Next Open House at K-10 Model Trains Maryville IL is 06-05-2010

Next open house is around the corner! June is not that far off and if you love running trains on a big layout it will be well worth the drive! Plenty of hotels close by.

The address is 19 Schiber Court, Maryville IL 62062-5625 phone 618-288-9720.

Visitors can watch the layout being ran for $3.00 or for $5.00 you can either run your own engine or one of the layouts engines. If you have time to make it by you will enjoy your self. Layout is 61' X 80' and over a mile of rails.

Few pictures if you have not seen the layout.

Young man Dwayn is my engineer running my Big Boy for me.

Open house is the first Sunday of the Month. So if you cannot make it today, there is next month.

I will be getting there today around 1:00 PM.

Sadly we can't get there today, other commitments namely my God Daughters First Communion, (do you think she would understand?) but here are some videos that Crispy shot when he was running trains at K-10 a couple of months ago

http://www.youtube.com/user/MrCrispybake#p/u/3/jMoGnGMtCDc

The kids have a blast being handed a wireless throttle and set loose.  There are not many layouts of this size that welcome child participation like this!  There can literally be dozens of trains out on the layout at once.  There are several sections where it is single track, there are signals to obey, but some of the novice operators don't notice.  However there are volunteer dispatchers connected via radio headsets positioned around the layout at strategic points that help to keep things moving.

It is worth visiting, if for no other reason than to see the future generation of our hobby being given an incredible introduction.

Great looking layout and a wonderful way to introduce kids into the hobby.

Wish that I knew about it sooner.

If K-10 was my LHS, I think I'd spend WAY too much time there.

As for running the trains, the RCT&HS has some UT4's that get handed to kids when the modular show is set up. Yo can't beat letting someone actually runt he trains to generate interest. Looking at allt he nice scenery is ok, but to actually control the train! That's just one step down from actually being in the cab.

Gee Ken, on the first photo, you forgot to mention the engineer in the brown blouse. Does she show up there often?

Well that engineer was not there but today there was a blond and she had a sweet Auto Rack she was running.

Few pictures and not of the blond.

Person with out hair is the uncle of my engineer, Dwayn.

My engineer and my Big Boy.

Boy this guy looks happy! Guess it because he is stuck with a Diesel!

I all so took some Monon F-3's to K-10.

And took some cheap old worked TYCO old dutch hoppers.

Hope to see some of you there next month.

It would almost be worth it for me to drive about 7 hours and come and operate some trains.

I think it would be Will. K-10 all so has some very fair prices as well. Besides, where else would you get to see a fleet of Tyco Old Dutch Hooper's? I only had 19 on the bench, still had 10 to go.

Gonna do Morton Salt once the Old Dutch ones are done? I got rid of mine years ago or you could have it.

Good to see the World's largest collection of Tyco Dutch hoppers in action (I don't think this is a Guinness book certified record).   It is a good job we were not there as Andrew would have wanted to terrorize everyone with his Eurostar.  He likes to get there late when the layout is fairly empty so he can open up the throttle on the long straights.

Randy, those car taught me a lot. How to make junk work well. I seldom run them anymore and have sold off a few. Plus it was real easy to spot the train from across the room!

Remember Simon, that was not all of them! Big Smile

I would like to see Andrews Euro Train running at its max speed. Seemed like it could haul going into my tunnel when you guys where over. (Only problem was it did not come out of the tunnel)

I think it is so good of you to let that wonderful kid play with your trains. You are the kind of person who will ensure the future of the hobby.

IVRW, if you ever make it up to my neck of the woods I will extend the same hospitality to you. I hope he can make it next month as well.

Great event! What a great way to introduce or encourage the interest of model railroading in our youth. I wish there were more child-centric shows like this when I was young.
