Large bowl of the Diners best stew, please.

Sure hope TWhite's kidneys kick back in. They sometimes do. Sending healing thoughts his way.

Inlaws are back at the ALF. About wore us (mostly my wife) out. Don't think we'll do the sleep-over thing with them anymore. They hardly knew where they were half the time. What a fast decline to witness.

Spent about 30 minutes piddling in the train room tonight. Going to rest up now.

Packer

A number of reasons, among them being using the trucks to block traffic, the warning lights to alert oncoming drivers, having the proper equipment on hand, etc. Believe me, you don't want to keep running back and forth for tools or other equipment.

 Evening Folks.

Flo, Big Boy Sub, tender of chips and a Beer please.

Speaking of Beer, Where did it all go? Question On the way home I stopped at the local Shop and Save and I could swear I was in a super market in Russia! Beer shelf's was all most bare, and not a Case, 12 pack or a 6 pack of my beer left? Meat department, there could not have been more than 60 packages of meat left of the shelf's! In the bread section, maybe 80 items left? Parking lot was packed when I got there and I was surprised.

We have another winter storm waring for Monday night. Calling for 1 inch of ice and 8 inches of snow. After last week 12.5 inches of snow I guess people are not taking a chances.

Ulrich Boy that is a sweet looking engine! Far as losing the house, if anyone knows what I am going through I know it is you.

If I lose the house I blame the Bank Of Idiots of America. Not because they did not give me time! But because No one explained what was going on and what I needed to do! I am sure part of it was because they where over whelmed by the number of people that where in trouble. So they hired new people to handle the work load. I am guessing the training was lacking so the information they gave me (what little there was) was all so missing details I needed to know.

What sucks is I can afford the payments now. But, I need to poop $5000.00 plus in 60 days or less and there is still no grantee I will get the loan modified to take care of the $16,000.00 I am behind. I would not be that far behind if they had explained what Forbearance was! They lowered the Payment for $925.00 to $481.00 for 12 months. So ever month I made the $481.00 payment I got (-$444.00) in the hole!  That is $5328.00 which I need to poop now! Just does not seem right to me!

Work Front! Another good day! Had another $3200.00 in sales! Big Smile For the last 3 days I am at right around $8900.00 plus I got some more spiff money. If I figure out how to get paid for it, I have another $200.00 coming.

 See you all Monday.

I too am saddened by Tom's (california Tom's) situation. I really enjoyed his stories about the job, music, of course the layout and his passion for articulates (even though he did put a diesel on the Yuba's bridges)  and those beautiful Norwegian (IIRC) cats. I pray for his health to return quickly and maybe he will pop in again from time to time to keep us updated.

Gotta play with the dog. I promised and she knows it.

Hey all.  I feel a whole lot better than I did yesterday.  Just finished dinner (I grilled pork chops and corn on the cob outside whilst Amy fixed baked beans, tater salad, and mac and cheese), so I won't be eating anything this evening until a bit later.

I have a question involving LED's.  Plan on adding them to the front and rear headlights on my GP40-2, but I need a recommendation of brand, capabilities, etc.  I'm fairly certain that I will have to add a resistor in line with them and that's fine, but how big and mean of one should I add?

Well, guess that's about it for me, going to head over and see what else I can find.

Later taters!

Ahh, and it appears that I have TOP honors, go ahead y'all order up!

Hey guys

I'm just watching the pro bowl while I wait for some glue to dry. I've been working on some AHM 3-bay PS2 hoppers, giving them athearn trucks and body mounted Kadees. Haven't really done much else because I've been working a lot recently. Good thing I'll be able to use the extra income (hourly job) at the Atlanta WGH show Big Smile

Speaking of jobs; I'm thinking about trying to get a job at either the local radioshack or an auto parts place. 3 years of working a fast food joint is a bit much IMO.

Rob, depends on manufacturers of decoders and if you have a computer to do the CV stuff. I've managed to use my Zephyr to MU QSI sound/dcc locos to locos with Digitrax or NCE decoders. Don't have any with Loksound, Soundtraxx (I'm going with them for sound conversions though), and the only MRC equipped one I have has motor control curiosity of digitrax (kept the MRC board for sounds and lights, there is plenty of room in the F45 for that AND a second speaker)

David, some real RRs used the ALCO trucks under their EMD locos. Some GP30s and 35s had them. A few roads had GP7/9s with the AAR switcher truck. Speaking of which, If I can find an undec GP35, I might try modeling one of the ex-SLSF GP35 with AAR trucks and torpedo tubes.

