Well, last year I didn't get to do as much on the Yuba River Sub as I wanted to, what with going back to teaching, but I did manage to inagurate a new passenger train, the "Prospector", pulled by--gasp!--yes, a DISEASEL!  Shock

But that did not stop me from transferring a 'new' Mikado all the way from Colorado to help with my constant locomotive shortage (yah, RIGHT! Tongue).  An ex-Denver and Salt Lake 2-8-2.

This year, I'll be getting another loco from Colorado, a 3400 Rio Grande 2-8-8-2 built in 1916.  Should arrive on the property sometime next week.

Of COURSE there will be photos.  Tongue

Have a great 2010 everyone.  Full of GREAT TRAINS!  Wink

Shock  Good Grief, a DIESEL on the Yuba River Sub!  It's a SIGN, it's a SIGN!!!  Surely the world is coming to an end!  Sad

Lots of great stuff guys. A good start on the new year.

A couple of before & after pictures in keeping with the general theme.

The old Black River Valley COOP Elevator

The 'new' Farmer's Union Grain Elevator.

Just the beginning of my cow pasture.

Hills, grass, fence, rock face, windmill and even and water tank.

Last but not least, my favorite photo for the year.

NYC E8 4089 rounding the curve near the Farmer's Union Elevator and the cow pasture on the Black River Valley Layout.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE & HAPPY MODELING!!Big Smile

Had a great time running on the Bantrak modules at the Beano Museum on Saturday, both running my steam era train, and a few other things.  Also got to make the rounds with Puddington's world traveler.

And the latest from the Puddy World Tour...

Happy New Year!

This 2009 saw the rise and fall of:

The AAT Rwy.:

Then SCRail showed up:

And now the Aiken Northern RR is the railroad I've chosen to model:

(in the above photo the town has been changed around a bit, and the farthest spur has become two spurs.)

also, a multitude of paint schemes graced my railroad equipment.

The AAT scheme:

The SCRail scheme:

And now the ANRR scheme:

Also, m,any layout plans were run through the mill beofre the current one was desided on. This plan was my original favoriter though and if it weren't for money would have been my layout of choice:

I agree.  It's a nice way to wrap up our image year, but it will be very unpleasant for those who have dial-up connections.  So, I have modified the title to reflect that problem.  Have fun, those who can enjoy this thread.

Actually, one of the reasons you don't see me on this site often is during the week, all I have access to at home is crawl up.  Even the Trains dot com home page has trouble loading, it is that bad.  Hence, I come on here when visiting the grandparents in NY or NJ and everyone is napping.  Nice to be forwarned tho.  You guys and your digital cameras always impress me.  Thumbs UpThumbs Up for all of you.Bow

I got to spend some time running trains with a special guest today.  Thought this might be a good place to share!  My two and a half year old granddaughter came over (with her family) for dinner today to celebrate the new year and as soon as she got her coat off ran over to the basement stairs and said, "Tains Gampa"!  She still needs some work on the 'r' sound.  We had to postpone the run until everyone had finished eating, but we got down there and fired up some trains.

By next year she will get to try out the throttle herself......Big Smile

All the track on the module is now painted and ready for ballast, although I need to go back and highlight random ties with powders.

Well here is something old and something new

First is a classic building from Scale Structures, 'Union Hall"...

There is still lots of work that needs to be done but it is well on its way to being completed.

Here is something new...

I weathered and added DCC to a Kato SD40. I did it following the steps I outlined in an article I uploaded to the Conrail Historical Society website.

The gist of it is I disassembled it, painted the walkways, painted the safety rails, added a scratchbuilt cab signal box (styrene and brass), Dullcoted & weathered it, added a drop-in decoder, and put it back together. The class lights were done using a silver Sharpie and the fuel caps using Caboose Red PolyScale paint. Weathering was by acrylic wash.

Now I have a pair of Kato SD40s. I matched their speed curves using CVs 02, 05, and 06... They are MU'd together now and run VERY smoothly together.

I think the weathering still needs a little touch-up. But I have the whole winter for that!

Okay Greg, nothing you run is ever that clean!

Nice work all, hopefully I have some pics in a week or so.

Sounds like a challenge, looks good! THat is the trouble now, if you don't get stuff when it is available you miss out.

Here is a bad shot of my poor excuse for a PRR Observation Coach "Tower View" using a Union Station product as a start. It is enough for me for the time being to add to the back of my T1 Broadway Limited. I plan to take a video once I finish it off.

Regards,

Nige.
