It's totally changed from 20 years ago. The station is much larger and reworked with over a dozen shops that even includes a decent size LHS. The museum is there as well and expanded

I go there about 4-5 times a year, sometimes more. It is only about an hour from my house.

I've been there so many times it's hard to count, the first when I was about 4 or 5. The changes over nearly 40 years are amazing.
I plan to be there again in July during the Reading Railroad Days, the RCT&HS will have their HUGE modular set up in the museum again. I'm a bit less than an hour away (the opposite direction from Sheldon) though so if anyoen wants to have some sort of impromptu meet-up, I'm game.

The museum does have a layout in the main lobby as well as in their workshop.

Great post and great album. My wife and I are looking for a train museum to go to this summer. This one definately qualifies for the short list.

Well part of that is because now you are looking at the raw boiler, they had to remove the lagging and pull all the asbestos out because, you know, all closed up under the boiler lagging it was going to get into the air and kill us all. Usually you only see boilers like that in construction photos. I doubt there was ever any intention of resotring those locos to actually run, they were merely planning to stuff and mount them like most of the equipment on display.
The crazy thing I'd like to see run? That little industrial switcher with the flathead Ford motor in it. It soits out south of the turntable with a couple of slightly larger industrial switchers.
Rather have seen those engines( 2-8-0---2-8-2---4-8-2----2-8-4 ) inside instead of all the passenger cars and box cars
I'd enjoy going just to see the last EMD E7 in existence! The story how she winded up there is amazing as she had been slated to be scrapped by Conrail back in the 70s.
