Nearly 3 am and I am already up - can´t sleep. Sleepless in Hamburg. I ´d prefer Seattle.

Seems, as we have lost a few due to the weekend shut down. Barry, Jerry, Gary - just to mention a few mames.

C´mon guys - we are open!

Rob - that´s the way the medics look like in Germany. Too bad, Preiser does not care more about the US martket.

Sawyer......I had several other "slug" pictures but since my computer crashed.......I lost them Disapprove.  The train that brings the hoppers (I post pictures of) is always a "slug" and a SD40.  They normally have three of so different slugs, well I've seen.  I need to get some more pictures of the engine.

Vincent........CSX is repainting a lot of the engines.  One guy showed a slug and it was VERY old.  Rusted, beat up, just nasty!!!!!!!!  Then a few months later, brand new paint job.   I guess the old looking engines are getting redone.

Here's a video I got of the same "slug".   Sorry for the quality.

Hey ya'll, a double cheeseburger and cheese fries for me.

Jeff, the un-flashed shot looks alot better although the truck area seems a bit too orange. Each to his own I guess (I'm used to rust that is more brownish).

Rob, that GP35 slug isn't in that bad of a shape. I've seen quite a few other locos that are far worse running around on the CSX. I've seen (and may have a picture) of an MP15 with the step and bracket things on the trucks mssing.

Sawyer, I hear you about the spring blues. I don't get allergies, but when I wash my car, it'll be covered in pollen again in an a few hours. Sigh

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Robby, is it just me or does that CSX loco you posted a pic of have no radiator?

It isn't your imagination. CSX 2318 is a road slug.

Sawyer: Seems that you weren't alone with the allergies. Watching the tail end of The Master's from Augusta, it seems pollen was quite an issue (pun unintended - but it may as well stay!).

true, gotta love the CSRA! (Central Savannah River Area).

Afternoon peoples!

Cup of very strong coffee, Zoe!

Cederstrand
Hope everyone is doing well these days.

Well......  (deep subject), I have had better I guess.  I have spent most of today helping my son, but not the way I thought it was going to be.  He arrived this morning when he said he was coming, but brought the girls with him.  OK by me but I was wondering why he brought them to go to the Farm Store.  It seems his MIL (Who lives with them) got up in the middle of the night and was peeing blood.  She drove herself to the Geneva Hospital where she worked up until just a few weeks ago.  They did all the usual tests and all they can tell is there is something on one of her kidneys.  Could be as simple as a kidney stone, or as bad as a tumor metastasized from some place else in her body.....  She is on her way to Strong Hospital in Rochester, NY for more involved tests right now.  Had to wait all day to get her a bed there.  I watched the granddaughters from when Art had to go to work until his wife was able to get home from the hospital.

Here's hoping (and praying) it is something simple and benign!

I will make myself available to watch the girls this week as needed.

Have a meeting tonight, so I doubt I will get at much on the layout.  #1 granddaughter walks in the house this noon and immediately says, "I want to play Train!"  We did go down cellar for a few minutes and fire up  the layout for her.  She keeps asking and we usually have to say no so we made time today.

Hope you all have a good evening!

Extra strong coffee in an oversized  UNION PACIFIC  mug, please.

Hope everyone is doing well these days. Been busy here with non-MRRing stuff, although not much actually getting accomplished.Laugh

Trying to find Medics with a wheeled stretcher along the lines of what they wore long ago when my wife drove an ambulance. Best I can find thus far is the following, which I would have to repaint their clothes in dark blue:

Preiser PR-10532 Paramedics and Stretcher Any other suggestions? Can't imagine there isn't a more accurate and more modern (American) EMT type set out there?

Catch up with y'all later.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Johnboy.. nice way to put things.. I shall copy it and paste it with other saying I find dear to my heart.  Quote:  "But I do try to operate with a song in my heart , enjoying most everyday, and with a smile on my lips, finding some fun and enjoyment in the things that pass my way, and trying to help others enjoy themselves as well."

As for Jeff.. lol.. his skin is pretty thick..  besides he's got other things on his mind.

Jeff.. sweet.. now this is a choice shot.. good show~   SWEET!

The time frame is more or less present day. And yes, I do have a shot of it without the flash.

Jeff, I apologise if you took my comment as a put down , as Ulrich thought that it was. It was not intended as that.  I just wanted you and others to  have a good chuckle.

I am in full agreement with your three points and that is the way I operate  the Last Mountain & Eastern as well.

No apology needed. I didn't think of it as a put-down at all.

Jeff - I saw, that our friend has commented on the weathering of your loco - just grin and bear it.

Nah, they don't bother me. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. I have these three rules I operate by and one of the comments posted listed all three. #1: It's my railroad, #2: I make the rules whether real or imagined, #3: If you don't like the way I run it or do things consult rule #1.

