HI ALL:

Well today is tuesday and all is well, maybe rain for the first time in a long time. 42 degrees last nite and right now 51 with wind out of the north about 5 mph. Today or tomorrow I will have to cut the grass for the first time since may, just been cutting down the weeds and trying to kill the same with weedkiller, sprayed all the blackberries with bow and arrow full strength, that really kills them so they don't come back again. But with all the lots I sometimes miss some and most often get tired walking around with the spray bottle.

I've read a little bit back because I've been away for so long. Today is shrink day so leave the gun at home[LOL] she doesn't like it. State renewed my carry permit again for 5 years. Kathy is stringing pearls again. We found a deal from a dist and he is giving them to us at wholesale whitch is very good, untied for 80$ a strand 8mm. Kathy bought a lot and will sell them in the shops for 2004 each.Jewerly stores sell them for 350 to 500$ for the same thing.

Welcome to all the newcomers; I remember when I was one and now I enjoy reading the posts when I get time now.

Our prayers go out for those in need and I don't remember all of you so I won't try to name names. I forgot to write them down, not really much time, Kathy's lunch is dew and dr is next.

We all miss you'all because much of our time is now taken up taking care of each other.

Today all is fine..............Much love and prayers to all......Chuck and Kathy

Hey guys! A really quick hello!

Been really busy the past few days, here is a quick reply, I will catch up again tomorrow.

Ed - Tomato Soup Recipe

2 lbs. Fresh tomatoes (mine were cheery varities)

1 tbsp olive oil

1/2 large onion diced

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 cups tomato juice

1/4 cup fresh basil chopped

1 tbsp fresh rosemary chopped

1/2 tbsp fresh thyme chopped

1 tbsp chicken base (low salt)

1 can Evaporated milk

salt and pepper to taste.

Fresh grated parmesan cheese

If you have large tomatoes, cut them into eights then puree in a food processor or blender. Otherwise, just throw in the cheery tomatoes and puree them well.

In a large soup pot heat the olive oil and saute the onions then the garlic until soft and translucent. Then toss in the pureed tomatoes and stir well. Add the tomato juice, the fresh chopped herbs and then chicken base. Stir well and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Then turn the heat down to low and simmer for 1 hour. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Stir in the can of evap milk.

I also have a hand held blender that can be immersed into the soup that I use to blend again. If you need to use a blender, be sure to cool the soup down first.

Shake or grate some permesan cheese on top of each serving bowl.

Good evening gents......managed to get the printers working on the new RC1 Vista OS. HP did not have drivers available yet for their 6000 or 8000 series printers, so they gave me instructions to select the 990 Officejet, which is sort of a generic printer driver that will work with my 6210. Things are sure more technical that the early days of CPM OS!!

RYAN: That is a great sounding recipe, gave it to the wife who will try it real soon. And guess what we had for supper? Stewed tomato from what we canned last year...man was it good, I love that stuff. And I use graded cheese on top just as you have in your recipe.

Hi Gang: I haven't been on line since some time yesterday morning. The county sent out there mower to mow the side of the road and they also mowed the terminal box that my phone line ties into. At least they get the bill not me.

My best to everyone.

RT: I'm thinking about you and your mother. Hang in there.

I was hoping to get some MRR time today but we ended up doing chasing all day. I am going to go see a friend of mine tomorrow. He has lung cancer and is giving it a good fight. Fortunately he has insurance but that may not last long. He won't take money so I'm going to buy some things that he's selling. We did alot of re-enacting together, the fur trade eras and old cowboy stuff. He's a Viet Nam vet also.

A BNSF freight caught us at the crossing today and lo and behold the 3rd unit was an old SD-40. Not a dash 2 but a 40. It was painted in orange and green.

Well I'm going to hit the sack. My best to everyone and all those needing it.

Good morning and top 'o' the day to all of ye, I'll take the ham and eggs today.

Heading out to Alexandria today. Going to physical therapy to have calluses peeled off my feet so they'll heel properly, and as usual, they're gonna hurt for two or three days afterward (oh joy!).

The upside is that I'll be able tp raid the LHS today! I need to pick up a new turnout (RH) and maybe a new ore car.

See y'all later.

Oh, and before I forget, here's the credit card and the fire extinguisher to put it out with.

You guys are far too prolific for me this early in the morning!

