Long ago, Walthers made interior kits that could be use in Athearn cars. ... The parts are a combination of small milled wood parts and metal castings.

I have one for a diner that I still plan to use some day. The label says "933-950 MDC/ATH Diner Interior.", and it could be used for either an Athearn Diner or an AHM diner. The metal castings are chairs. Tables would are to be made from the wood pieces.

You can search on Ebay to find diner interiors that might work for you.

The last diner I built was from another HO kit company. I made table tops from evergreen plastic. I made little rectangle pieces and glued them just beneath the windows. The white plastic looks like tables with white table cloths on them. To better secure them to the walls, I included some bracing against the wall and under the table.
