What!!!
Snow already?? And your just a few hours downstream from where I am! But that's okay, I like winter too.
WHAT???? Jersey got snow before Canada??? We got snow last week, about an inch actually stuck, but more than that actually fell.Last year, we got 6 inches in October. Yes, all in one day. In Jersey.
Jamie, ground cover is lookin awesome!!
Sawyer, those Geeps are lookin nice. Paint looks like it went on fine.
Well, I have officially forced myself to electrify my layout. Island Model Works lowered their price on the ALP-46 shell, as well as releasing brand new decals. They would have been out sooner, but getting the license took some time. And they say they're working on a mechanism for it. So I'll buy the shell and decals now, and maybe actually buy and airbrush and paint and decal it by the time the frame comes out...

And SC still hasn't got snow, lol.
Thanks Joe. There's some spots where you can tell the paint didn't go on completely when your face is right by the model, otherwise, it went on fine. model master is good paint, I find polly scale easier to work with.

Yeah, we've already had snow up here too.
Jamie, if you're looking for constructive critisism, I can give you some friendly advice on your scenery. First, it looks very good for a beginning attempt at scenery. My first scenery looked much worse - in part because of the bright red bushes the reason for which I've forgotten.
- Second, I'd break up the monotony of the plain grass with bushes. Other than parks, very few areas in the world are like that. You can add a sea of static grass / long weeds, totally scrap the bushes and add some small hills (just small enough to see), or add some more stuff there like railroad junk along the ROW.
I used to use bushes a lot, but I've discovered that as my technique evolved, I never use bushes like that (I do use weedy bushes and stuff - not ground foam but lichen in the wold) anywhere except for in town scenes where such bushes would be planted and trimmed - they don't exist much in the wild.
- Third, I've become very fond of my leaves. I ground up leaves in an old blender (DON'T use your mother's one for this!) and now use them as my base. Even in big grass lawns, there are leaves underneath. If the grass moves a bit during the gluing process (it always does) then you don't see the pink foam - you see leaves.
Also, they are used as the main part of the forest floor. I add some brown-ish weeds, forest clutter (leaves that were ground rather than blended, then had the big pieces sorted out), and other stuff to the forest floor, but the leaves look perfect for fall.

I'll post some photos of newly-sceniced West Canaan, NH, this weekend to show you some of what I mean.
Packers#1And SC still hasn't got snow, lol.
Oh, Rillay?!! lol
Oh, and btw, Happy Mole Day!! http://moleday.org/ We had a chem project on it, idk. We had to make a "Mole Halloween Party invitation" and explain why it's celebrated from 6:02am to 6:02pm on October 23. Apparently its cause the equation is 6.02x10^23. Wierd, who makes a holiday for a unit of measurement?...
I've decided to just delete the white stripe from my paint scheme and go with white numbers on the cab and ANRR on each side of the long hood. gets the locos into service quicker and also has them looking better than having a white stripe that's about 3-5 coats thick.
Now all you'll need to do is paint the cab black and you'll have the WRS Phase IV scheme!
From left to right: Phase I, Phase IIa (with a black roof; Phase IIb has a red one), Phase III, and Phase IV. (Please ignore the backdrop that needs paint...)
Nah; all my battery boxes are black since they are part of the frame which seperates from the body on the Atlas and Proto 2000 units that make up my fleet. No masking required, plus they look good as part of the frame.
Progress from this weekend:
- My fascia panels are installed and once the touch-up paint dries, I can mount the reversing switch, bill box labels, and Digitrax UP5 throttle ports, then wire up the Loconet bus. I'll post some photos when they're all done.
- West Canaan is *almost* done. The paint on Main Street is drying, then I need to weather them with an airbrush, add stripes, and fix my tripod so I can get you guys some good photos!
Sounds good tyler. And I used to leave 'em black, but figured might as well go ahead and paint 'em red and see how that went. Went pretty well.
Well, driving home got an idea in my head for something to do after the 4x8 instead of expanding it to a shelf. More will come as this idea gathers momentum. it's still a long ways off from even being started though, as the 4x8 is a long ways off from the point where i would even allow myself to really start this project.
Anyways, I will hopefully make more progress on yard ballasting next week and saturday (working at my church's harvest festival that night). And next Sunday is the TALLADEGA race (love that superspeedway). I'll probably have the truck series race on saturday while I'm ballasting.

How about a bit of an update vid (and yes, I know my head is cut off):

And I passed the driver's test today !! Of course, it doesn't do anything till it turn 16 in June...
Here's what I've been up to recently...
Saw the other pics in WPF tyler, that town is coming along very nicely!
Tyler, I concur with Sawyer; it looks excellent!!
Thanks for the kind words, Joe and Sawyer!

modelbnsferHey, Are you guys all teen modelers because I was surprised they had teen modelrailroading 09 post on here. Taylor
yeah man, all teenagers in this thread.
Thats awesome, I thought I was like the only one on this forum. Do you guys do this once a month open a new thread?
modelbnsferThats awesome, I thought I was like the only one on this forum. Do you guys do this once a month open a new thread? Taylor
Yeah, used to be just one continous thread; now there's a new one every month.
I needed to take a picture today for an article I wrote for the TAMR MRN column, and took more than enough. So, how about some railfanning of my river diorama? N-joy!
Yes, we start a new thread every month because big long threads (50+ pages) clog up the Kalmbach servers and slow the whole forum down.
Do you have any photos of your layout you could post? I'd love to see them!

Here's a new video (finally!) from my HO scale White River Southern Railroad.
Railfanning West Canaan - You'll see through freight CDWJ blast through town, then watch some switching action provided by local LEWC. You can find the WRS website here if you haven't seen it already.
Enjoy!
Thats cool and your layout is really nice.
Oh ok and um I will try and get some up here when I can, Its not very good, Its a little 4x8 but its my layout.. Your layout is nice by the way, I went to your website.
Taylor, my layout is also a 4x8
Tyler, excellent vid!
WRS is getting a new loco, but that's being kept secret until it arrives on the railroad, painted and everything... so stay tuned.
