Mornin'.....

Zoe, coffee!  Lots of coffee!  Maybe a short stack of buttermilk pancakes to go along with it...

I'm up bright and early this morning (for me) so I can go to a meeting at school.  Members of the MLK Committee are meeting with the guidance councilors at the high school to review applications for the MLK Scholarship award.  Have to be there at 10 AM.

It is snowing outside!  Yep little white things are falling out of the sky.  Currently 36°F outside with the high of around 46°F.  Guess I will get the winter coat back out....

Better keep moving before I end up taking a nap...

Later!

Ulrich: Nice layout idea. I like it. I'm more for continuous main line running but my layout does have areas for some limited switching operations.

Good morning All,

Still raining and dreary. At least it's not snow. Waiting for the transport company to come pick up a 911S to go to Calif. and its' new owner. It's like sending your kids off to college - bitter sweet. Hopefully the new owner will enjoy the car as much as the last one.

Ulrich and Lee - sorry to hear of your losses.

Ulrich - I love your ideas. The latest switching layout looks great though I'd love to add a run around track somewhere on it.

Lee - Jeff has a lot of practice wiring two motors to one decoder. I'd defer to his experience, but seems to me a larger amperage decoder would run both motors at once if you can squeeze it in. I assume the old circuit board gets the heave-ho (notice i worked in a nautical term) anyway.

Robby - if the damage is extensive and it's going to take a while to fix, do you at least get a rental? And hopefully ther shop that's repairing it has a proper frame machine to pull the subframe straight. No place to cut corners there.

Todd - I share your pain with the didn't bring enough tools thing.

Keith. I love the ampitheater and the sidewalks/plazas seem to be coming along nicely. The detail in the rockwork and the paint on same is incredible!

Jerry - I ditto Keiths' comment on the cabeese. Very nice!

Gotta run - lots to do again today. I'll try to drop in later.   CUL, J.R.

 Lunchtime in Germany!

Zoe, make that a bowl of hot Mexican chili soup, garlic bread and a cerveza mexicana for me, please.

Thanks, folks, for all your thoughts and words on the passing of my friend Karl. Sometimes, you only notice how dear people are to you, when they are gone.

With nothing else to do, I again dabbled around with my track planning tool. Driven by the will to save on cost, I reworked an older design, which would be much cheaper to build, as there are a lot less turnouts to buy.  I also tried my hand at a 2-D rendition, to get an idea, what the layout could look like.

Here it is:

All this was drawn in WinRail/RTS.

I kind of like it.

You all have a good day.

Good morning,
Tonight it’s off to buy a suit.  Visitation is tomorrow and funeral is Thursday.

Packer; yes those QSI decoders are great. The F3 AB unit I bought actually has a sound decoder in both units so you get a stereo sound from them.   I picked up the SDN144PS for $40 each.  I have a friend that has a basement LHS.  They are a good price considering some chips run $99 each.

Robby, good to hear nobody got hurt.

Work was good tonight. Now I'm tired. Heck to be retired.

Rob- ONLY IF you don't mention the major things that need done until I get there. Laugh

JPowell
My main problem is my g/f got me hooked on a few of the games on facebook so I have been spending alot of time on there.

NO!!!!! NOT FARMVILLE!!!!!! WhistlingLaugh

Ray- If anyone can, I' m sure you can come up with a good story about your truck tied to the tree!!

Tomorrow is Mom day (don't know why I'm wasting your time telling you now, I'll say it again tomorrow morn) and then in the late afternoon to early evening I HOPE to get some mowing done.

BIG hope in the morning is to add two more supports to the bent I have on the work bench before the grocery truck unloading at or about 1030. I'd like to get the little bridge completed so I can start with the scenery. Major decision has been made involving the area but I won't keep you up with it tonight.

Prayers for those in need and that accident victims won't have further problems.

 Good evening.

