When you first get on to the magazine page and you've entered your password, look towards the top and you will see a narrow gray bar. All the way on the left side it should say "Welcome Trainfan1221. Look all the way over to the rightside and you will see "Help: Update Profile: Logout. Click on "Update Profile". When the screen opens, scroll down and you will see a lot of blank boxes that are "OPTIONAL" for you to fill.

My suggestion is that if any of us are concerned about privacy, leave the other boxes blank and just fill out the Hobbies and Bio categories with very basic info. Then when you post a question; a modeler can quickly check your profile to gauge what type of reply to give you. [:)][;)][8D][8)]

Hello guys & ladies,

I'm sure many of us have experienced the following: A question is posted, and you diligently strive to help the poster with info that you think is helpful.

Before answering it, you click on the member's profile and basically it's blank. You go ahead and answer the person's question only to find out:

[1] That his/her interest lay somewhere else, so your answer is not helpful.
[2] The poster only needed basic info and didn't need a page full of details. (Yes, I've done this!)
[3] A "Newbie" (beginner) that didn't need a lot of the technical jargon you replied with.

I'm simply suggesting that we Edit our Profiles by going to the "More About Me" category, and just add in for example:
"I'm a 40 something BNSF modeler", "SP fan", CSX fan, 50ish Baby Boomer - Northern Pacific modeler, 30 something Alco steam fan, Senior - specialty in electronics, 60 something-L&N 1970s modeler, etc,......You get the picture.

Follow it with:
HO scale. N scale. TinPlater. On3 scale. HOn3 scale. #1 scale. etc, (LIst: DC or DCC)
[1] '1x'15 shelf point to point industrial switching layout. Era: 1940s,
[2] '4x'12 layout double track main with continuous loop- freight & passenger.
[3] No layout yet, just working on locos and rolling stock.

Keep the info "minimal" and "model railroad related" as we all are concerned about potential abuse and most of us do value our privacy. This would not be at all intrusive. [8)]

No need to reveal your life's story or family details but just the basic info of modeling interest so we could better focus our replies by "trimming down" or "detailing up"our responses as needed to help each other.