I've been very busy this last few days as Dad is making headway but very slowly and will be in the hospital for another week at the very least. He's lost a lot of weight and strength so healing will take a lot of time.

Lisa got one of her casts removed and is in more pain than before and will have to start physio this week.

And I'm off to Dad's to do some more repairs before it hits the market next week.

The "New" builder starts before Halloween as his price was considerably less and included the moving of the Wood Stove Chimney.

And the MESS sits idle as I have lost the umph to get into it at this time. Though the Doctor has suggested I get into it to take my mind off of other things. I may have to listen to her on this one.

Once again thanks for the prayers and well wishes guys as this is one of these storms that just doesn't blow through overnight.

Dick: Lisa has been very disapointed this year with the lack of Hurricane activity but then again she did predict all this would be further out to sea back in May, Smart woman my Lisa. BTW it's "Newfoundland". The locals would surely correct you in a more traditional way  if you had  spelled  it like that for themWink [;)]

Good Morning All,

Regualr coffee and a buttered hard roll please Zoe. Foggy this morning, I'll wait for it to lift a bit before setting off for Essex and the engine builders.

Thanks for the correction Ed and of course you're right the plaque does read "Wreck of the old 97" I plead a senior moment. Also thanks for theadditional info on the Roanoke area though 220 ended up being senic enough for me with the rig doing 40mph uphill and 70 down, even with the jake brake on. Much more enjoyable in a car so maybe I can take the other detour next time I don't drive the truck.

Lots of good progress out there on your layouts, I really need to get my act together with the photos and account to store them as now they all reside in my shop computer along with the race car shots.

Scurrying around getting trucks and trailers ready for the next couple of trips along with the cars. CUL, Big Smile [:D] J.R.

Mornin all!

Ham and eggs sounds great with a cup-o-joe please.

JR, no prob on the additional info on Roanoke.  I was back up there two weekends ago, and I can't wait to get back again to do some fanning on the lines there.

I have been in a modelling lull lately; too much to do outside.  Now that is is getting cooler and darker, I guess I'll have to break down and install some additional lighting in my train room so I can work after work.

Ya'll have a good one.

Well good morning everyone!

Had a few days off the net so I could move and I see you guys (and gals) have been busy racking up the pages while I've been gone!  I'll have to take some time and catch up.  In the mean time, the move to the new house has happened, though we're not totally in yet.  We still have til the end of the month to turn in the keys to the old place.  That's good, because we still have a few things there.

So, how's everybody been?  Well, I guess I'll find out when I read the last few pages, huh?

Oh hi Chloe!  I'll just have some of that good looking stuff that Jeff has.  Thanks!

Well, I've got some reading to do!  Later!

Good morning fellers….

I’ll have a hot tea and an apple and cream cheese filled Danish pastry please, Chloe!

I’ve been working on entering the Model Railroader Layout Planning contest and will try to mail off my entry by the end of this week. Keeping my fingers crossed, but if I don’t win anything that is OK. It was fun making up a track plan and it was a good lesson for me too.

Finally took a few photos of the latest work in the train room last night, here are a few shots for your viewing pleasure…

Middle peninsula area

Double main line sub-roadbed and printout

What the heck happened to the pages in the CS? I was at the top of page 1212 a few days ago and now that last full posting is sandwiched in the middle of page 1211….

Anyone have a clue as to what happened in here?

If you're going to keep talking about it, please post the recipe.  My mouth is watering and it's just past breakfast time.

Also added two 8’ joists for the benchwork section. I also attached the middle section benchwork legs to the floor with 3 ½” deck screws, and had made it very sturdy.
Yeah, screwing it to the floor like that is pretty sturdy.  Expecting hurricanes up there?

... it is the only train shop I know of that is located in a horse barn and has an in ground pool just outside the front door.
For use of the customers??

Oh, and I really like what you did on the weathering of those tank cars, Bragdon system sure is neat, eh!
Thanks.  I was surprised at the good results that were so easy to achieve.

Later

Ed

Ed -

Have you made some tomato soup yet?

Yep, my thoughts exactly on hurricane proofing the layout!

So far I have not been invited to go horse back riding, but I am making a stop there on my flex Friday off this week, I will ask.

Bragdon system does make for a quick weathering session.

Chris -  I think you will really like visiting Train Buddy. While it is not a very large place, Kim does have the ability to order just about anything in the Walthers catalog and at about a 20 to 25% discounts on all their advertised catalog prices. I have also placed large orders for track, cork, etc.. and usually gets them all in for pickup at the shop within a week.

