Your favorite online source for NS wheel sets
Posted by Reformed Grownup on Monday, November 9, 2009 9:41 AM

I have several BB GP's and SD's that I want to upgrade to 40" NS wheel sets. (specifically Walthers part #s 53-371414 - NWSL or 369-102 Jay Bee). Walthers currently shows that both are out of stock with no "expected" date indicated...

...and so I turn to you for your recommendations...where do you turn when you look for NS wheel sets?

Thanks in advance.

I order directly from NWSL.  Check their web site, download the mail-in order form, and go from there.  Expect a considerable delay, though, because they don''t seem to keep any in stock but make a production run when enough orders build up.  Just one of the problems when dealing with a small manufacturer.

Thanks for the response. I may well end up dealing directly with NWSL, but I had hoped to find an online retailer with some in stock. I know patience is a virtue, but I'm not very good at waiting Disapprove...spoiled by the IN(stant gratification)TERNET

Does anyone else have a lead on a retailer with wheelsets in-stock?

I had hoped to find some at the Syracue train show, but there were none to be had...

The ones with the best price.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.

UPDATE: It appears tha Litchfield Station has the right wheel sets in stock. Does anyone have experience buying from them? I have never dealt with them.

My other options would be BlueRidge Hobbies - I seem to remember some negative comments about their service...It looks like Caboose Hobies also has the correct wheel sets, albeit at a premium of $3/set...

Any opinions you are willing to share?

Thanks

Yes, Litchfield is a great outfit. My good friend has had Decoder installations done by them and they've been very helpful with quick responses and info. They've given me advice even when I didn't end up ordering from them at their suggestion that I try it myself with the info. they gave me. I think you'd likely be happy with them.

Litchfield Station specializes in DCC sales and installations, so it's strange that they have NWSL wheel sets for sale.

They're one of only three DCC specialty houses that I ever deal with, primarily because they're so close to me and they ship via USPS Priority Mail.  I can get an order within one or two days if a weekend or holiday isn't involved.  Overall, a first class operation.  Bruce has answered questions for me when the manufacturers didn't respond to e-mail technical questions, and his answers were right every time.