Jeff, I apologise if you took my comment as a put down , as Ulrich thought that it was. It was not intended as that.  I just wanted you and others to  have a good chuckle.

I am in full agreement with your three points and that is the way I operate  the Last Mountain & Eastern as well.

I also continue with three fingers on one hand that is getting more unstable and also eyesight that isn't near what it was. But I do try to operate with a song in my heart , enjoying most everyday, and with a smile on my lips, finding some fun and enjoyment in the things that pass my way, and trying to help others enjoy themselves as well.

That was the extent of my comment.

If it was seen in other than that manner, Please forgive me that was not the intent.

Mondays are 'Show and Tell'  .. wwell.. to me anyways.. usually the day after the trip to the local hobby store.  This time.. I only spent .. $45 dollars.  Considering it was a 15 minute stay in the store.. well it worked out to $3 dollars a minute.  Of course I went with intentions to buy, I still needed and wanted certain items.~

One of them.. of which I am excited is  the  Model Railroder's Guide To Steel Mills.. by Bernard Kempinski.  Good reading I'm sure.  One of the things I will be looking for in this book is listed on the back of the book.  *Compressing a steel mill scene  Now that caught my eye.

100_1062.jpg picture by Blazzin55

Aside from the book.. I really needed the cutting blade.  From what I've read in other posts.. you need one..!  I'm actually at the point where I have to cut some platforms.. and 'compress' the train station platform here and there.. so I also needed to cut a straight line.. at a true 'right angle'.  Although.. Jeanne said.. the day before.. "Can't you use one of your two Dremel's"  ..  'Well no hon.. well not a straight line.. and what if it doesn't match up?  I'll know !.. I"ll seeee it." ..  and I picked up .. just one more station platform.. I figured I might need some 'Gantry/catwalk' somewhere in a compressed steel mill.  lol.  For me.. I think it was a good catch all in all.. oh.. I also picked up another 3 bottles of Krystal Klear.. I just love that stuff.

Good mornin', bucket of coffee and stack of pancakes... Good to see people making their way back in here. Saw the lights on last night, stopped briefly at the take-out window.

DER JOHN: I promise, I WILL get those articles scanned for you today. I had events to cover for w**k both Sat. and Sun. morning, ended up resuscitating and then using the mower Sat. afternoon, pruned trees/shrubs, fubar-ed my knee somewhere/somehow along the way; and Loving Wife is in a frenzy looking for anything/everything to sell at "the mother of all garage sales" in June. In other words, anything I would have WANTED to do this now past weekend...welp, those plans were scrapped forthwith, and post-haste!!!!

JEFF: I see Silly Pundit chipped-in his "ex-pert" analysis of your Geep thirty. I think you handled him rather well. And...you're right, the non-flash pics look better. But, who is Silly Pundit, or I, or anyone...to tell you how you HAVE to paint/weather YOUR stuff? Guys like THAT really, really, really tick me off.

TODD: I think supervising JEFF's wash rack is too big a job for just one guy... I'll hire-on as your assistant, and I'll be sure to bring my camera Smile,Wink, & Grin; well...you know, for Total Quality Improvement purposes...Whistling

Welp, crap. It's almost 11, I've got "content" to process from the weekend, Rerun needs his late-morning trip outside, I've got a dozen things on the "gotta do list" THAT I couldn't get to over the weekend; and a soccer match to shoot later this afternoon.

*sigh* This is one of them days where I gotta hit the ground running. I think I got the "hit the ground" part down pat. The "running" has thus far eluded me...

A good, SAFE day to everybody, welp...except THAT Silly Pundit!

 Good Afternoon,

I have been waiting all day long for a certain call to come, but so far in vain. It´s about a job, so I am pretty down, now that it did not come. The only call I got was from my debt counselor, who told me that the foreclosure procedure will now be started. Does not make me feel good. But when I compare my little misery with what Jeff has to put up, I don´t feel that bad.

Jeff - Petra and I know quite well, what you must endure. Whenever I am in the forum, she asks me "how´s Jeff?".  We both admire your will power and tenacity. If we were anywhere near by your place, be sure that there would be a constant flow of goodies to your house - she does that with her brother Smile. You are in our Angel

Zoe, as supper time is approaching, do you mind that all I´ll have is some coffee? Thank you.

I have come across a problem I did not foresee. The wall brackets I intended to mount my layout on are either too short and thus cannot sustain the weight or to big, so I can´t fit my desk underneath the layout. I will have to go for the short ones, and add a set of legs, which then will have to rest on my des. Not a nice solution, but the only way I can figure to go for the moment.

Barry - down time is over, where art thou, my friend?

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with NYS Maple Syrup (I hear it is a great year...), and my dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug Please and Thank You! I'll go over and chat with Jeffrey in the corner booth for a while.  I admire his tenacity!

