out of it. Besides, it might even bring a chuckle as I hear Mom saying, "See? I told you someone would want that. I'm glad you didn't throw it away."

No layout work this morning. Maybe later? Not likely but possible. I have some 1/4 inch OSB I can use and a wee bit of 2" foam yet. Something may get done if not tonight, then maybe tomorrwo depending on what that brings.

Been taking the Christmas tree down and the other decorations in addition to the "how are you doing" phone calls. Now I have to get ready to meet my niece at Mom's apartment.

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Todd: Yup, we were driving well below our normal speed for that stretch of road. Thanks for your thoughts.

Post Office, in my opinion, is like the landline phone companies. They have been operating as the only game in town for so long, they seem, to think they still control it all.
….Remember Lily Tomlin? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9e3dTOJi0o
The home computer is almost in danger of being replaced right now with the cell phone for crying out loud. Who would have thought that?
…Saw  on TV some of the offerings at the Tech show in Vegas this week. Seriously thinking that our next TV will be the main screen for a Tablet Device of some kind for Kris – and we’ll watch TV we want on that. Then it’s goodbye Bell TV satellite service at $72 per month. The amount we watch, that works out to a pretty hefty hourly rate, about $0.50 or more! The current monthly charge morphed into payments for the TV and Tablet would be time limited, unlike the present situation. Kris says that since we aren’t terribly familiar with these technologies, there may be problems we don’t know about….but it’s worth a thought or three.Geeked BTW, check your PMs.

JR:

Der - that latest is not a shopped pic. You've found a shot of the famous NYC rocket powered RDC. This was an experiment by the CEO (Perlman I think) to see if they could set a speed record on rails.
…Yes, I knew the jet train was for real – I’ve had that photo lurking in a "My Documents" Folder for years now. Didn’t know about the ballast – interesting!
One of the guys at the museum was an electrical engineer for the Central at the time and still chuckles about the whole boondogle.
…incredibly small world, isn’t it?

Ken: Congrats on the Store Manager thing. I’ve been on Draw, and yes, found it scary – but THAT was the highest earning period of my sales career! Using an inflation calculator, the following values are generated for 2010 dollars from a 1969 base

$58,500.00 using the Consumer Price Index $47,500.00 using the GDP deflator $60,700.00 using the value of consumer bundle $60,800.00 using the unskilled wage $70,300.00 using the Production Worker Compensation $94,600.00 using the nominal GDP per capita $143,000.00 using the relative share of GDP
I know which one I’d like!!! Laugh
Think it maybe the start of another bladder (spell check) infection. The store I was at did not have a drinking fountain so I drank Diet Dew all day. Today I am taking a gallon of water and will leave it in the car.
Real Cranberry juice (not coloured, flavoured water) could help.

Looks like it’s lunch time already.  Hope to get a decoder installed this pm. TTFN

Good Morning! Coffee and biscuits and gravy please. Me? Feeling pretty good I must say. Thank you.

It’s cold out there and I don’t want to leave the house. I can work on the RR. BUT, I must go to Mom’s apartment with my niece to let her rummage through some stuff. Then probably throw a few sacks of papers and useless trash away. Nothing useful. Things like old phone books so she could look up people who either died or moved so she could see what their old phone number was. (don’t ask. I did many times and still don’t understand why) After my Aunt goes through some things next week or the week after, then it will be trips to the Goodwill. I think her coats, which are old but in like new condition. Really. Not salesman like new, but buyer like new, to that Burlington coats for people without coats thing. We have one of those places in Springfield.

By the way, not asking for legal advice, and I know each state may be different, but does anyone know if there is something that the state or the court has to do before I can get rid of Mom’s things? Or I should say begin executing my duties as the executor. Each day that passes adds to her expenses of storing the stuff in essentially a $700 a month storage locker plus utilities. I’ll find out Monday when I file the will at the courthouse, but just curious. Mom didn’t for Dad, but the circumstances were different. Maybe.

Ken- LaughSorry. I should have just said “Girl stuff we don’t want to know”Whistling Laugh

Welp, food’s here. Best get eatin and then get going. Oh Flo, could I get a side of bacon please? The brown sugar kind. Thanks.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

Good morning. It's 43° and sunny. The high will be 58° and it will be mostly cloudy. There's rain in the forecast for tomorrow.

