Just dragging dropping in for a JR Regular and a Tim Hotons Oat Cake to go. Nearly time for Ellen(MIL)'s weekly hair appointment and then we go to lunch. Sunny day, so yard work this p.m. Progress is beingmade, glad to say, but there is a way to go yet; on several fronts. Maybe some mrr time this evening. TTFN.

Mornin' everyone!
Going to be a nice, sunny, and warm day here in the Finger Lakes. Currently 72°F with a high this afternoon of 81°F. So I'll set my sights on weeding the garden and getting a few other things done outside for at least part of the day.
Flo I'll have some raisin bran cereal and a cup of dark roast coffee this morning. I'll be at the Rivet Counter with Barry and John.
Jeffrey glad you have a restful (aka: boring) day yesterday......... A few of those in a row and your foot might heal up....? Adding 1000 gals of H2O to the pool? I'd say it must be hot and dry around your parts..........
I'd best be getting on with the day if I am to get anything done around here.
Catch you all later!

Mornin Sweet roll and a bug mug of coffee please. Boy, I couldn't find the old diner. I just kept wandering around the yard looking then decided to stop in here. Now I understand. Of course I had to work Wed night and went to bed because I had to get up early Thurs to have Brenda at the Hospital by 6 am yesterday for her Heart Cath. All day for that, got home in evening and went to the restaurant to get her supper and ended up behind the bar. Yes behind Zoe, not in front. I felt bad as she's at home with a hole in her artery and just a clot keeping her from bleeding out in a few minutes. They put me in a rock and a hard place and she was doing well and had already said I could go see if they needed help but I said no I wanted to stay and take care of her. That didn't happen. One of the guys at the bar took her food to her and told her what happened. Anyway I have No idea about what went on since last time I checked in Wed afternoon I think.
Crandell- I'm spoiled. This Forum allows us to chit chat largely off topic and build rather tight friendships through this thread. For that I am grateful, very grateful. As I've said before, it's just like a MRR club or a visit to the LHS. Not all conversation is trains. As you spend time in this hobby you naturally build friendships with fellow MRR‘s and this forum allows that to happen. You folks provide this to us for free even if you don't subscribe to MR mag ( I do) and it is greatly appreciated by me and I‘m sure others. My two cents, but if we are required to move occasionally to really nothing more than clicking a different Thread, I for one am willing to do what it takes to keep the diner open and available as opposed to the alternative. I wasn't around for the other versions of software so I can't comment on them, but I can't imagine a software change done solely for the free users. It had to have some financial gain or savings to the Publishers. As time goes on the Forum itself grows and takes up more space etc and we are just one section of that. Maybe the software isn't up to the task or the servers aren't either way but in todays economy, and magazine sales may not be effected as much as I would assume, but never the less I would think the company would hesitate before sinking money into a free forum server at this time unless it serves some financial gain or stability. I know I wouldn't. I say all that to say thanks for what you and others do to keep this forum and specifically this thread alive. Stop in more often and have a cup on us to relax. And bring some photos of that great layout of yours the walls in this place are a bit bare.
Well, after all that I forgot what was up. I do recall crossed fingers and are still in order for Ulrich, and Bama needs to be added to the list as well. Even though I was "force retired" a few years ago, I count my blessings that it was a "retirement". At least I have something coming in. Not enough on its own, but at least I have something to take the sting out of having to finding another career type job. I at least have enough to cover the basic bills (mortgage, lights, groceries) I just need something to cover the other things in life. Repairs, niceties and the black hole of money affectionately called Toddland (of which I'm king).
Brenda's fixin to take her bandage off and take a shower. According to the instructions she can. I know, I know. This thing happens thousands of times a day to millions of people a year, but it's an artery,it's her, and it makes me nervous.
Have a Great Day!

