Bachman GP35 CSX 4402

I have a Bachman GP35 CSX 4402 and I¨ve a question about it.  Is this model based on a real prototype?. Searching in the internet I´ve seen this road number is a GP40 -2.

It may depend on the paint scheme in which your model is painted -- for large railroads that have merged and re-merged, roster numbers can change as the new consolidated company rationalizes the roster.

If you check other on-line rosters for earlier eras (which aren't always accurate), you'll find that some appear to show GP-35 units in that CSX number series. Today that number may be assigned to a different type of loco. I'm not a CSX expert, so I'm not sure when these roster changes took place.

If you do some research, you will discover in what era the paint scheme for your model existed, and then you can cross-reference it with a roster for that era. That's one way to know for sure.

If you post a photo here of your model, there may be some knowledgable CSX modelers who can tell you the era for that particular paint scheme.

So bottom line, it's possible that the model you have is accurate for some paint scheme (and thus, for some era -- but not all eras).

Of course, sometimes manufacturers put paint schemes and numbers on the wrong type of model just because that's what they have to sell.