Well I found the reason for my eye sensitivity yesterday as I woke up this with a case of pinkeye. It's uncomfortable but it'll go away in a couple of days. In the meantime I'll have the dark glasses on.Cool

Evening all.

Ended up getting out of school at 12 today because of the snow, and we didn't have our game. We decided to go to Outback for dinner, but somehow, it seems like the rest of the afternoon/evening flew away!

I'm posting a photo and video of my layout progress in WPF now.

I don't have time to read posts, but I'll try to tomorrow. Prayers for all in need.

Evening All,

Time to wander off to get some sleep. Got the new sheet rock scuffed up, taped and the first layer of mud on the walls of the future train room. Try to get some more done tomorrow if i can sneak out of the shop early. Depends on interuptions more than anything.

Der - that latest is not a shopped pic. You've found a shot of the famous NYC rocket powered RDC. This was an experiment by the CEO (Perlman I think) to see if they could set a speed record on rails. The thing actually ran up on the water level line I believe but just once. It used an incredible amount of fuel for the little distance it ran and blew so much ballast around that the project got shelved. Supposedly the flying ballast and other debris did an incredible amount of damage to equipment adjacent to the tracks, One of the guys at the museum was an electrical engineer for the Central at the time and still chuckles about the whole boondogle. Pretty sure the record it set was eclipsed by the Turbo Train south of Philly on the northeast corridor in 1968. Also pretty sure the record still stands as the fastest train ever in the U.S.

Good evening.

Had a little snack, gave the dog a little scratch, (she's sad. Misses Grandma. Still looks in her room for her and walks out with her head down. Brings a tear sometimes.) watched a little TV, had a little nap. Now it’s time for bed.

Main reason no confrontation at the funeral, Sister didn’t show.

Ken- Glad work went well and things are looking up. I know about draws. They would make me nervous, but I’ve never worked on a draw. You seem very confident about it and that’s what it takes to make them work. You should do ok. Of course, you already know thatSmile, Wink & Grin. I don’t believe I expanded on the daughters……injury.  (edited for everyones sake) I guess. Honestly, I didn’t ask too many details. Some discussions best left for MothersIndifferent Embarrassed.  . She is doing very well.

John- Super glad to hear you and Kris are ok. I’m sure you were driving sensible and that proves that these things can happen even if cautious. Sometimes those things are unavoidable, but if the driver is cautious the damage is usually lessened. Sometimes. Angel

Post Office, in my opinion, is like the landline phone companies. They have been operating as the only game in town for so long, they seem, to think they still control it all. And there are certain applications in which they do. But soon, those too will be gone. If they don’t start acting now it will be too late. This day and age, reacting is too late. These companies have many employees that they have to pay I understand, but they are going to have to really get serious and make some changes in their offerings and attitudes if they are going to survive the next 10 or 20 years. If that long. Things are changing fast. The home computer is almost in danger of being replaced right now with the cell phone for crying out loud. Who would have thought that? I sure wouldn’t’ve. (that got a squiggly line. I guess you can say it, but not suppose to write it.)

Welp tired again.

Prayers for those in need.

Good evening all.  Just a RBF for me, wife fixed breakfast for supper, so I'm stuffed!  I've got to be at w*rk first thing tomorrow morning, so I'm about to turn off for bed and get some sleep.  Just found out that our bathroom power supply is non-functional.  No breakers tripped, so who knows.  Will fight the issue tomorrow after w*rk and Heather's birthday party.  Today is actually her birthday, but we're having the party tomorrow so that people won't have to worry with getting off form w*rk or anything like that.  Going to be a swim party, so fun should be had by all.  Tomorrow also starts the beginnig of what might be a pretty nasty weather event for us.  Seems to be that the talk is rain/snow/ice/sleet mix starting as early as saturday night and ending sometime monday......glad all I have is church on sunday and then I can come home and get out of the crud.  Although admittedly church might get cancelled.......

Welp, guess that's about it from my neck of the woods.

