Women Model Railroaders?
Posted by brank on Friday, June 19, 2009 3:22 PM

My wife and I had a good laugh the other day about my uncontrollable interest in Model Railroading...she's very "supportive"......then we wondered if there are any women/female model railroaders out there? Not just the wife or girlfriend helping weather a few cars or paint a building....a full-on "built from the ground-up" female Model Railroader!

I know of one.  I wonder if she will respond to your query.

There's a few on the forum here.  Also, in the past 6 month there was an article in one of the MR issues (maybe one of the special editions) of a wife and husband team in HOn3(?) and she was a NMRA Master Builder.

Many years ago MR did a layout article on a woman Model Railroader whose husband was not in the hobby.  According to the article his only involvement was helping with the wiring.

There was another one covered in a more recent article also.

Enjoy

 Hello,

I agree it would be wonderful if the wife or girlfriend would be interessted in the hobby.  I have met a few ladies that were into the hobby at train shows, but unfortunately they seem to be quite scarce.  On the bright side there is  a forum where the person that started it is a lady.  Here is the web address, unfortunately in German, and across the "pond" but here it is: http://www.razyboard.com/system/index.php?id=bahnfrau .

I believe that this hobby is great for both genders and the ladies can be a great asset to the hobby.

Check the photos here http://www.pbase.com/tracktime/bapm2009&page=all of models done by Elizabeth Allen, an SP modeler. She does excellent work. Page down a bit. It starts with this SD45: http://www.pbase.com/tracktime/image/113741346

It's really kind of hard to support your local hobby shop when the nearest hobby shop that's worth the name is a 150 mile roundtrip.

There was a nice little switching layout featured in a fairly recent MR, called something like "Wassup Dock Co". Very well done.
