After that I hit a shop over there and picked up 8 40' trailers, a PFE 85' flat, 2 SP 50' PC&F boxes, and a BN FMC covered hopper. All Athearn for $80.

And that was only saturday

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

I have seen a number of the Athearn RDCs with the gear drive conversion that were donated to our Boothbay group for resale. The conversion changes the RDC from all wheel, rubber band drive to gear drive on the front truck only. The drive shaft goes across the front compartment, so installing seats there may be questionable. The part in back of the motor would be clear, so seats could be installed there with no problems.

 Thank You for the effort BRVRR but with it being a Athearn nothing is the same. As I stated mine has the Rubber Band Drive but I have the need kit to convert it to truck drive. My motor is in the center as well.

 I am not even sure if I can install one row of seats with the placement of the motor.

 Funny thing when I could have got a Proto RDC car cheap, I did not like them. Then I got the Rubber Band drive, go figure.

 Still like some more pictuers.

I found an old photo I took during the modification of my RDC. It shows the chassis sans body shell. The Digitrax DH123 is clearly visible on top of the stock light board. I installed a couple of grain of wheat bulbs on the bottom side, wired to the power pickups for lighting. They are just visible below the chassis light board.

I really love done in a day. I've read it cover to cover, several times. Practically memorizing the darn thing. It's one of the first books I picked up after I got "re-started" in the hobby. I love weathering, and that was just what I needed.

  Got a few pictures to share. I have had a renew interest in Covered Hoppers. I built some Accurail from the fallen flag line up. Over all not a bad kit, but a few things I did not like, like mounting post for the truck's and couplers.

 Engine is a RSD 15 by Blue Line. I must say I love the sound and looks of the engine. Pulls pretty darn good as well.

 

 Next is three Costume Painted Athearn Blue Boxes, only cars I have that do not matching road numbers.

 Next is a old Blue Box hopper I got used off E Bay 5+ years ago. It had been painted a God Awful Blue and was wore out. Finally got around to painting it and installing new trucks. Have some Santa Fee Decal's I will install in a few days.

 Next are a few Train show find's, both are Athearn BB

  Next is another Train Show Car, a Inter Mountain Kit I built. Well for $4.00 what can I say. But, very disappointed with the kit. Few of the parts fit well, most had to be sanded to fit. Trucks where just plain junk and had to be replaced with Athearn's. But what disappointed me the most, after installing around 75 to 90 parts, detailing does not really look better than the Athearn's.

 Final picture, couple more costume painted Athearn Blue Boxes.

 Thanks for the answer BRVRR. After I posted I looked better at your picture and saw it does look different than my Athearn. Guess before I worry about the lighting I need to get the decoder and gear drive installed anway. 

 Still like the paint of the front, I may steal that idea.

The RDC is a Proto 1000. I'll have to look and see if I have any images from when I modified my RDC and installed the lights.

There is a pre-stripes photo and a brief description of what I did to it on my website on the 'Early Diesels' page. Just go to the bottom of the page. Here's a link:

Hope nobody minds a few 1/1 scale photos.....

On the way home from the Large Scale show, we did a bit of Railfan stuff.  Here are a few shots of the Rockville Stone RR Viaduct over the Susquehanna River just North of Harrisburg, PA.







When Built in 1902 it was the longest stone bridge in the world.  It is still used regularly 100+ years later.  Just to give you some prospective, here is one of the whole thing...

  I am guessing it is a Athearn that came with the rubber band drive.

I went to your website (before you repaired the photo link).  I thought I was the only one who had Hogwart's Express and Thomas the Tank Engine in my miniature world.

When my grandson is operating, Thomas has even been known to run in the subway.

This was my first laser cut wood structure kit.  It went together really well and the two level porch construction was easy and looks great.  The Campbell roof shingles (not in the original kit) also turned out well after painting

Crandell, another great photo of a big steamer. Great work.

I finally got around to striping the front of my NYC RDC. Once I worked out the methodology it went pretty well.

MargaritaMan, are your douglas firs flocked?

 Most of those trees are Grand Central Gems pieces and they do flock them over plastic branches.  I've changed a few of them with cheap hair spray and Woodland Scenics ground foam.  The few hundred in the background (and shorter) are ones I've made and saved from an old layout using every method in the book.

Track planning for realistic operation

Done in a day

A huge bag of Accumate couplers

6 covered hoppers- 2 P2K, one Accurail, 3 unknown all needing some minor repair work and repainting

A Bowswer 3-bay hopper

A bundle of sectional track (I use it to plan out layouts)

Total cost was about $70 for it all. Sorry for the bad picture quality.

The work train  holds the main in Redmond waiting for the crane  to return from laying out rail. Once the supplies are unloaded they will move down the line and finish getting the siding built.

 

 The real stoty is I ran out of wire so I had to stop work on the track. If all goes well I should have some wire Monday and get the layout completly operational by next weekend.

The photo artistry has really stepped up several notches from what I remember.  I have a ways to go.

My first attempt at a douglas fir.  Used method from Darryl Huffman..