A strong coffee in a SOUTHERN mug, please & thanks.
Looks like some busy folks around here, except ***Jeffrey who doesn't have nearly enough to do. Serisouly, it's great you're able to help your folks out like that.
***Corey, good luck on that building. Post pics along the way if you can.
The little Bach Docksider I bought for me, so it is N scale. Just for fun, I ran my current version (with all tha black fidly gearing) around the layout last night and it only got caught up in one crossing. I didn't expect it to make it do that well.
Won an item for the wife this morning...."(HO) IRS building on fire". It will give her extensive Fire Department someplace to go roast marshmallows at and not have to actually work on putting out the fire. Also bought a batch of 50's - 60's cars to help fill out her layout with.
Off to do critter rounds. Have a great day all.
Rob
Well its lunch, and not to many people in here. Well I will take a hotdog, and fries. Oh and a sweet tea.
I've been working on this EX. Rock Island car all morning, and some last night. Its about done. Maybe a few touch ups. Its been faded, a good used look, rusty, dirty, you name it!! I added some outside shots, since I posted this car in the WPF.

I will be back in later. Have a good afternoon.

Afternoon guys. Well the job search continues, I've got a few markers called in, but still nothing definite. I do have some good news, my car is officially paid off! So that's one less debt that I owe. Nothing much happening around here, going to try to get some railfanning done this afternoon if I can, and get ready to go and work on our house tomorrow (remodelling is a slow, but well-worth-it, process). Still got the BB Athearn GP40-2 sitting in 91% alcohol, probably going to attack it this afternoon with an old toothbrush and take whatever I can off, then go from there.
Since its lunch time, I guess I'll have two hot dogs, order of cheese fries, and a RBF. I'll be in and out today for sure and keeping tabs on things, if railfanning goes well, I'll do my best to post pictures.
Well, soccer camp was AWESOME this week. I learned a lot and have some drills to practice to get better. I can't wait for fall soccer this year, then JV soccer in the spring. the one thing that could keep me from playing JV is too much schoolwork.
I will probably replan my layout yet again, because it looks really bare as is. I think I can get a dbl. track mainline going and model Mullins as the beginning of a branch from Mullins to Marion with a connection on the opposite end to Florence. This way, I can run two trains around at once when I want, and still have some fun switching operations.

Bad day yesterday here in Mich as a car with five teenagers in it went around a grade crossing gate and was hit by an Amtrak train. All five were killed as the train was moving at 67mph and people see things like this and yet they will never learn. I don’t mean to sound heartless because it was a tragedy and one of them was a 14 yr old girl. Sorry about the downer.
Best to all on sick call and those recovering

Yeah Duke, I've read the post on the kids getting taken down. Seems that they stopped at the crossing, then drove through the gates and got crammed. I know that is a pretty bad to say, but the honest truth. Well, nothing much happening here, kinda waiting for the local boys to come and drop their "normal" string of cars in the siding hear near the house and then for CSX to come and pick them up later.
Well all, that's it for now.
Well I've done it again. I have about 9 1/2 square inches of useable space on the old modelingdesk. Good news is I don't think I've ruined the water tower yet.
Robby- You've done it again.
Jeff- Sounds like it's a good thing you replaced that airconditioner when you did! I don' t think the trailer would be bearable if it conked out and too hot to replace it on a day like today. Best just to piddle with the layout and watch the heat through the window.
Gotta check the bay and see if I won my two beer cars. I doubt it as I only bid a nickel above the starting bid of $4.95. I already have 2 Pearl cars and don't really need the Hamms car but I liked he beer. So....... Then get cleaned up for work.I'm Pizza boy tonight and they have a new pizza. A Horseshoe pizza. Pretty good it is. I have to learn how it's made so I can do it tonight. They gave out samples wednesday when they created it and I know at least 2 will be ordered tonight on it's oh-fish-ul de-but.
I doubt if many of you are familiar with a horseshoe sandwich if you're not from or have never been to central Illinoiz. It's 2 pieces of toast with usually a hamburger patty on each, (many places also have different meats choices such as ham, and boneless chicken strips being the most popular), placed side by side on a platter then cover with french fries and cheese sauce. Now that's where the big difference comes in. The cheese sauce. My favorite was a place called the Fleetwood where I worked after High School. It's gone now but their cheese sauce was a Rarebit style sauce. Man I miss that. Many places just open a can of cheese sauce and that ain't so good.
BamaCSX83 Yeah Duke, I've read the post on the kids getting taken down. Seems that they stopped at the crossing, then drove through the gates and got crammed. LOOK! DARWIN NOMINEES!
I'm sorry. Diving in front of a train is stupid. Stopping, seeing the gates down, and then deciding to dive in front of the train, is asking for ridicule.
How soon you think the parents will be suing because the train wasn't cearly marked as coming?

