Slow day today on the wpf.  I am working on a tyco c630 my parents bought for me at a yard sale.  I gave them a list of what was good to buy and they didn't look at it.  They mean well I guess so I decided that I would put a new athearn frame on it with athearn trucks to make it look better.  I am also waiting on a superdetail kit coming in the mail.  Other than milling the frame and thinning it a bit I have filled the old truck mounting holes and filled the pilots.  It will have mu hoses and antennas added as well as whatever is in the kit.

here are some pics

I also put a mashima tan can in my rivarossi 2-8-4 this week but I have no picks yet.  I am going to do something about the pizza cutter flanges, anyone have any suggestions? I also did some work on some passanger coaches and am deconstructing a turntable for a repaint and detail.

Oooo...some very nice images shared already.  Niiiiiice. Cool

This is my first ever building scratchbuild.  It is incomplete...needs strapping and a chimney with flashing at the base, glazing, etc.  But, I thought I'd post an early view.  My hat is across the room for you fellows who make flawless and entirely believable buildings that are so much more complicated and intricate.  Sheeesh....I don't know if I'll ever manage it.

Grampy...Your modeling and photography of it just plain inspires me. The details and weathering of your work is what motivates me to walk downstairs and get dirty. Bravo!!.....Tim

There's been a landscaping frenzy! (yes, the yellow will be toned down/mixed, but haven't gotten there yet. and yes, I'm aware the lighting isn't too good, I should have brought the desk lamp over)

BH, if you don't yet, you are going to want to be buried with the Y6b.  It is an outstanding engine.  You have made a very fanciful, but wistful, image with the modern skyline.  It would be great to see one of them in steam again.  Heck, I'd settle on the Y3 they have laid up down in the States someplace, probably near Roanoke.

Thanks. I have been modeling in all modern but lately I've been warming to steam. I broke out my Blueline M1A which I had to repair the tender plug, and Just picked up the Y6B.  You're right about the Y6B, it's a beautiful loco and is a joy to watch for sure.  My Son especially likes watching the smoke which is synchronized with the chuff.

Oh and a few of the pics aren't modern.  The section around the bridge are original buildings from around WWII.

Howdy, I recently picked up on a new truck weathering technique thanks to Tom Mann's awesome book. Its impossible to screw up and it only takes about 5 mins per car or pair of trucks. and here is a shot I took a while ago, not much in the way scenery but the idea is here. Power for a later coal drag idling away in the empty yard while a mine run returns with 12 loads for the yard which will later become part of a unit train bound for Consumers Energy in Essexville, Mi. Great Night shot GTW6401. Also what color did you use to weather the tanker trucks?

Hey Hamltnblue, Thanks for the compliment! The the trucks are first sprayed with Rust-Oleum Rusty Metal Primer which has a tiny bit of texture and a rusty red color. When "dry" in 10 mins or so the primer is slightly tacky. I then dust the trucks and wheels with varying amounts of Cargo Dust, Russian Earth, Grimy Black, and Track Brown MIG Pigments and thats it, Re-install onto the car. Obviously the cars in the photos have not been weathered but just the trucks dramatically add to the look of the car right away I think. This process is now the first thing I do to a car and send it back out on the layout until I can devote the time to weathering the whole car. Don
