Hi Gang: I painted the Cliffs Shaft mine head yesterday and did the (weathering?) today. I say weathering because it looks more like camoflaging on the prototype. Thay used local gravel and sand when they built the thing so the concrete has a very redish brown color to it. In some places there are large swatches of a liter sand color that I can only explain as a different mix to the concrete. Any way I brushed those on and while they are not exact they look all right. I also dry brushed a little of the light sand color on the whole thing. Now I think that I'll dust it lightly with some flat black and that should do it. When I get the area where it is going layed out and hopefully some information on the other stuff around the shafts I'll do the details.

I still haven't heard anything on my being able to take all my vacation in January so I'm going to continue as if it's all right. That means I have only 19 actuall work days to retirement. It's kind of scary. I need to get with the SS and see what I have to do with them. I'm not looking forward to that. Could any of you retired types let me in on what you did?

It's about time to head home. I've got to unload some trash and hit the road. Mary Ann called and said her tractor wouldn't start so I'll have to work on it when I get home. It shouldn't be to hard to find since it's down on our road by the gate.

Evening All....Its been a great day here so nice I didn't stay in to much made 2 runs to the store looks like 1 more warm day...Thought I'd drop in Sallie is napping...I'll have one of PC's surprise bags if there is any left? and a Diet Coke never could pass up finding out whats in a surprise box or sack I use to buy one once in a while at Model railroad auctions most of the time got some pretty good deals also use to order from a hobby shop down in the south somewhere for 25.00 you got 100.00 dollars worth of stuff they always turned out good got a whole set of  IC passenger cars...John...If you ask me thats some fine looking work you can make furniture for me anytime gota not let that cut into your model railroading time though....GMT...I can use just about any rolling stock and I am always looking for cabooses to rebuild I am going to try to make a IC side door caboose by cutting the sides off and building up new ones thanks for thinking of me...Well I got the layout uncovered work bench set back up and ran a coal drag for about 1/2 a hour...You all have a good night....Jerry

Well, you guys have been wondering how far I got on the benchwork.  At this point it's only roughed in, but the footprint is there and thats what I wanted to establish up front.

Here's a view you've already seen.  The door is to the left and you can see the new section starting on the right.

Busy day today, just getting online for the 1st time....6 minutes before midnight. The weather has been unbelievable here in the Northeast, but the skiiers and operators are very unhappy. We have not had even a trace of snow yet, the temp has not even gone below 26F!! I was looking at a weather stat for this area, and 5 of the last 10 years have not had a single flake of snow in November.....the climate is definetly changing.

PC: That train accident happened in April of 2003 in Kansas, at Sharon Springs. About $2M price tag, lost coal, new bridge, destroyed cars, cleanup, etc. They narrowed the gap and replaced with metal bridge for part of the span.

A cloudy day in the 60's, with a chance of a shower today. Tomorrows bout the same, but with a greater chance of  rain, and then the bottom drops out Thur. Falling temps, winter mix and a chance of snow later in the day and Fri.

Mother on her way to Indy, for her trip to Florida. It's her first time in a big one, might get interesting afore it be over. Just hope she has a smooth flight.

No big plans for me while she's gone, do hope for some train time. Best get ta choores, kids be here in a bit

Philip, yep, that Salmon yesterday was awesome good! And good fer ya too! Plenty of Omega 3 fatty acids to ward off any free radicals to causing any cancer.

I see you still working on the railroad too! Hey, give the little guy a break okay! You know child labor laws went into effect a long time ago!

Paul, Sounds like you had been making some regular progress on the mine shaft. How about a photo or two so we can see your work? Let us all know what you find out about the SS issue, I am interested to know too!

Flip, going to have to watch that VHS tape soon, been holding on to it for some time now. It should make for nice Christmas time viewing too!

Dang Lee, you got your Christmas cards done already? You sure are efficient! Well, only 28 days until Christmas.

Inch, I never get tired of viewing sunrises and sunsets. And your photo of that sunrise is just great! It reminds me of some of the great sunrises I have seen from many a campout! Cooks always get up first before the sun comes up to get the fire started and coffee a brewing ya know! I always got to sneak in a private viewing of the sunrise while everyone else was still fast asleep.

Hoople, Snow Day eh! That Seahawk game last night looked more like it was in Green bay!

Afternoon Gang:

Ryan: I'll take some pictures and E-mail them to one of you that has gotten the picture posting down and has High Speed connection. That is another reason that I don't post pics. It takes forever to send them.

I have been cleaning the shop most of the day and gathering my tools and other stuff together. It is amazing how much stuff accumulates over 30 years. You know one extra tool here and one there. I just seem to be able to find that one tool that will make my job soo much easer. The other end of the problem is going to be at home. Where do I put this stuff. My shop is already full and the work area in the basement is very cluttered. I guess I'd better get back to cleaning the basement out. Oh, I've got to clean out the up-stairs in the barn so I'll have a place to put the stuff from the basement. One thing leads to another.

The weather here has been very nice. It's sunny and in the high 70's right now. It's supposed to get very cold Wednesday night with possible freezing precepitation. Fortunately the ground will be too warm for it to freeze on the roads.

It's about time to hit the road for home. I'm going to hop on the tractor and try and finish what I was doing at the corrals before the cole gets here.