Well the body shop called and the car is out its way.  I'm sure they will find more damage once its starts to get taken apart.   Plus the appraisal guy said "it will take a long time to fix the car".  The will almost have to replace the whole back end.  Plus he also said the back wheel is pushed forward.  Its at 47% percent damaged, and they won't total a car until its 80%.    I'm sure they will find more damage.

Didn't get much more done other than that.   I did work on a unloading/loading dock for the boxcars.

Sawyer.......She's pretty beat up still.  The doctor today did say a concussion peaks at about three days.  Then it doesn't hurt as bad.  I've really never been in a car wreck.  Jessica (my wife) was in a five car pile-up about four years ago.  Se seems to find the wrecks!!

Hope everybody has a good night.

Evenin' Folks!

Flo I'll just have a piece of the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on it and a cup of decafe.  I'll go sit in the back booth with the rest of the central NY guys.....

Tim and John, what the 2 of you need to do is get together and drive over to Oakfield, NY this Saturday for the LSD NMRA Meet.  All star cast (including me) doing clinics, and you get to visit the Genesee Society of Model Engineers (our host) O scale and HO layouts as well as 3 great home layouts during the afternoon.  If you leave Syracuse by 6:30 in the morning you should be there when we open the doors.....Big Smile

I got to w*rk on the handout for my clinics (2 clinics, 1 handout) today.  Also got the spend some time with my granddaughters this afternoon.  Little Emily was taking her nap when I got there.  After a bit I decided to check on her.  She was awake, standing up in her crib and playing with her stuffed toys.  When she saw me walk in, the grin she gave me could melt all the glaciers in the Arctic!  What a sweetie!  Olivia and I put together several different puzzles and had a great time.  Have to go back tomorrow as well.  It's a tough life.....  Truck is still attached via strap to the tree in my side yard with the hitch still in it.  It will probably be Wednesday before I start hammering on it again.

OK, need to get back to w*rk on the handout.

Later!

Most recently I was with Fayetteville. I started with them back in 2001, before moving over towards Kirkville and North Chittenango in mid 2001. I then joined Kirkville for a few months before I moved (house-wise) to East Syracuse in the summer of 2003. I never did join them. I moved back to Fayetteville in March of 04, but didn't rejoin them until early 2007, this time completing FF1 course, before buying a house in in August of 08 and moving to Fairmount. And in the time I have been here, I can say these guys are BUSY!!! Albeit, not as busy as Fayetteville.

Robby, ohhhhh that sounds a lot like the one I was in in 2009. I went to a basketball game at USCA w/ my buddy and his dad (and my girlfriend then and her brother came too, but they went home a diff. way) and after the game we went home. there was a huge line at the stoplight so we stopped, and then an almost-brand new (like 2007 is the oldest it probably was) Audi SUV slammed into us. we got shoved into the back of the Chevy HHR in front of us, and the driver's seat collapsed the gears and fell all the way back. no one in our car got hurt real bad, I was sore for a couple days afterwards.

glad to hear your wife was ok! accidents like that are NOT fun! soudns like your wife's was a lot worse though...

Strong coffee in a  SOGGY SOUTHERN  mug, please.

***Todd, I have a pickup & tractor in need of a little work. Already have the driveway and undersized tools for the job. Interested?Laugh

***Chris, my wife said yesterday she wants to go to the Train Store this week. Of course it's for something she wants for her layout, but I'll be happy to tag along.Big Smile

***Vincent, sounds like a nice little haul there.

*** Lee & Ulrich, my condolences for both your losses. It's never easy losing friends and loved ones.

Todays discovery was some scrap foam I believe will make, once cut & painted, a decent retaining wall for behind the wife's (HO) buildings. Only thing is, will need her permission to swap out some buildings to make enough room for the wall. Will change the foreshortening a bit, but should still be ok.