Ulrich,  good to see you're able to do something MR related. Sucks about the train wreck.

Barry, fun stuff with the incindary car. Was it a Toyota or a Tempo?Whistling For the small neigborhood I tend to get a lot of that, but it seems to usually be something up with the much older neighbor ladies (some have to be pushing 80) or the guys across the street having the cops called on them.

Ken, Hope the stuff with the house works out.

For the firefighters: There is a small firehouse on a 4-lane highway on the way back from work. The other day, there was a car crash (I drove by it, after being stuck in gawking traffic) that wound up with the cars in the median; directly in front of the firehouse. I thought it was kind of odd that they had driven the firetrucks probably 100 feet (I could google map the area if one of you guys to see it) to the accident. Is it normal practice to drive them such a short distance? (then again, I give a girl I work with a hard time cause she won't walk the 300 feet to her house, but has her BF pick her up)

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

HI Everybody: Ocean is cold47degrees,rain is still here, no snow coldest it got is 38degrees. Time to work on RR going very slow OH late but HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Found out that my 4-8-8-4T will not go around 12in. curves very well so it sits in roundhouse with about 1/3 sticking out.. Finally settled on a name for RR "Sunset Beach Logging Co."  Thats where I live and the only logable trees are gone since the 1880's. Started to lay out the last of track for the waterfront, which is also the storage area for the logs. Now since I can't ruh the BIG engines I.m on a hunt for Climax's and the same ...I went to ST. Tomas for a while dads old vacation home.Very expensive for everything. Flew back to beach picked up car and drove home . Gas was almost as expensive here in states as down there 3.25 here 4.78 down there..WOT HAPPEN. Here at home its only 3.01.....

I will try to get pic's as soon so you'll be able to finally see what i'm talking about.

Prayers for all in need.      Thank You all for being here.....Chuck

Found this on another thread...

Not a good start to 2011 for me, either.  One week into January I contacted a violent Salmonella infection that dehydrated me and shut down my kidneys.   So now I get hooked up to a dialysis machine 3 days a week for God only knows how long until they decide to come back.  Which limits me not only in my teaching, but in my time for the hobby.

So the Yuba River Sub is in a state of suspended animation for the time being.  Too bad, too, I just got a complete set of the MTH "Daylight" cars, and haven't been able to get out to run them yet.  They're sure nice to look at, though.

Good evening Diners: We're not feeling like supper yet, despite it's time, so I'll finish off this, then go and see what there may be in the fridge.

Barry:

his car done blew up and was on fire in front of our home!!  ..
..Kris says, "...since we are thinking of buying a new car, ask him it was a Toyota!" Whistling.  That escape you posted of the mountain climber is mind boggling! I wonder what he finally landed on, moss? Heather? Bracken?
Got a hold of someone to cover for the other PSW...so here I sit...
Good! Yes

Jeff:

Other than that is was a snap.
...as in "easy" not "break" I hope! Smile, Wink & Grin

Todd:

My plan was in case I had to move it I could. Then just yesterday I thought, " gee. What are the chances of me moving to a place where this thing would fit?" But, you never know and it would be a lot easier to move if I ever had too.
...I didn't think about moving when I planned this present layout (planned in Spruce Grove before we moved from Alberta to Nova Scotia. When we have to move from this address we'll be downsizing, so any new layout will have to be just that, new.  Truth be told, I don't think I would want to continue with the present layout for all those (presumed and hoped for) years more.
(yaaaaawn) my comfy chair is calling me. Oh..., I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition. (I just may regret saying that )
   Every one regrets the SI!Devil

Ulrich: Great news that you are actively building! That was quick!

My prayers go out to the families of those who lost their lives and healing prayers to the injured!
Yes indeed - and the freight ran a faulty signal? Prayers for all the victim's families. Any word on the rest of the freight crew?Angel  So the modules can be built on right side up, or upside down?