Good evening folks: A mix of snow and rain last night and all this weekend. The beloved DOH did not plough our roads - not even the Highway #7 which is a trunk road - and driving was a pain. Literally for us, as it turned out because on our way home from the Harbour I hit a greasy patch and put us in the ditch on the other side of the road facing out! The rear end hit the far side of the ditch with a fair old smack - so we were a bit concerned about damage.  Managed to get out without much trouble, and a neighbour came by in a few minutes. They took us part way home to another neighbour where we could phone Kris' mom and then CAA and wait in comfort.  The tow (lift) truck came within ½ hour, took us home where Kris started in on her mom's lunch while I went back in the tow truck to the car. It came out of the ditch with no problem, I drove it a short way and nothing seemed dysfunctional, so after signing the papers I came on home.  I'll take it in to the Esso next week and have it checked over. I thought at the very least the muffler would be toast.  I want the rear axles (stub, I understand) checked - the passenger side rear wheel hit the bottom of the ditch - driver's side didn't.  No body damage I've detected. Really blessed there, as this shore is rocks and stumps, but where it happened the ditch is mud and moss Angel  Some stiffness and aching shoulders - but an extra strength "body and muscle" or some such pain killer took care of most of that. We'll see in the morning. We are truly grateful for guardian angels!Angel

Joe: Thanks for the photo-posting tip Thumbs Up

Robby:  Looking forward to seeing your T-SP  Your work deserves this kind of publicityBow

Ulrich:

It is also a test whether I can cope with N scale ...
...if Jerry and I can, I'm pretty sure you'll take to it like "eine Ente zu Wasser"! Geeked  I'm curious about the couplers that loco might have, standard knuckle type, or some fiendish oriental cleverness?  The front one looks standard, with a cut lever above, and the bottom step of the engineer's side set below it, but I couldn't be sure. No "trip pin" in any case. Smile, Wink & Grin

Todd: Good to hear things well at your mother's funeral and following. Angel Not a time or place to have a war.

DerJohn and Garry- That picture is real. I've seen it before on this forum I believe. It is a display at some museum I think, commemorating an actual happening ...in.....France? I believe? Somewhere though that happened and the picture you show is a museum display or a commemoration.
Interesting - let's see, if it is "staged" does that make it a model (1:1 Scale)? - I wonder what they use for the smoke effect generator.Clown

Chris: One would think that the Post Office would be wooing rather than fighting customers! Must be blind to the writting on the wall - Oh, wait, THAT's right they're bureaucrats, I forgot.Mischief

Once more it's bed time. Good night all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of Healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.Angel

Evening Folks

Flo, Tuna Salad and a Beer please.

Boy I am tired, was up at 4:30 AM and it is now 8:55 PM. Normally I would have been a sleep by now.

Things went well today a work, have to unlearn a few things but should be simple. They have hired 4 people so far and have two new stores opening February 1st. Till then I will be only working 3 days a week. I will be paid $240.00 for the three days. With the way ILL unemployment works I will still get around $300 a week so total will be about $540.00.

I found out I will not be working in Edwardsville IL and was just a little disappointed. But on the bright side I will be the store manager in the Bellville IL store and it is only 16.5 miles so gas still will not be that bad. Drive will be 32 minutes versus 15 but again I can still deal with that.

I was just a tad disappointed when I found out that he base was a draw against commission. If anyone wants to know how a draw works I will explain latter. But draw is $500 so still better base than at Mattress Giant and Ashely.

Commission is a straight 7% percent across the board. Pro's and cons to this rate but still doable. In a nut shell I have to sell $28,571.14 a month working 20 days to cover the $2000.00 monthly base. So I have to have above $28,571.14 to make any extra commission. Could be very easy, at Mattress Giant I averaged around $2200.00 a day. Plus I will get the prime hours.

Ulrich Did you see my plan I posted about the fold up layout? Far as the N Scale engine, could someone in the U S get it for the same prices? That sure seemed like a low prices!

Todd I am glad things went well for you today. On your daughter, I must have missed what was wrong with her? I saw where you wife called, blooded badges and running to the hospital must must have missed why.

Galaxy I need to reread your post. I am wiped out right now. I may PM you about a few things.

Time to Zzz

Evenin' folks!

Flo just a decaf for me right now...  I'll go sit in the back booth by the stove.

