10,000th! I've really missed this forum!!
Posted by loathar on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 7:35 PM

Just noticed I've clicked over 10,000 posts!! I've been so busy with my job, business and life I haven't had much time for my layout or checking in on the greatest forum on the internet!Thumbs Up
I kind of put the layout on hold to accumulate materials to insulate and finish my out building. No fun railroading in a cold, damp building. Getting a lot of free stuff from my construction job.Thumbs Up Pink foam and lumber out the wazoo!
Still buying kits and working on them as time allows.
I see a bunch of new names on the board. Welcome to all of you! GREAT place to hang out.

Anywho...Just thought I'd say hi and let everyone know I'm still alive and well and still in the Worlds Greatest Hobby!!Smile,Wink, & Grin

Hey!! Great to see you gone over the 10,000th!!Thumbs Up

Started to wonder where you went. About your outbuilding---what size footprint is that building? You got it heated yet?

My, my.

That is around 5 posts per day, every day, since you first joined the forum.

I joined around the same time you did, and I am only 9,700 posts behind you.

Congratulations.

Building is 20x20. Layout is 8x15.  I've got a couple of 110v electric heaters and a propane and kerosene back up. After I get the insulation in, I'm installing an LG PTAC unit. (the kind you see in hotel rooms)
Heat pump/Heat Strips/AC and dehumidifier all in one. (about $800) Operating cost is pretty low.
The train building is also my office for my business. (maybe I can write it off??Whistling)

Yep! 10,000 posts! I truely hope at least a "few" of them where helpful to some of you!Smile

Welcome back to the forum.  It must be nice having money to spend on trains again.  Of course, now you don't have any time to spend it!   Big Smile  I don't tend to post very often anymore because I'm actually working on this thing instead of thinking about it!

Right! Most of my excessive post count came from being unemployed, depressed and out of hobby funds.Sad
But I'm feeling MUCH better NOW!Mischief
Just have to learn the time/money/hobby balance thing now!Tongue

Loather,

I was searching for some older posts the other day.  I saw one of your many posts and wondered about you and Ivanhen.

Hey Loather, I'm one of the newbies here now, been getting lots of great help! Glad to hear things are going good, I was in the same situation a year ago, now I have a good job, and funds for this expensive hobby!

Hmmmmm.... According to my current post rate, I should see 10K posts sometime after 2035, or so.

Congrats! Thumbs Up

Welcome back Loathar, I was wondering why we haven't been seeing your Posts lately. Glad to hear it was for a good reason. I am 83 and have been retired for 27 years. Luckily, both my wife an I were teachers for over 32 years, so two pensions and two Social Security checks automatically deposited each month, make this expensive hobby, a little easier on the checking account. I am still in the 500 range as far as Posts, but I Post about 5 a day, "Jes to pass de time away". Wow! 10,004 Posts. Only Crandell has more, I think! I am so glad that a lot of us missed your terrific advice. I have a 24'x24' garage loft layout in chilllly Michigan. I also, installed the floor model "Heater-Air conditioner" with a vent out the window. I was a little afraid of a kerosene or propane heater, without proper vents. Bob Hahn

With the rate I am posting, I won´t reach the # 10,000 post before, say, 2016. There are a lot of "oldtimers" in this forum with counts way over this magic mark! Posting (and of course) reading is not only highly informative, but also addictive - that´s what my SWMBO keeps on telling me ... Smile,Wink, & Grin

Good to have you back, Loathar - I really like your posts!

Some quick math tells me that it would take me 411 years to reach 10,000 posts at the current rate I'm going, and the celebration would occur in the year 2421 at the ripe old age of 450.

Were your really gone? Actually, you were conspicuous by your absence and I was just about ready to send you a PM asking whether you were still assuming an upright position.

Is the outbuilding like an "outhouse"? Sorry, couldn't resist. But really what is an out building?
If you ran a no car train on no track, how long would it take to derail?

This is an out building. Basically a detached garage you don't park cars in.

This is what I've been so busy helping to build.

It's mostly finished and full of doctors. I'l post some finished pics next week. It has some beautiful brick and stone work on it.