Ron: Yes indeed we hope you will soon be declared cancer free. If it was the job, is there any way to prove/claim against that - or were you an independent (not many independent car carriers I guess) Anyhow, what line of work suggests itself now?  Nice score on the used electronics.Thumbs Up

Rob:

***Der, I haven't looked at the bell yet. I will need to get out the magnifier for that one. My eyes are not good at all these days. We'll see about the other stuff, but I reckon there are plenty of places to place "stuff", especially if we give 'em some rust treatment.
...the bell may, when you get around to it, need a different mounting base - I just made what in real life would be a steel plate onto which it would be bolted, and sit on a flat area on the boiler. I'm not familiar with steam-loco practice. The other things, yes, as Robby ( Congrats on the job BTW, Robby, and as Jeff says, "A job is a job!") keeps reminding us, they will just get better with rust! (There are two sets of wooden step ladders, and wooden ladders and stairs too on that sheet IIRC, don't rust everything in sight! I posted the "GLEAM" stick FYI, it's very handy for N, and the principle would hold for HO I suspect.  For placing the chicken house, I left you lots of delivery pipe to play with.
The new cleaning car works GREAT. Only issue is the wife's Bachman 2-8-0 doesn't weigh enough to push it through crossings..
No room for extra weights then?
Then flew her large plane and crashed it 3 times into different trees.
....which is why I gave up planes and moved to ships, before being bitten by the mrr bug!
 That larger plane
...TrolleyRob sent me this the other day... http://users.skynet.be/fa926657/files/B29.wmv
How easy/hard is it to MU two DCC sound equiped (HO) locos of different makes & models together for double heading?
I think that you'll find it's been covered in the DCC Forum http://cs.trains.com/TRCCS/forums/744.aspx and look around.

TSF: Groan! (or is that squeal?)

Ken: That stinks about the house (or the bank's attitude) but as you can get something that's more manageable, and things are looking up at work, this may turn out to be an unintended favour on their part.  Any change in travel time from the possible new home to work?

Email yesterday  afternoon said there was a great band at a dance in the Harbour that evening starting at 9, so as we enjoyed the band (The Working Class Band, out of Halifax, augmented by a local school teaher on trombone) last year, we went, even though it was short notice. Seems like word had got out to a lot of folks, the place was jumping! A very good time, and for a cause, the music program for the local school, which this teacher has grown from zero program to a 60 piece orchestra across 3 grades in 4 years.

Yesterday I tried to figure out why my F40PH was only powered from the rear truck, so took it all apart - the connections to the trucks were apparently good, but I re-soldered them anyway JIC. THAT resulted in the front truck not having enough swing to take the curves. Re-soldered the leads to it. Back on the track, and no power to the motor. Investigating showed all the disturbance had broken the grey wire off the motor. Re-soldered that, and it ran fine through the curves, but that front truck still wasn't powered. Next thing (this morning by this time) was to check the joins in the red and black wires to the decoder- resulted in the available morning time spent totally replacing the power leads from the trucks to the decoder. Now the loco is back in service running far better than one might expect a pre-Athern Life-Like to do, especially one that's been disassembled so many, many times.  Also included in the fix was the repair of the broken wire to the rear light. Kris has sent me the following, which I expect a number of us have seen before, but she thought it would be appreciated in the Diner! In the light of Todd's comment

Well, I have no idea what I will do today. Brenda hasn't told me.... IIIII MEAN, I haven't figured out what needs to be done nor have I ASKED her what she would like done that I am WILLING to do. (ahem) Ya, that's it..... So I guess I just play it by ear.
it couldn't come at a better time!

These are our rules! Please note... they are all numbered '1' ON PURPOSE

1.   Men are NOT mind readers.
1.

1.
Ask for what you want.  Let us be clear on this one!  Subtle hints do not work!  Strong hints do not work!  Obvious hints do not work!   Just say it!
1.
Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.
1.

1.
If you think you're fat, you probably are.   Don't ask us.
1.
If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one .
1.
You can either ask us to do something Or tell us how you want it done.   Not both.  If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.
1.

1.
Christopher Columbus did NOT need directions and neither do we.
1.    ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings.   Peach, for example, is a fruit, not A color.   Pumpkin is also a fruit.   We have NO idea what mauve is.
1.
If it itches, it will be scratched.  We do that.
1.    If we ask what is wrong and you say 'nothing,' We will act like nothing's wrong.  We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.
1.    If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, Expect an answer you don't want to hear.
1.    When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine... Really!
1.    Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as baseball or golf.(OR MODEL RAILROADING!)
1.    You have enough clothes.
1.    You have too many shoes.
1.    I am in shape.     Round IS a shape!
1.   Thank you for reading this.
Yes, I know I have to sleep on the couch tonight; But did you know men really don't mind that?   It's like camping

Next project, see why a GP15-1 will only crawl, even though I've re-set CV05 and CV06 to higher values. Suggestions welcome. While I'm doing that I think I'll see if I can make a set of decals for trailers in the livery of a local grocery chain (Sobeys) Pics if I'm successful!

OH GLORY!!!! “ I whip my hair back and forth, I whip my hair back and forth…..” (and so on until your mind turns to mush and your teeth are ground to the gums) I went to the FLHS todayBig Smile. Felt pretty good too.

