wooden car kits
Posted by wedudler on Friday, January 29, 2010 5:57 AM

I've got a La Belle car kit. I guess this kit has had many owners. Well, I built this narrow gauge car. H0n3. Smile

It was fun.

This is the car before I airbrushed and weathered it. Lettering is dry transfer from the kit.

With construction I followed the instruction sheet without problems. Problems arise when I came to coupler and trucks.

I agree, Labelle kits are very nice.  I built a couple years ago when I was in HO.  If they made them in S, I'd have a fleet of them.  They are a good way to get into scratch building wooden cars.

Enjoy

Wolfgang, you're leaving us hanging.  What were your truck and coupler problems, and how did you overcome them?

Mark, you're right! Here you're. Smile
I guess this is one of those kits who roam around for decades. We have here in Germany e.g. "blue boxes", many more in the cup board than built. I've built my kit!

When I arrived at the end of the instructions I glued the board from the kit marked as "bolster". Then came trucks and coupler to install. I had Kadee # 714 and Blackstone as well as Kadee #716. But the trucks interfered with the beams from the body and truss rods.
Well, I've got answers from people with experience. Mount the coupler to the appropriate place and then the trucks, with suitable thick wooden beams or somewhere else.

And so I did, the coupler under the body and Kadee trucks with Kadee bolster to the body too. It matches!

Well, at first I glued the Kadee bolster with CA and when I recognized that this fit, I put there more two part epoxy. For the hard operation. Here're pictures.