I am never going to get this house clean for tomorrow..... I am completely exhausted!  The 2 granddaughters were here for a little over an hour while their dad got his teeth cleaned.  They helped Grandpa dust some furniture.  Actually Olivia did a good job...  Little Emily helped to by playing with the items I took off the shelves we were dusting. Big Smile  They tired of THAT "game" after about 15 minutes so we found and got out Thomas and company.  Olivia and I put together track, and Emily took it back apart but did manage to push Thomas over some bits of track still hooked together.  Only tough spot was when Emily (1 year old) decided she wanted Lady which Olivia was playing with at the time and grabbed it from her....  Both of them almost had a time out on the frackus that developed at THAT point...  So we played chase each other around the house for a while then found some paper and pencils (Olivia's suggestion) and Grandpa could sit down to rest for a while and watch......

The entire rest of today I have been cleaning the pig pen I live in.  Oh, I did have to run to the store for some last minute items as well.  But......  Man am I wiped out!  Think I should sleep well tonight.

Well, Chris, at least you got the package.......  Back when I was in business I used to have to take 50 or more packages of CDs down to the PO and stand in line.  Most of the ladies that work the window have always been great, but one day I got one who insisted I could only mail 4 packages at a time from the window with the scale and printed out postage!  So I had her weigh one of the packages, come up with the closest postage she could and occupied one of the tables for about an hour and stuck stamps all over it.  next time I had a bunch to mail I mentioned it to one of the other ladies at the window.  She said, "Oh..... Her.....  She got put in the back room sorting after a few days out here!"

J.R. they wouldn't deliver the mail to your mailbox because your dogs barked???  Good thing they don't know that my cats Meow, or they would probably make me put my mailbox out by the street.....  Oh, wait, that's where it is..... Whistling

Good Evening All,

Sounds like Chris is lucky to get his mail after all that. Good job you didn't get designated a "hazardous delivery". So did postmaster Einstein give any hint how to insure the contents in the future should you order from NCS again? Great googly moogly! The local P.O. won't deliver packages to the shop because we have dogs here that bark. Had to put up a mailbox out on the road because they didn't want to drive into our lot with the mail and put it in the mailbox there. Alternatives were to get a P.O. box or have all our mail returned to sender. And they wonder why mail service isn't used as much any more.

Interesting ride home from the shop. We've had 7" or so of snow and the roads were all jammed with stranded cars. The Interstate (84) was dead stop over an hour and a half so we went the back way. The trusty Focus had no issues but we kept catching up with people crawling at less than 10mph. It does snow here - why can't people understand they need snow tires in winter? Trip home took over an hour and normally the 10 miles is done in 15min. Ah well.

Todd - glad the service and all went smoothly.

Catch y'all later.   J.R.

Who's in charge of the post office there? Mr Tu-Tight-Ina-Crotch? I have never had that problem.

Laugh

Unless they've hired another micro-managing busy body, THAT would be: Miss, Mrs., or Ms. Tu-Tight-Ina-Crotch... We know her as "Postman Pat." But the charming little Postman on TV is far friendlier...and she is far more manly!

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Evening, pot of coffee please...thanks.

It's time for "Adventures with the Post Office."

I ordered a bunch of Herald King decals from Northern Central Supply...a great source and fantastic dealer. They arrived today, well-packed, in an envelope with the standard USPS "insured" sticker on it. But, there was something else stuck on it as well: a post-it note from our local Postal N***. It said "Incorrect procedure for insured mail but delivery was made. Postmaster."

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot???

So, I e-mail Mike Caum at Northern about this. He says they aren't insuring a letter, but the contents. His PO was contacted by the N***. His PO and the N*** went around and around on the issue before "Postman Pat" (the local N***) hung up on them! Mike says he's mailed-out decals this way for years, and my local busy-body bureaucrat was the FIRST to ever squawk about it.

USPS, gotta love 'em...Whistling

Here's hoping everybody had a good day...and an even better evening.

Went by the bank to make a deposit then to the New Llano post office to mail off an EZ-Command system I finally got sold off. I still have one EZ-Command system left. I'm holding on to it as a backup DCC system in the event my Zephyr ever fails. Also went to Wal-Mart to get so additional groceries then back home. Other than my day has been quite uneventful.

Now I have to let my eyes rest for a while. They are a mite sensitive to light and I've been out driving in the bright sunshine, so to say tyhey ache a bit is somewhat of an understatement.

Coffee refill, please.

Went ahead and swapped batteries. The new one has the higher amps and fits the tray perfectly. Couldn't find my bat cleaner, so used a wire brush for shotgun barrels. NAPA fella says the difference is between those made in Canada & the USA.(?) And even though the battery stickers read identical, he said in the book it shows one bat with higher amps. Drove it around the 4 mile loop. Car has been sitting for at least a few months now. With gas prices inching up, time to start utilizing it's better gas mileage.