Hm. I won. If I'd really wanted it I would have lost.
FlashwaveHow soon you think the parents will be suing because the train wasn't cearly marked as coming?
Don't give them any ideas.
Seriously though, I feel for their families and especially for the engineer who quite probably saw their faces right before impact and will live with that vision. It is a tragedy no matter the reason.
Good afternoon all, Chloe? Flo? Zoe? whichever/whomever...a double bacon cheeseburger, basket of fries and a large Coke please and thankyou...
TODD: I would be losing what's left of my mind. Our very best wishes for you and Brenda. I'm supposin' the docs have a plan of action in mind? Hopefully sooner than later.
JEFF: You've got the extreme heat, we're finally drying out from a series of monsoons this morning. I finally got to bed around 0300. By 0400, the weather radio was going nuts, and pager tones all over the scanner upstairs for counties under T-storm warnings. 0500, we get the "send out the storm watch teams" page. 0700, we get an automatic alarm at the school. HEAVY rains (couldn't see across the street) and lightning played hell with the electronics, thus tripping the alarm, which naturally had "cleared" just before our arrival. More monsoons off and on throughout the morning, standing water in the yard, Flash Flood Warnings... Now the sun is out, and it is getting kinda warm again.
MORGAN (I think it was), on the news, I keep hearing surveliance (sp.) cameras "clearly show the gates were down/lights flashing." It's being chalked up as "a very bad decision." That's the understatement of the day. Apparently, they drove around a vehicle that was stopped...I've also heard the driver had his/her license suspended. What can ya do?
ROBBIE P: As usual, and awesome job! I remember those cars well, though it seemed like the North Yard in Cedar Rapids got more of the white ones. I'll tack up a couple shots if you want to try another one at some point...
Hey, it looks like I might have some decent light to work with...maybe I'll shoot some stuff I've been w**king on over the past couple of weeks for you-guy's amusement...

So, I love Social Networking. I just found an old friend I'd lost touch with on Facebook.
Chris- Thanks, she's fine. The test came back great and the heart doc explained why he wanted to do the cath "just to be absolutely positive" even though the previous tests apparently should showed all good. No mention of what the pains are from, just her ticker and arteries are all good strong and clear. Like I said there probably was, or is, nothing to worry about as far as the bleeding from the incision goes, I'm just a Nervous Nelly when it comes to her. (chuckle) the instructions were "if the bleeding starts again apply pressure and call 911. Tell them she just had a heart cath and you'd be surprised at how fast someone will get there." Comforting.
EDIT: LOL! That reminds me she said this morning that last night while I was asleep she awoke to me with my hand on her bandage like I was applying pressure but I wasn't. I guess reading about Ray's Boy Scout events has rubbed off a bit. Be Prepared!
I have the front half of the M.T. Arms Hotel in at the back of the layout.
TODD: Hey, good to hear, and....I'd forgotten about the cath, now the "hole in her artery" thing all makes sense. I was thinking of far more dire circumstances than THAT... Yeah, you can rest easy my friend
As for doing medical procedures in your sleep... my wife has woken to find me performing a head-tilt, chin-lift maneuver on her. Its used to open the airway on unconscious patients. It lifts the tongue out of the back of the throat (#1 airway obstruction)...and relieves SNORING...
For kicks, grins, and giggles... I'll tack up a couple shots of the CNW Airslide I was w**king on. Thanks to Oddballs Decals, it has the correct color/size herald on the side now ( Walthers...)
Maybe later I'll bring in the Domino Sugar hopper pics...
***EDIT*** Good Grief! Now how in the heck did I get the same side shot twice???
Here's a shot a guy I know got today from his porch. Its a K&K #39 engine. It's a Knox & Kane ex WM GP9r. The K&K is or was a tourist RR, & the loco was in an engine house fire. Supposedly it's to go to the Georges Creek RR.
Todd..............Thanks for the comments. I still gotta do another car. I will work on it tomorrow.
Chris...........Thanks for the shots. I will have to keep them in mind. Also great looking hopper.
Robby: Is/was that GP9r in operable condition? That would look amazing in any scale!
Spent the day outdoors doing some gardening---we have fresh Tomatoes, Lettuce, and we're seeing some corn developing---this last is experimenting---never done growed any corn before!

