Toothpick Trees
Posted by BNSFrailfan on Thursday, September 2, 2010 9:03 PM

Hello,

I remember reading an article in model railroader about making trees with toothpicks, does anybody know how or what month that article was in?

Thanks

Don't remember when the article was, but if it is the one I am thinking of they used puff balls trees and stuck a tooth pick into the ball to give it a little height and the illusion of a trunk.  They wouldn't be used in the foreground, but rather behind other trees or underbrush.

Have fun,

I believe what your referring to are known as furnace filter trees, Pieces of fiber furnace filter are cut into round segments and just stuck on a tooth pic or skewer and then pulled upwards to separate them and then painted green.

Here are a couple of pics of some back round trees I made years ago little hint paint the sticks black before you start. I can honestly blame these on the medication as i was going out of my mind while home recovering from surgery and jsut started making trees one day sitting at my kitchen table.

As back round  or filler trees there ok but I don't recommend using them as foreground trees.

Just my 2 cents worth, I spent the rest on trains. If you choked a Smurf what color would he turn?