Hey ya'll

Went to a train show saturday. Picked up a DRGW 50' gon, an SSW 40' hi-cube, an SSW 50' double door FMC box, a CB&Q 86' boxcar, a weathered RF&P 50' box, and a GN 50' mechanical reefer. Also picked up a package of Walther's cushion coupler pockets, a package of A-line stirrup steps, and a set of A-line center sill weights for athearn 85' flats. Total cost: $30 Big Smile One vendor that I know had several sets of smokey valley GP9B convrsion kits for front range locos, and I'm thinking I should pick up a few sets to fix the ones on my P2K Geeps (9s, 18s, and 20s), and use the leftover stuff for fodder for other things.

I don't know if I mention my Panama City trip, but on the trip I got around 35 mpg with the car. So I'm sitting around 26 city and around 35 highway, not too shabby for a 20 year old car.

Lee and Ulrich, Sorry to hear about your losses

Lee, IMO, that sounds pretty good for a $50 sound and motor decoder. Maybe I'll get a pair of athearn SW1000s with an SDH164D (or an SDN144PS) and a DH163 instead of a pair of NW2s. Those P2K F3s would have QSI decoders.

Robby, good to see your wife will be alright.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

And yes, it IS amazing how fast them four-legged "people" can move! Sounds like your "yard" is about as bad off as mine! Tried to mow a little while ago with limited success. First, the mower which has fired-up just fine for the last two weeks was really balky about it today, acted like it just wasn't getting gas...probably time to do something with the fuel filter.Disapprove The best part came a little later when the "spark plug boot" decided to fall off, and won't stay on. the "one book fits a dozen models" owner manual doesn't show if something is missing.  Good afternoon...

LEE and ULRICH: Deepest condolences to you both.

ROBBY P: Glad your wife came through the crack-up OK...expect her to be sore for several weeks. Also, don't be surprised if she gets more/frequent headaches than she used to. The list of traffic violations you said the guy THAT hit her had...really makes one wonder what in the h*** he was doing driving! Banged Head Anybody wanna bet he's an uninsured motorist?

TODD: Glad MISSY survived the Coke barrageLaugh And yes, it IS amazing how fast them four-legged "people" can move! Sounds like your "yard" is about as bad off as mine! JERRY: NICE lookin' cabbeese! I've got a soft spot for the IC/ICG. It was all CCP by the time I started seriously looking at/for trains though.

BAMA CSX and JOHN POWELL: Hey, good to see you guys again!

KEITH: I'm really liking THAT ampitheatre... you N-sane scalers continue to amaze me.

Welp, "happy days are here again." Loving Wife authorized an expenditure for some lumber and paint...and now the north wall of the RR room has it's 1x4 L-brackets assembled and installed. This is the most significant progress made in the RR room in 5 years. Of course, I already have a list of things I "should've" put the money toward...and I'm sure before the week ends, something will come up costing at least as much as what was spent; if not more.

Time to go digging around for a small hose clamp...or something else THAT might hold the freakin' spark plug boot on.... *grumble grumble grumble*

Have a good, SAFE rest of the day everybody...

*wanders in see's everyone looking at him like they've seen a ghost*  Hey all!  I know, looooooong time no see...

Lee and Ulrich, I am deeply sorry for your losses, but I do agree with what you said Ulrich, they're just in another room, and they'll be waiting for us.

Well, life's gotten in the way of the diner for the past few weeks, the last page I remember coherently reading was back in the 20s and i see what we're already up to page 47, so I'm not even going to start to try to catch up before we move in a few days.

Todd, I know what you mean by working on things without the proper tools...its a PITA!

Nothing happening in my neck of the woods today, catching up on laundry and dishes are all that's on the HD list, so I'm going to spend my day in here amongst friends and fellow MRR'ers.  I finally got my hands on the May issue of MRR and I have to admit that I really liked it, especially at the end when talking about how different people run their layouts and how some make sure that they complete their session "on time" meanwhile others just run them for a few hours, then park them in a passing siding, much like the real railroads do it.

As for me, I'll have a grilled cheese with american and swiss cheeses, an order of fries and a RBF.  I may contradict myself here in a few and go back and try to catch up, but we'll see.