My son called me late last night and wants me to go get a cart for his lawn tractor at a local farm store.  just waiting for him to call with more directions.  I have to do the Treasurer's Report for the MLK Committee meeting tonight and I hope to get going on the first mowing of the lawn today. Won't be much MRRing I guess.

Guess I best get moving, the day continues to unfold.

Later!

Sir Madog
Jeff - I saw, that our friend has commented on the weathering of your loco - just grin and bear it. Whenever I use the flash, I find that the colors come out differently. My BR loco appears to be really blue, but it in fact it is a muddy green/blue. I have a small table tripod, which I use. The color and also sharpness comes out much better, when I use longer shutter speeds and no additional light.

Nah, they don't bother me. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. I have these three rules I operate by and one of the comments posted listed all three. #1: It's my railroad, #2: I make the rules whether real or imagined, #3: If you don't like the way I run it or do things consult rule #1. Now, as far as shutter speeds go, I don't have anything that allows me to use a shutter opening of more than 2 seconds (night setting) with no more light than that provided by a small penlight. An additional problem is that camera is the one I busted last night. I was able to find one just like it on Overstock.com and order it on under 'Bill Me Later' so I can get the camera now and enjoy it, use it, etc while I pay for it and all the other stuff I order in $10 to $20 monthly payments on the total amount, whatever that may be. Some online creditors are wonderful once you get a credit line established and this is about the best plan I've come across. No credit card numbers, account numbers or other personal information  is exchanged online or over the phone. I order, they purchase, the site ordered from ships and I get a paper bill in the snail mail which in this case I can take up to a year (or longer) to pay for this particular item in installments if I wish. As for the wash rack, I don't have it set up yet but I have all the pieces required for it. I even have a welding crew for the machine shop complete with a flashing arc, work crews, train crews, etc, etc.  Most of these things are still in their packages as I haven't yet gotten to that point in construction.

LSWrr
Jeff, sorry to hear your still having foot problems.  I need to go to the VA and get mine looked at; I can predict the weather better than the six o’ clock news, plus I’m starting to have other problems.  So we really need to see these wash rack personnel on your layout.

I know exactly what you mean about being able to predict the weather. I've been able to do that for years courtesy of injuries to my feet, back and neck. I have a long laundry list of problems you wouldn't like to have. If you wish to know what they are I can send it in a PM but I won't list them here. I'm sure there are many who would be thankful for that. Most of them are problems I've had to live with since early childhood. You see, the old saying about no matter how bad you think you have it there's always someone who has it worse is true. The only reason I've gotten as far as I have is due to good old fashioned Native American stubbornness and a never say die attitude which I still have. Even with all the problems I have that limit what I can do with my hands I still strive to improve. Many people (mostly my doctors, family members, friends and neighbors who are aware of my mental and physical limitations consider my struggle to be a classic example of what you can do when life hands you several tons of lemons. If I can make do then there's no reason they can't overcome their own problems. Now, I've gone on for much too long so I'll just shut up now and take a seat in the corner booth.

Good morning All,

I'll try to catch up posts tonight but for now I'll have a regular and a doughnut to go.

Savannah was a mixed weekend with some engine troubles, but Pocono went well with my oldest completing VSCCA drivers school with flying  colors (finished 4th in the student race). The Morgan we thrashed on to finish in time ran like a champ and the owner was delighted with the changes. We're all abck at it this morning getting ready for the travel team to get back from Savannah with the rest of the cars that were out.   CUL, J.R.

Morning ya'll

Cleaned out my bench last night and found my miter box, a few more Kadees and a working athearn mini-bulb (needed one for my F45). I went to put it in which would have been a couple minute job at best. when I put it on the track to test, the rear truck became unsoldered to the motor decoder so it made noise but didn't move. So took the truck out and re-solder it and test it. When I picked it up (holding the shell over the weight), the entire chassis fell to the floor while I had the shell in my hand (pinching the weight from the inside wasn't good enough) and all the wires came dis-connected or broke. Re-solder and re-connect them, again only to have a wire disconnect and break off from the 9-pin plug to the DH120 for the motor. I managed to re-connect it and used the soldering iron to make sure it wouldn't disconnect from the harness. After about 2 hours of re-wiring that I finally got it back to 100%, after a job that should have taken 5 minutes.

Jeff, Out of curiousity, what is the timeframe for your L&A? Would you be able to get a picture of the GP30 without flash?

John, So I'm not alone in that sentiment. I hope it shows up today or tomorrow, it said arrived in destination country on the 8th.

