Does anyone know if there is any company currently making a norfolk & western m class 4-8-0 ? I have one brass one from sunset models but I need several more . RON
Only brass to date.
Interestingly, QSI recorder 475 about a year ago.....
I am looking in bashing some N&W 4-8-0; and just got a Varney (more recently Bowser) "Casey Jones" 4-6-0 as a starting point. The boiler shape is close. For this one, I am thinking of Bowser 56" drivers (still available) which look similar to 475's drivers. The frame will be brass - see the various brass locomotive articles in MR over the years for reference techniques.
Another starting point I am investigating is the Spectrum 4-6-0 with"52" " drivers - it really has 56" drivers - same as the Spectrum 2-10-2 and 2-6-6-2. Again the boiler is about the correct shape, but would have to be extended.
And the third starting point I am looking at is the Bowser NYC K11 4-6-2 - which is very close to a N&W E2.
For kit-bashing; I believe that it is easier to start with a model that has a 4 wheel leading truck.
No, but for you SP fans, North Bank Line plans to come out with several versions of 4-8-0s.

That's the good news. The bad news is that the price will probably require the selling of various family members into slavery.
