Do you return to threads after having replied once to see other replies?

Yes. After I reply to a thread I bookmark it and save it in a file so I can access it later and see other people's replies.

I've enjoyed your forums! I use the "Watch Topics" feature, which will always send an e-mail to let me know when a reply is posted.
What I have done, is click on "Forum Index," then "Active Topics." Give the page a munute to load, and you'll come up with all forums active topics since your last visit, (by default). On your Microsoft Internet Explorer toolbar, click "file," on the drop-down list click "send to," then "shortcut to desktop." The desktop icon will show "Trains.com - Active Topics." Every time you click on that icon, a new page will load, and all replies in all forums since your last log on visit will be listed.
Two issues: 1) When you do get notice that a reply has been posted, go ahead and use the active topics link from your desktop. Any time you log on to any webpage, as the links for the magazines news updates, that is your last visit. 2) If you use the link provided with your e-mail, or log off the page (like accidently hitting the exit icon, as I somtimes do), just click on your desktop icon, and where it says "All Topic Since" use the dropdown list, for the period of time you wi***o catch-up on. If you use the links on the forums pages-active topics, you can click on the "Back" button until it won't respond, and the active topics pages show-up by default, right where you left off. As an aside, I get a kick out of how sometimes my reply IS the last reply. I've posted new topics Like Southern Railway System GP59 #4610 Repainted

I enjoyed doing that one, as the title might lead people to believe the possibility of that commemorative locomotive being painted black! Also it gave me a chance to see how many members enjoy the stuff I like. That is a pretty attractive paint job, and so I update the pictures links, from time to time.
Also, I use the "preview reply" to edit really heavy, use a 60,000 entry dictionary, and try to make the reply as plain, spelled out, and accurate as possible.

I usually check back to see of other people have a better idea than I have posted on how to solve a problem, or have had similar experiences to mine which might be indicative of a product to avoid in the future. Sometimes my advice may be way off base or outdated, and I hope other people correct my information if it's not up to snuff.

Thanks for the feedback. I was a bit surprised (pleasantly) at the almost universal positive response. I know I go back and recheck threads, for all the reasons you have mentioned. But I thought it might have just been that I had too much time on my hands.[(-D]

I always consider my replies as a germ of an idea, that will be completed by someone else's better, more rational and sleep supported thoughts, so I always return.
There are so many different ways of thinking that to not return would take away about half the fun for me.

Most of the time, unless the thread isn't of too much interest to me and it starts to get to be many many pages, then it takes to long to catch up and I just don't go back. --- but that's only if I'm not interested.

Sure do! Often someone may have question or ask for more info and the only way to know they asked is to go back and take a look once in a while. Also, you might find that someone else has a great idea that just happened to post after I did so there is a chance I might learn something.

First time posting a poll, hope it turns out alright.

When replying to an original posted thread, I have occasionally made a comment regarding another post in the thread, either to ask for clarification, make a joke, or just add a general comment. Afterwards I have wondered if the poster I commented to ever returned and saw my comment.

So my question is: After replying to a post, do you usually return to the same thread later (assuming there are additional posts added) to see what other people have added?

I think the operative word here is 'usually'. I realize there are always circumstances that may keep you from doing so on any particular thread.

Just wondering,