Why are there people outside screaming anti graffitti stuff? Oh, I see. I'm with Ray on graffitti, but, to each their own. Right or wrong it is out there and if someone really wants to model prototypically, well... can't ignore it I guess. But they do in my world. Ah the joys of freelancing.

Back to my trip to Castle Trains. Bought four pieces of flex track, a single axle semi tractor, a tunnel portal and some track spikes. Notice I didn’t say cork roadbed? Well that’s because they were out and have been for a while.( the one thing I really needed of course. I can lay roadbed without track, but can't the other way around)  Thereby starting a mild rant by the fella behind the counter about Atlas’s ways of doing things. Then proceeded to engage in a conversation about many things. Finally got out. Not complaining mind you, but did you ever notice that folks like to talk mostly when you are in a bit of a hurry? Actually with all that I was in there only 30 minutes and that is close to the record for me in shortest stays. I could have just bought some cork and bevelled and such, but for the cost of roadbed as opposed to the time to make it…. I’ll wait. Besides there is one more place I can go, but I probably won’t be able to get there until at least Tuesday. I have other things I can do if I end up able to work on the railroad.
I did get the wire from Mom’s house so I can run that and….shoot! Forgot the drywall mud there. Oh well, I can get it tomorrow.

Robby- HEY! You retired? Just kidding, My goal is to work at Walmart. “Hi! Welcome to Walmart.” Funny how life goes full circle. Nothing wrong with Walmart, my half sister has worked there for years. She loves it and says they are a pretty good company to work for. Well, as long as you do something for the company while you're expecting them to pay you that isWhistling.

Time to head back to the basement. Say, why’s the snow melting to the Northeast?

Good afternoon.

I'm doing some creative stuff for a foreground scene in front of the scrap yard. having fun.

Ulrich. That steam loco has a lot of detail. Modules are already going together, too. The examples of others are impressive. ... Thanks for the info about the tragdey in Germany. Prayers for victims and their families.

Rob ... DCC has "consisting" to MU locos. The manual should expalin it. Also, you can work with decoders to regulate speed and rates acceleration along with other stuff.

Happy Model Railroading

Just got a call from Wal-Mart for a job interview working 3rd shift.  Its been awhile since I worked a 3rd, and that will be a job in itself to get use to.    My first ever job was at Wal-Mart.   Goodness I was 16.   How young I was then.

Sorry for those lost and injured in the crash in Germany.

Thinking ahead a bit: How easy/hard is it to MU two DCC sound equiped (HO) locos of different makes & models together for double heading?

We're going to start taking down the Christmas tree today. Should have some train room time tonight, energy providing.

Cheers! Cowboy

Afternoon folks!

Didn't get here for breakfast so I'll just have a chicken club sandwich and a cup of dark roast coffee for lunch.

Currently 24°F under sunny skies here in the Finger Lakes Region.  The white stuff is busy melting off the roof of the house from the sunshine.  i should flip the switch and turn on the electric melting system to hurry it along.  We are supposed to have some snow midweek, and it would be good to get everything cleaned off before THAT happens.

Ulrich and others, my prayers for those involved with the train crash in Germany.  Hope the death toll does not get any higher!

Ulrich, it is very good to see you starting on a layout!  I know you will enjoy it!

Ken, everything will work out for you...  one way or another, I guess.  know you are in my prayers.

For those of you into car weathering and graffiti (I personally am not) here are a few cars from the train I was chasing last Monday...

Going to spend some time putting the first of the belt drives in place....  I have taken my blood pressure meds for the day already.............

Later!

Good Afternoon Gang,

the death toll of the train wreck has risen to 11 people now, and a number of the injured are still in a very serious condition. The reason for the accident is believed to be a malfunctioning signal, allowing the freight train to enter the single line main already occupied by the passenger train. The freight train´s engineer is among the survivors, but cannot be interrogated by now.

Zoe, just a mug of hot chocolate, please. It is icy cold outside, "freezing fog".

Ken - I am sorry to hear that you may eventually lose your house. We have just been through that experience and I can tell you that it takes a lot of water flowing down the Shenandoah River to come over this. The apartment I owned is right now going into foreclosure, but once that´s done, I´ll be over it. Actually, I feel much more relieved now the whole thing is coming to an end. But I´ll keep you and your family in my Angel for a turn to the better!

I finished my "benchwork" for the first set of modules today - put ´em together, sanded them, painted them. Petra is complaining about the odor, but it´ll be gone by tomorrow. I did the actual painting in our attic, but it is too cold up there to leave them for drying.