  "Good Morning  Coffee~ Please/thanks~"

yes.. good morning to all~  Shame about the weather here though.  Yesterday.. cold.. damp.. streets all wet looking like if they're 'welling up' with water.  Then windy.. all afternoon long.. then it stopped.  It had been cloudy all day long.. no sun.. just yuk~.  Nothing like me complaining about the HEAT last week.  I never did a re-cap on that.. but if you remember.. it was cold. 50 degrees that morning with my wife Jeanne telling me to make sure all the windows and door are open. because of the Santa Ana Winds coming.     Well if you remember, hot winds blowing last week.. yeah yeah.. 87 degrees is no biggie.. but when you have a 25 mile an hour wind blowing and the air/wind is 87 degrees .. well its a furnance blowing on you.

Galaxy.. I hear ya.. ah man do I ever~  I was laid up for an ez 4 months with something similiar.  Nothing seemed to help.. and if it did.. it wasn't lasting.  If it wasn't for ebay.. a forum.. military channel.. history channel and a few soap opera's.. I might have gone over the edge.  Well maybe I did.. as far as buying N scale stuff.   Jacuzzi soaking was the best.. seemed to get all the stiffness out of my back.  It had helped me get through the winter.. but that was about it.  Now I don't mean to give advice.. esp some of us.. our age and brackets.. seem to want to talk about medicine.. and the likes.

I won't.  But I'll say this..   YOu need a new bed.  No 'Pillow Top Matress' .. if you actually read about Pillow Tops.. you'd swear you just read a 'dis-claimer' or something.  They really aren't good for the back.  But a hard NEW matress is/will be the cheapest and the best price for your back... period.  I wish you a speedy recovery.

Now as far as my layout.  I said to Jeanne.. I wonder if these guys at the diner.. have bets.. with odds.  "I bet Keith gets to the track laying.. and quits."...

Hardly the case.. I can't even figure out whats next.  I even had Jeanne write down a list of all the things to do.  And then asked her to help me prioritize the whole list.  But believe it or not.. I might have some pics next week.. lol.  For some reason.. Todd's remarks .. keep haunting me~  "Don't Rush IT'  who's rushing.. I'm in a daze.  Argh~

Good morning all. Biscuits and gravy please. Coffee too thank you.

Another great looking sunny day today. I must first do the books for the church, then I have to take mom to the tax guy to do her taxes. Then work at 5. Doesn't look good for MRR. Maybe tomorrow if I get the sump pump plumbing straightened out.

Jeff- Looks like you're on a string of "need to replace it"'s here. Luckily, you should only have 1 more and let's hope it's cheap or no need to replace.

I seem to have missed a scuffle. I take it someone took issue with a weathering job and Vinnie had to step in? Hm, imagine that.

Lee- Great pictures. You have been busy. Looks great.

I, for one, have no intention of working at Jeff's wash rack washing locomotives. I am above that kind of activity. I...., will be applying for a Supervisors position. Knowing how many of the youth of today are, someone needs to insure the young lady does a good job and should be there at all times to provide on the spot corrections and training.

Especially on the lower parts of the trucks. They always seem to get neglected.

Have a Great Day!!!

Good morning.  Its a nice cool/sunny morning.

Well the long weekend is over, no MRR forum that is.  I didn't do much other than train hunt. Got some good video, and pictures.   Now its off to work in a hour.  OH  BOY!!

I did get a video of a NS coal drag coming by, with kids playing on the track.  They waited till the train was a few seconds away then moved out of the way.  I will try to get that video up later tonight.

Jeff........The engine isn't to bad.   Here's a CSX that is in bad shape.  I got the picture over the weekend.

Keith, I had the opportunity to visit the local steel giant during a shut down period.  Big is an understatement. I use to enforce pollution regulations on the same plant.  It’s amazing how things work in a steel mill.  Not to mention the miles and miles of tracks is a 30 to 50 acre area is mind boggling.

Jeff, sorry to hear your still having foot problems.  I need to go to the VA and get mine looked at; I can predict the weather better than the six o’ clock news, plus I’m starting to have other problems.  So we really need to see these wash rack personnel on your layout.

 Good Morning Everyone,

it is a sunny, but cold and windy day - nature is about 3 weeks back from normal, due to the harsh and long winter we had. Finished my today´s HD list early, went to my Doc to find out about my back - it is a pulled muscle, not more, Needed to renew my prescription of my cardiac stuff, so that will take me now all the way into summer.

Chloe, I´ll have a coffee and a breakfast bagel with it, thank you.

RobSign - Welcome back. You´ll find that this place has not changed much over recent months. We now have a permanent track for the month, which limits the number of necessary moves. Ah, well, we still have the occasional pie fight, especially when Sam, Barry or Todd are around Smile,Wink, & Grin

Nothing specific planned for the day, so I stay here at the RC and wait for some of you to drop by.

Have a good one!

Yup I cruise through every once in a while. Been busy at work and at the museum so hardly get much forum time in. Nice to see a few of the old old guard still out and about.