Good Evening,
ROBBY P: Thank you! I feel like I just got an "A" from the teacher! I saw your CNW box on "theBay," I hope it goes high for ya...
A zero-energy day here today... will take THAT editor her pics tomorrow....
Pushing my luck a bit, here's the Domino Sugar hopper...BOTH sides this time and even the top.
For a "half-vast" project...it didn't turn out too badly, I guess. I took a B&O hopper by Robins Rails (theBay is a great place sometimes), and tried to remove just the BeanO lettering... for a quick "down and dirty" job without having to repaint the whole thing. Well...that didn't work quite so good, so I ended up having to try and match the original gray. The only decals I could find were for a 40' Airslide...so tried to keep as much of the original data information as possible. The Rivit *** would rip me for this one...but dagnabit, I'M happy with it...
Just a quick stop this evening, Chloe - how about a go cup of hot cocoa, please? Thanks!
Robby, great job - but I think Todd (or more exactly, Mother Nature and the CNW) has/have laid down the gauntlet with those photos...
Sorry to hear about those kids, Duke. I would be inclined to agree with a number of the comments, though - should've been *very* unavoidable, alas. My for the engineer and for the kids' families, who are left to deal with it all. By the way Duke - good to see you woke up, and didn't get left behind in the old Diner when they hauled it off to the crusher...
Todd, so you were 'practicing' in your sleep? I can understand your concern for Brenda, though.
Chris, are you sure you were doing that maneuver in your sleep? Hope your weather radio gets all those alerts done and out of its system by tonight. Great job on your covered hoppers, too! Are those the Rapido poles-and-phone-wires (the ready-to-plant ones)? Nice job on the photos - looks very much like a prototype photo, IMHO!
Jeff - an excellent day to stay hidden under the A/C inside! Nice job on your motel with the weathering - maybe you could rename it the "C.D. Arms Motel"?
Tonight I had a coupon/envelope (some kind of promotion thing they put in everybody's mail slot at w**k) for Texas Roadhouse (restaurant), and was gonna go by for dinner (had been there with my daughter, SIL and TWMWGS for my (belated) Father's Day dinner). However, when I came in the door, there is a huge long line of people, plus about a third of the seats in a side waiting room were filled). Sorry, but I am NOT into half hour waits to eat dinner. Left, and went to O'Charley's, where I was promptly seated (no waiting) and where I know the best items - plus, they had a 7 oz top sirloin on sale at $2.00 off the usual price. Much better deal for the money (and no wait...).
Also went by Target (or Tar-zhay, as some friend kid about saying it) to get a baby shower for some friends who are expecting a baby this autumn/fall (boy). Finally found one of the items on the registry list printout (they have strange numbering on their list - vs. the UPC or bin ticket #'s).
After I get my hot cocoa here, I'll be heading by H-L to see about some 'brick red' paint for a building or two (40 percent off coupon this week), and then home. Need to put the C&O gondola in the 91 percent bath. Wondering what kind of container to use for that... guess I could use the new Pyrex type baking dish, but I'm a little leary of tying up a cooking dish that long (just in case).
Got word that the seller on the Medusa Cement kit got my money order, so I might be getting it next week. But for now, some buildings and some weathering to do first! I think we're supposed to have some rain come through tonight late (1 a.m. or so).
By the way, anybody else having their posts only taking you to the top of your post's page when you hit the 'post' button, instead of to the top of your own post, like it used to do? Or is that just me?
Prayers for healing, for family members recuperating, and for good health and a good night's sleep.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Barry............Use to be. They are sending it to Maryland to get redone. Thats a CSX line Pittsburgh/Baltimore where the picture came from. A guy that use to come in here "Mitch aka The Donk" has found several pictures of the engine in use, and burned up. Some good pictures on rrpicturearchives.com of the engine.
