As stated in other posts, I don't have room for a layout yet. I have 2 choices, be a armchair molder,  or work on building up my skills, creating dioramas.  I purchased the Woodland Scenics "The Scenery Kit" and here is my progress so far. This is my very first attempt at modeling, it looks so much easier on video.  I would also like to say thanks to all the folks that post pictures, and share their tips, they have been an inspiration.

The train came by and I got on, that’s when it all began

Workshop Pix!!!!

Here are a couple shots of my Proto 2000 GP40 chassis in the big Lagun milling machine with a very small 0.040" 4 flute bit chucked in an Albrecht 0-1/2" chuck. It is multi vice'd to get the 90 degree angle to make the LED pockets for the Front & Rear Ditch Lights. I plan to epoxy the wired LED's in the new pockets & let them shine through 'Detail Associates' Lens' & buckets. This will allow for smooth disassembly if I want to DCC it sometime soon. I have a 'batch' of Kato (#6600) SD40-2Mid's that I started inverting the ditch lights on, but realized they were not in a scale position. I will build a couple of them that way, but will have to use a connector system to do the 'new ones' in scale placement on the outside of the front plate (on the deck molding, not the chassis). Please inquire if you have any question on how I flip the Kato's, or make the other lights if it has any interest to you. I enjoy & believe in sharing information, & welcome your feedback. Thanks!

huh, i was quoting the guy in the previous post; did the quote blocks not show up?

Well, even though my 4x8 is on the way out, I still want to finish the hills I started, and I still have a while before I can start the hollow core door layout. I'll hopefully get some work done on that scenery either today or tomorrow and I'll share the pics then or in the next wpf

Hello everyone. I have done a little bit more on the scenery side of the layout. The old hill is gone but i like the new ones better. There are touch ups to do but for my second scenery attempt ever im pleased. Here is a shot of my latest creation.

Nope, but had a nice visit with him and grizlump9 today at K-10, it was a mini forum get together of sorts.

Wow! Excellent ROCKS! I love this scene. I love the SP too. Are those articulated tank cars? Also what's your secret on those rocks? Would love to do something similar on my Eastern California RR. Rob

More progress on the Thomas Sub...

Just about finished the wiring, and got the fascias up around the peninsula.

Also painted the sky board that surrounds the helix up to Elkins...

and started working on a good sized industry for Thomas, WVa, the Kingsford Charcoal plant...

Bending a little light with that one... Kingsford was, and still is, located a few miles down river at Parsons.  But what's a little selective compression between friends?

Jeff, the weathering is looking great... you've come a long way!

So here's my crappy cell phone snapshot of my work. I needed the flash, but it completely screwed the lighting up. Hills are painted, and I worked on the poly fiber as much as I could, but I need to go get some more dollar hairspray.

Definitely late to the party this week!  Mainly because I spent most of the weekend working on some new passenger cars.  I finally got around to some weekend photo fun this afternoon.  In no particular order:

Decals for a Pacific Parlour Car using a Superliner I as the base.  Lights installed and interior painted with passengers:

In honor of the new Viewliner order, I started putting together an all-Viewliner consist with some prototypes for Amtrak to consider!

Here's one not in the order - Viewliner Sightseer Lounge:

Viewliner Baggage Car:

Amtrak Kawasaki cars for Las Vegas service (because state funded lines never can agree on buying cars that match current stock!)

And finally, weathered up some of the cars on my Trona Local:

Have a great week everyone!

Thanks!  My trestle is a freelance project inspired by a similar trestle in New London CT (P&W).  There are also a number of other similar trestles I came across while researching - the most dramatic is the Alburgh Trestle that crosses Lake Champlain.

I hear you there! I am looking forward to staffing the model train buiding at Boothbay Railway Village next Friday for the first of 2 Thomas the Tank 3-day weekends. Probably a younger crowd (4 to 7 years) than the one at K-10, but lots of excitement as well as the nap time meltdowns. Shock Big Smile

Is this a kit? Or kitbash/scratchbuilt? If so, outstanding work! I was on one of these cars commuting home from Boston about an hour and a half ago, and you've captured it very well!

Some very nice work as always folks!

Since they haven't locked it up yet, and I finally made it downstairs to the layout tonight, I decided to play around a bit more with the new 10mm-22mm wide angle lens I recently got.

Took some shots of the Roundhouse at Hopewell junction.  Not much going on today.  Only loco inside is old #38 undergoing a major rebuild.

Couple shots looking through the Coaling Tower towards the Roundhouse.