On my first visit to Train Buddy I was expecting something different and was surprised at how small the place is, but don’t let the size of the place fool you. Kim is one of the most knowledgeable shop owners; he even does seminars at local and regional train shows. I really like the one-on-one attention when I have questions. On my Friday visit to the shop I will be picking up a 3-way Walthers turnout that I order and one of my topics of discussion with Kim will be on remote slow motion switches and turnout control for the layout.

Flip – I grew my tomatoes so I have no real idea of how much it cost me per lb. And welcome to the new and “unimproved” forum format…

Dick -  now that you have Vista OS installed, do you think that it will replace XP as quickly as XP replaced W2K? Funny, because I still see many places that are still using W2K OS.

No, but a pressure cooker is on the wish list at this point. Duke sent me an email last night; he may delay the motorbike ride due to impending rain, but he plans on arriving sometime Friday. We are looking forward to meeting him at the event on Saturday afternoon, and hope to ride a few of the 1.5 foot track rail trains.

Sorry to hear about your furnace, but looks like you got it back up and running pronto!

You are making me hungry now with them stewed tomatoes and grated cheese! Not even lunch time and I want a big bowl of that now. Let me know how the soup comes out!

James - far as you laptop question, most laptop batteries are fairly safe. Sony brand laptop lithium batteries have been identified for a potential fire issue. Last year Dell started a recall on certain ones that were manufactured in Singapore and only during a specific line run. While in the past year or so the quality of their smaller laptops seems to have dropped, overall I still recommend Dell. But you have to be careful what model laptop you select. The lightweight ones are not very reliable, and lately I have noticed that some of them are quite fragile. I have a Dell Inspiron that was purchased in 2000 and it still runs fine and have never had a piece of hardware replaced. While it is showing its age, and not running like a top as it was brand new, I will most likely be reinstalling the OS soon, the hard drive is way too fragmented at this point to get a real speedy response.

Jerry - congratulations on the granddaughter! So how many grand kids does that make now?

Let me know how the tomato soup comes out!

RT - nice snag on those O gauge items, so you model the Southern too! And wishing that your mother is feeling better soon.

Hoople - I like House too, but haven’t had time to watch it lately. He really knows how to get into and out of trouble quick like!

Paul - prayers for your friend! I like getting caught at RR crossing now, sounds like you had a nice rail fain stop

I don't know but I'm willing to guess.  My assumption is that a few posts got deleted (for whatever reason).  Remember back before the software change, the page count on the main forum index was way off?  That was because the administrators had deleted a few posts along the way (I think some were part of that series of inane posts that were supposedly made by the younger brother of a poster).  Might be something similar, but with the new software it might readjust the page count and position of the posts to fill in any gaps.  So if a few posts were deleted, all the rest that come later might have just moved up in line.  Just a guess.

Have you made some tomato soup yet?

Nope, need to get some ingredients.  Fresh herbs will be tough, but I'm always willing to fake a recipe using whatever we have on hand.

Regards

Ed

Ed - nothing wrong with changing the ingredients in a recipe. Historically recipes represent the area that the food was obtained. In todays modern world of shipping we can get most ingredients just about from anywhere. I bet that if you replace some of the tomatoes in the recipe with tomatillos you might get more of a regional flavor. That is the great thing about recipes, change some of the ingredients to suit your own tastes or availability at the location.

Thanks for the forum page answer, that sounds like what happened.

Cheers,

Ryan

Actually, I'm at work right now.  My internet and TV are due at the new house today.  The stereo won't be up for some time as the speakers were shot and so they stayed at the old house.  The trains are still at the old place too as I( wan't going to let the movers have at them.  I'll do them myself!  So far I haven't gotten to them as I've been busy setting up housekeeping.  With the wife and kids all having muscular dystrophy it keeps me busy getting everything set up.  Trains are coming soon though,....PROMISE!

The "music" is right outside the window.  CSX's double track main is just across the field outside the trainroom window!

Welcome back PC! How’s the new digs?

Hey Ryan, they're great!  It's a little over twice the space we used to have, so it's huge compared to what we're used to.  Can't wait to introduce the trains to their new home!  Gotta go pick those up from the old place soon.

Gotta love that! Yes, the train room is patiently waiting, I can tell.... and the anticipation is starting to build too I bet!