Hope to have the energy to do some work on the wife's layout tonight. Lots & lots of little stuff to do.

Cheers! Rob

Galaxy congratulations on the procurement of a Mikado!

teen steam fan

Galaxy-Hope the Mike runs good.

Oh thank you and yes she does, she does! She may not be a perfect B&O model, but she will be relettered for such. I have only test run on the oval under the xmas tree layout so I don't know yet how the pilot wil lhandle switches..she looks a little light weighted there. {first I ahve to re-find and clean teh layout}  I Am Surprised Bachmann Spectrum would produce an SY Mikado taht could be soldat a buck and a quarter- under the $300-$400 range otehr mikes-including Bachmann's own sound DCC version ahve gone for.

Happy Twelfth Night everyone!

My wife bought a new battery for her 2000 Camry. It has 525 CCA. The dead one she has in there reads 550. From what I find online, looks like standard equipment calls for a battery with 582. Should she return it or will that 525 suffice?

As others have said, i would go for the max rated CCA batery the car should have, even in temperate climates. The usual reason they want to sell you a lower CCA battery is they don't have teh proper one in stock, so they tell you a "lesser will do" ....and don't always "do" when you count on it.

cudaken

Wife bought me some over the counter medication for acid reflux yesterday and it sure helped! I was able to sleep last night laying down all night, first time in a while.

Galaxy Sorry I have got on your nerves with me posting about what has gone wrong in my life the last few months. Hopefully I will start having some smooth sailing now and won't have anything to complain about. Far as Charter, when it works I am fine with them. But last 3 months they have been out 2 to 3 times a month every month. I have all so had internet problems, abut 5 day or so I could not get on line. Far as changing company's if they don't get things straight and I have the funds I may change.

Prilosec OTC sure works wonders. I used to take it when it was a script, now I take Nexium script, one step beyond Prilosec. The OTCs work well at really controlling acid as you found out hope you continue to find relief.

You didn't ge on my nerves about about the job BUT: you had jsut previosuly posted something to the effect of "well. I see how that job went, I guess I know I didn't get it" {my statement of pissing and moaning} and then-see you didn't wait long enough- you GOT THE JOB! SO Hoo Ray!, But sometimes you just gotta be a little patient...

2nd thing is- Yeah, the CHARTER SUCKS thing...that is getting overbearing. so drop their phone service and get a regualar land line again THAT WORKS-even during cable or power outages {unless someone hit a pole} and quit griping. I COULD have the cable phone option, I COULD drop the land line as I have a Cell phone {for ememrgencies ONLY- only 5 hours of service a year} BUT I STILL have my landline and WON't do without it. someone can {almost} ALWAYS get ahold of me then! I lived through a Hurricane once ans had limited landline service while power was out {until phome companies batteries backup began to dwindle a week later}/ SO I own;t do without basic regular landline. WHen My cable TV or CAble internet goes out I call and get a credit for the outage- now maybe Time WArner Cable is different...but we got it now... CHARTER SUCKS CABOOSE, MOOSE MEAT AND GUNPOWDER! Oh, BTW if your wife get s Medicaid with her SSI. you shoudl get a "life line" regualr discounted cheap land line, desinged to get those in medical need in touch with whom they need to in emergency. My landline costs me about $24 a month basic service and long distance is free to use, but you pay by the minute for using it}.

Robby P.

I did get a email last night, and I will have one of my "weathered" train cars in a upcoming Track Side Photo.    Don't know what month, or the picture.   I was very excited about the email last night thou.   I will keep y'all informed.

Sir Madog

Well, I DID it - I ordered that loco directly in Japan. I have no confirmation yet, just that they have received my order.

Congrats Ulrich!  feels good to order/get a new loco doesn't it! I love my new Mikado! Who Hoo!

WELL! I posted a lot of copy/paste!

The plow went by MOH will be home soon and have to shovel. I tried to get in touch with the elder services snow shovelling program to find out if they do disabled people too, but have nto heard back, I think i call again. All they can tell me is NO as I do have a somewhat available able-bodied person WHEN not working.

SO I will leave you all to your boring OR exciting afternoons!