Jim..............I have another boxcar ready to get "rusty"!!!!
'Ello again, Chloe? a RBF please over here at the Rivit Counter...thankyamuch.
JIM: I'm humbled by your "humble opinion!" The poles are the time-honored Atlas telephone poles. I sliced off one crossarm/pole, dragged the razor saw along the pole for wood grain, painted/weathered, and wa-la...a pole line for the "photo track." The blue "sky" is the wall of my RR room. Looking at the photos gives me a glimmer of hope for when the layout is finally reality. Oh yeah, no...I wasn't doing the head-tilt/chin-lift in my sleep...if I'da been sleeping...I wouldn't have had to employ it!
Time to just sit back, and see whoelse makes it in this evening...
Evenin' folks!
Just a quick decafe for me as I need to head out to do some Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
Got about half of the garden weeded. Everything is growing well out there including the weeds...... It will be Monday before I can get back out there to finish the job if we don't get any hard rains. Lawn will need mowing by then as well.
Fiddled with a couple of projects in the train room and got some things done for the SciTek Quest Camp coming up in a couple of weeks. Set up the Photobucket album for photos from camp and printed some cards that tell the parents how to get to the page.
Tomorrow I will be going to a graduation party for A young man from church. He is also an Eagle Scout in my old troop and an excellent percusionist from the High School Band. I know him from a lot of perspectives as his Father is also a Scouting friend of mine. Should be fun. I can't stay very long as I have to head back out the Boy scout Camp to clean the wasp nests pout of the old speakers on the roof of the dining hall. Hopefully we can get some volume again from them.
Hope you all have a great evening!
TMarsh, your right about the parents, engineer, and for the passengers in the car. Even if they didn't make it.
Well guys, I'm hitting th ebed early. There's a training course at ITM tomorrow T 9:30, then I'm working the Pizza Plus tomorrow evening.
Evening all. Didn't get to do any real railfanning this evening, did drive over the tracks twice, but didn't see any changes. Oh well, I do have some pictures from back in May that I can post, as soon as I remember my Photobucket password...
Nothing for me tonight, well....a tall glass of milk please and thank you. I ate a huge dinner with my FIL and some friends this evening, so I'm rather stuffed. Got to enjoy some yummy Snow Crab Legs! I haven't had them in a while, so they were absolutely wonderful. Since I've had that, now I just have to get my Chinese and Mexican food fixes and I'll be good to go.
Still going to be working on the GP40-2 this weekend, didn't get to attack it with a toothbrush as planned, but that'll be all right. I'll get to it and still be able to be happy as things go. Well, I think that I'm going to go harrass my wife for a little while, so I'll be seeing you gentlemen and ladies all later.
Hello everybody....
I just got back from a quick trip to Cincinnati. 330 miles there yesterday and 300 miles back.
Here's a video of the tragic accident Duke told about. You can see the black car driving around a stopped SUV. Then it was hit.
http://www.detnews.com/article/20090710/METRO01/907100417/Video-shows-vehicle-failed-to-stop-at-train-crossing
One time I was in a cab of a GP9 that hit a pick up truck. The 2 people in the truck were very badly hurt.
I've talked to many loco engineers and they have many horrible stories to tell.
Jerry asked if I would have time for railfanning this trip and I did not. I had my camera, and at one time I wish I could have stopped to take a picture. Between Louisville and Elizabethtown, I saw a CSX train going slowly up the steep grade on the old L&N line. There was an exit, too, but by the time I saw the train I would have cut off a huge truck to get over to the exit lane. I thought better and continued up the I-65 grade.