Here are some pics:

Hard to believe that eventually they will look like this:

Each module is just 12" by 6"!

I also took some more pics of my Japanese beauty queen, just to be able to enjoy the detail. N scale is so small, I can´t savor it without the help of magnifying glasses - or pictures.

Have a good one, y´ all!

Good Morning All!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on a snowy Sunday..Yesterday was one of those crazy days when nothing goes as plan and that lead to no modeling.I am debating whether Atlas or Micro Engineering's weathered track on Slate Creek..Switches will be medium size Peco.

I shall have a cup and look over the forum.

Have a good'un!

Good morning. It's 58° with rain. The high will be 67 and there's a 50% chance of rain.

Nothing special planned for today. It just seems like one of those sit back and see what happens kind of days.

cudaken

Jeffery I got ask what was wrong with the Proto 2000 that you swiped it's truck? My self, I rather have a PK over a Athearn.

It was one of three Proto 2000 FA's that were in my junk box. It had a bum motor and a cracked frame. #2 has a cracked frame, bum motor, no shell. #3 has a cracked frame, no shell, no motor. All three had descent trucks but side frames on all are missing detail parts. In short they're only good for parts.

Good Morning! Coffee please. Dark Roast Thank you.

My Prayers for those involved in the train wreck.

Today, I shall figure out where we will eatDinner. Brenda and I used to once a week and on Sunday’s, make it a point to go out to eat. Not Fast food, but regular sitdown type, or…, a buffet. With Mom and all the last couple three years, we have kinda lost our Date time (no regrets). Usually Sundays were reserved for leisure and no work. Tried to get everything done that needed done before Sunday, weather or circumstances beyond our control of course, sometimes changed things a bit, but we usually did for the most part. And, I figured she could use the time off too. Many times however a Sunday dinner at home is her choosing though.

BUT I digress, Plans are to work a bit on the layout, hit Springfield for dinner, maaaaybe, I miiiiight stop by the FLHS and pick up some odds and ends. I know I’ll need some more track nails to hold stuff while the glue and caulk dries, and some cork roadbed and some flex track. I have all the switches/turnouts (whatever the preferred name is) I need and maybe just maybe…Confused..I forgot. Anyway, not sure about that yet. Getting a little jittery about going back to the hobby shop. Kinda like a kid grounded from the toy store and now gets to go back and buy something. Need to stop by Mom’s apartment and get the mail (out buy Castle TrainsWink) and then stop by her house to get the electrical wire I scavenged from the basement project to use for more buss lines. I need to get back out there this week to wind up a few odds and ends. Little stuff but things that need to and should be done. And then a few things we don’t have to do but I’d like to do.

In other news, I have not seen the weather reports for a couple days (surprise is my friend) but rumor has it we are expecting a “significant” snow fall come Tuesday. I doubt it because of the giant snow eating beast in the garage, but should we get this downpour of snow, I expect for the thing to not start and have to muscle it into the back of the truck, take it to the dealership and wait for it to get repaired. Meanwhile I’ve shoveled the drives, my back is destroyed for a month and the snow has melted before I get it back. Thereby once I get it back, not needing it. Watch and see.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

Good Morning Folks,

It is not really a good morning. Garry has already reported about the train crash, which took 10 lives and left 33 people injured. It was a head-on collision of a freight train, running a signal, and a light-weight rail car. The freight train plowed through the front part of the rail car and then just dumped into the dirt.

Here are some pics:

My prayers go out to the families of those who lost their lives and healing prayers to the injured!

Bad train crash in Germany is being reported. Passenger train collided with a cargo train killing ten people and injuring 33 others. Prayers for victims and their families.

Perhaps, Ulrich can fill in the details.

Todd, glad to hear you wokred on the layout. Movies? I gave up on movies. Each one I watched was about 2 hours out of my life. I almost never watch them now.

Ken .. sorry to hear the bad news. Hope things improve.

Hot Chocolate please.

Ken- Real sorry to hear about the house. I was hoping the bank would be a little easier now with the job and all. Maybe soon there may be a little light even if in another direction.

Cyphered out the first inside curve at 24" radius on the northwest corner and laid one half of a strip of roadbed cork. Was going to do more but ended up watching some silly giant alligator and giant python movie on SyFy channel. Should have stayed in the trainroom. At least the two bimbo "stars" got eaten in the end and it was better than the giant pyranha movie on before and the giant shark vs giant octopus movie before that. SyFy channel, gotta love it Laugh