Zoe just a bowl of hot oatmeal with brown sugar and a cup of Dark Roast Coffee for me.

Lee and Ulrich, very sorry about your losses.  Know that you are in my prayers and thoughts.

Still raining here in the Finger Lakes.  Good!  We desperately need the rain, and this is a good slow soaking type.  We will be picking up around an inch and a quarter form the storm.  Currently 50°F under rainy skies.  Not going to get much warmer today.

Good day to stay inside and get a lot of odds and ends done.  Things like laundry, writing the handout for my clinics, cleaning house (it does need it!), finalizing the schedule for Saturday, practicing my presentations, packing stuff for the Meet, and little tings like THAT!

I do get to go over to my son's house this afternoon to watch the granddaughters for a little while.....Big Smile

Hope you all have a great day.

Lee - I always found it a comforting thought, that those loved ones who had to leave us, are not really gone - they are just in another room. There are always with us, in our thoughts and in our prayers. We can talk to them and they will hear.

Ulrich, sorry to hear of your loss; there was an older gentleman from Germany that I use to chat with on yahoo chat that had a machine shop in his apartment.  He scratch built brass HO-scale locomotives, mostly steam.  I should try and contact him and see what projects he has built recently.  Who knows maybe he is a neighbor to you….

Thanks for everyone’s thoughts and prayers for my family.  I’m sure the loss will hit me when I visit the funeral home.  My Grandfather passed away 18 years ago and ever since my Grandmother hit 80 she often wondered why she was still here.  Nobody from her side of the family lived past 80, so almost every day she has been getting ready for this morning.  I think my mother will be a basket case for the next few months and it will be up to my brother and I to keep her together through this process.

On a lighter note; I have 2 GE 44 Ton locomotives from Bachman, both having the dual motors.  The first one (green circuit board) was very straight forward with the decoder install; the second one has a white circuit board on the top.  This one with the white board; I don’t think I’ll be able to convert it to DCC.  Anyone have any suggestions on how to convert the second one?

Good morning all. Just coffee thank you. I’m still just a bit grumpy.

As with you Ulrich, by the way I offer my condolences for the loss of your friend, I have completed a MRR less weekend. My plans were dashed with a phone call needing an alternator and serpantine belt replaced. In a driveway, outside, away from my tools, undoubtedly requiring a tool I didn’t bring causing me too fight an extra hour to make do with what I have to save me from driving halfway across the county and back BECAUSE, they feel it’s too much to expect to be reimbursed for fuel to travel to them so they don’t have to pay a tow bill, ( biiiig inhale) juuuust because I didn't bring something needed to do the job. Not their fault. I guess I should have thought about maybe needing to replace the air conditioner bracket and brought the ½ inch drives. Did I mention they didn’t say anything about the required bracket being replaced until I got there and said, “ I can’t put the belt on it, that brackets broke.” To which they replied, “I know, I got that too.” Needless to say my 20 minute job took 3½ hours fighting with undersized tools for the job in a driveway. My favorite. Came home, ate, sat in my chair and went to bed early. Maybe today after church work and before work at 5.

Good to see JP’s still with us.

Lee- I’m sorry about the loss of your Grandmother. My sincere condolences to you as well as the rest of the family. Prayers for comfort.

Well, luckily I have a sidewalk from the front door to the driveway lest I get lost in the wilderness. It doesn’t look good for a mow day today and tomorrow doesn’t look good for me until in the late afternoon early evening. If that doesn’t happen then Wednesday will be the soonest and I’m not sure I could find the shed by then to get the mower out.

Have a Great Day!!!!

Lee - I am sorry to hear about the passing away of your Grandmother. As both my parents are well into their eighties and starting to ail, I know that this will one day (too soon) also happen.

Robby P. - I am using WinRail 8.0, which is essentially RTS, only with a much bigger track library. RTS has all the features WinRail has, it only takes a little bit of fiddlin´ around. And it is FREE of charge.
