Action at Hawk Point.
Hi Driline,
The vehicles are mostly 1:83 scale, the exception is the bus at 1:76 scale - all ideal for HO/OO gauge. Kingston-Upon-Thames is the otherside of London about 40-50 miles from where I am. (A long way even by river!)

Wolfgang,
Love the snow covered tree on the roof of the Kwikee Mart. Puts the whole video in the Christmas spirit. Those people swimming in the pond earlier in the video must be freezing.

I really like the landrover. What scale are the vehicles? My brother lives in Kingston-Upon-Thames. I assume thats upriver from you?

Also I've got hold of a weathered Bachmann Coal truck, which goes nicely on the diorama:
Talking trains with one of the masters, Bob Grech. I think this is when I was talking about the interactive parts of my layout. Bob, are we ready for the thunder and lightning yet?

Hi Terry, sorry to be so late in replying, been busy with pre-Christmas stuff
The tan sedan is a '35 Ford 4-door made by Mountain States Model Works in the late 80s. It's a styrene kit, but I have not seen it in many years. Busch and CMW make similar '36 Fords if that is a look you want:http://www.walthers.com/exec/search?category=&scale=H&manu=&item=&keywords=1936+Ford&words=restrict&instock=Q&split=30&Submit=Search

The maroon coupe is a generic model that came with Honest Sams; when I bought it, Sams was a Tyco kit. I think Model Power had it for a time, but it is not listed in Walthers now. The kit included 3 cars. I repainted one in Accupaint Maroon, another in Accupaint MEC Pine Green (I model MEC). I got a bit wild with the 3ed one - chopped the top, added some body putty, cut the bumpers to make nurf bars, painted it black and added a flame job.
You have a sharp eye, that is a Hudson poster on the wall of Sam's office; it came on a sheet of paper with the kit. I scanned all the signs, cleaned them up with Photoshop and printed them on photo paper.

Unfortunately this weekend's project involves destruction, not construction. I am tearing out my exisitng N-scale layout to install some built-in cabinets and shelves which will become the new home of my On30 empire. The best of my N-scale equipment will go into storage against the day that my son has a family of his own, and might want to build a layout for his kids. The rest I plan to dispose of at local swap meets.
I have been considering this move for some time. Decided to get started now because my company always gives us the week off between Christmas and New Year's Day, and that will give me a concentrated block of time to work on it. The new cabinets will be delivered tomorrow.
I have figured out what is wrong with my brain! On the left side nothing works right, and on the right side there is nothing left!

One of California modeler Burt Poppenga's mighty CNJ 2-8-2's is about to cross the culvert over Shytz Creek on a module which comprises a portion of the large portable display layout created by members of his local club. The layout depicts mostly railroading as it was in the northeastern United States just before the Great Depression. The photo is by Burt, one of the great CNJ modeler/hobby historians of my acquaintance. He included this and several other images in his Christmas card to me.

selector It is the camera angle, Terry. I have the camera, which is a Canon Powershot, and not a videocam, held on the end of a length of wood for reach, and it is hard to control for angle in that I can't really see the viewfinder from where I must stand. So, the effect is greatly exaggerated. In the overall view below, you can see the path the train is taking. It is against the far wall on the upper curve. There it is just under 2.9%, so it is steep, but not unrealistic by any means. The camera is low by the trestle at one point, but the way I had to hold it out, clear of the structures, meant that it was tilted somewhat as well as facing upward. -Crandell

Jarrell, nice work. What came to mind was the cover of a model railroading calendar; then each month had one of the individual pictures.

Rob, your last image is a strong keeper...well done!
Hi folks great looking stuff so far, really top notch. It's been a while since I have been a regular on the forums and even longer since I have posted here, but I have a few spare moments so here are a couple to add to the weekend.

Have a good weekend folks.
As always a fantastic thread for the weekend! I always look forward to seeing everyone's modeling.
About all I have accomplished that is photogenic at the moment is to finish the basic assembly of 2 more Tichy Train Group Flat cars. Here they are on their first run around the layout.
I have 4 of the 6 now finished (except for some weathering - sometime soon).

Great work so far everyone!
Well, began my furniture factory scratchbuild today. Tonight I will begin the smooth-it lot for it. The layout is a bit messy from working with the smooth-it and plaster, but I will eventually get that cleaned up.

Thank you, John, I appreciate that. It's approx. 15'x36', with off layout staging at both ends. DJ.
Not much new here. I finished this sw from athearn the other day and is now up for sale. I tore it all apart and swapped the metal side frame for the plastic side frame trucks. I isolated and cleaned the motor and wired pickups to each side of the truck. I had an n scale decoder in it and wired the front led and was in the process of wiring and testing the back light and smoked the decoder on the rails(short). Oh well took the decoder out and wired for dc and finished weathering it.
Good job all.

Another great shot, Grampy. I think I have figured out what impresses me so much about your scenery. It stands up well to close up photography. I think my stuff looks good from 3 feet but I'm not sure the close ups would be so kind to it. I think that is the difference between good and great scenery.
Just out of curiosity, how big is your layout?

Thanks, Jarrell. I undertook several trials until I was at the point of diminishing returns. At some point the limitations of my 'apparatus' and the layout conditions meant I had to call it a video.
