Looks like abandoned rails to me, but consider the source: PanAm = Guilford on an old B&M line. Who knows how bad the trackwork was before trains stopped running?

I got hold of some ancient and venerable Northeast Decals, and tried my best not to mess them up.I sprayed the decals with a thin coat of clear lacquer to keep them from crumbling from age. Aside from a minor slip of the pin stripe, I think it turned out well. I'm amazed at how sharp the Fireball herald is even after all these years. The engine now has a number to go with the decoder address!Lee

Well it has not been the best of days on the CK RR. Seems I over oiled the new engines (NIB but still 5 over years old) and it oiled the track! Ever see a Y6 b spin it wheels? I have now. I know the drill, not fun but will clean the mess up.
Plus I lost another PK 1000 F3, I think. If I did it will be 3 out of 4 Monon to kick the bucket. They do have well over 400 hours of run time so I cannot complain.
Anyway few pictures.
New Stewart's F 9's that I was going to convert to Monon F-3's. (shells interchange)
Dragging a passenger train, cars are Con Cor and work well now with some work.
Boy, wiping down 300 feet of track is going to be a pain in the caboose.

Good Luck with the cleanup. Any chance of reviving the F3? What failed? Gears, Motor, pickup?

At the time of the photo it was active. This was before they actually did a minor fix where they removed the rails and put 2 sections of prefab track over the old ties/roadbed to make it less of a hazard. After that 2 trains ran over before service stopped in February of 2008.

Wow, those have to be about the worst I've seen. Imagine what was going through the mind of the engineer driving through there. Good find.
I've not been as active as I'd like this holiday weekend, but did manage this evening to spend a few minutes at the work desk just sitting and letting a couple of trains go. Took a quickie video of the moment.

Not a real high quality video, but nonetheless a nice way to end a long weekend.

Fine Jim, just kick another Monon Guy when he is down by showing your F3's dragging freight!
Far has why it died, besides seeing the same rail time as the others I am going to guess it ate a decoder because the motor started to draw to many amp's.
Will find out more Wednesday.
My self, I think Monon Guy gave the Monon Caboose a DCC virus I got from him! He thinks DCC is evil and his trying to save me from the Dark Side. It might be working!
Cuda Ken killing engines again.
Oh, oh, I think Ken's on to me!
Hamltnblue gmcrail what do you use to add the smoke and steam to your pics?

I have a (very) old version of Paint Shop Pro that I use for just about all my photo editing work. In this case, the airbrush and smudge tools, on a separate raster layer.

I too still have a 5 year old version of Paint Shop Pro I use for adding head lights, etc that I can't do with PS Elements.

Model Railroading is indeed a strange hobby when you can post a picture of a mud puddle and get rave reviews.
And yet, your work is stunning. Very excellent, KUDOS!!!!

P&SlocalAfter seeing the prototype pics for this...ummm...mess, I thought there was no way that they actually ran trains (or attempted to) through the real thing. Then pics of a stuck locomotive. Holy Cow!!! I can just hear Bo and Luke Duke Engineer going ...YeeeeeeHawwwwwww!!!! (Wonder if they played Dixie on the air horn before hitting the mud hole?)

Don't matter much, Uncle Jesse will be along directly to get the boys out of their jam. Meanwhile they can spend the time showing Daisy how to handle the throttle. And I'll bet Roscoe never finds the illegal hootch stowed in the back hatch...
Nice find. Are those plastic or metal wheelsets?
