Hi.  First time user.  Matbe thin is not the place, but here goes anyway.  HOW do we get the brass importers to start using cast brass frames.  I'm not saying cast the cylinders with it if they don't want to.  It seems that it would gratly improve the models.  At todays prices this seem like a small thing to aask.
I not sure why they do it the way they do, maybe to save money in the manufacturing process.

The general forum, where you were when you clicked to come here, would be a better place to pose this question.

Good afternoon gents, online for the first time today. The weather has been just spectacular, and I suspect that is why we haven't seen Fergie, Luc or certainly Der John in the CS as much as usual. Being closer to the Arctic Circle, they have less time in Nova Scotia to get ready for the Winter.

MIKE: Those pesky little critters can make a real mess out of a shed for sure. Our cat was killed by a Fisher this past Summer, so we have no hunter now to keep things in control. Got to get another kitty soon!!If you need to get rid of mice Mike, get some Hydraulic cement, mix it with grain, and leave it where the mice are, or their holes. They get very thirsty, and gets what happens after they eat grain laced with hydraulic cement?

JEFF: Hey, that sounds like a nice job, $1200 a month....is this retirement money, or are you still in the workforce Jeff?
Your layout is coming along very nicely. I hope I can get back inside soon, but I still have 3 cords of wood to bring into the garage yet for the Winter. We do not have an attached garage, so I don't have trouble with mice in the woodpile getting into the house.

RYAN: How many quarts of tomatos have you canned so far? If it is a cold winter, you will be happy to have all you can. Also, Winter Squash ( also called Butternut squash ) keeps very well in a cool dry location. We had about 2 bushels last year, we placed them in a cardboard box lined with newspaper ( for dryness ). We ate our last one in April for Easter dinner. So easy, no freezing or canning involved. And, extremely easy to grow.

Ok, time to get back outside,
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Half of that ($600) would be the money I normally get by on. The other $600 is MAD MONEY and I'm going to go mad at the LHS with it. Wouldn't the clerk be surprised when I come in and pay for everything he's holding for me? He'll probably fall over.

Yeah, two things.

#1 Ditch your fear, have some respect for yourself, and pluck up the courage to ask her out. What's the worst she can do? Say no?

While putor was down I was working between 10 and 12 hours a day 6 days a week so that kept me busy enough not to miss putor to much lol.

Only wish it was true Dick. ad is back in the hospital with a very nasty intestinal infection. Hopefully he'll pull through this one. From what I've read this could take a very long time to beat or worse.

Evening Gang: Girls since Fergie has other things to worry about I'll pick up the tab for the page.

Fergie I'm praying for your dad and adding one for you and Lisa. Hang in there and let us know how he's doing.

Not much going on here. We spent the day running around getting feed and picking up Mary Ann's tractor from the repair shop. The good news is that all but about $70 of the $400 bill is on them, I hope. The service manager is still working on it. The bad news is it will need a new clutch. Not right away but I don't want to wait too long.

We also got some prices on a new metal building. They are not as expensive as I had expected. I'll have to get prices on the concrete slab and the labor to but it up. I figure off the top of my head around $9,000.

Welcome back RT.Sign - Welcome [#welcome] It's good to see you. Have a whatever on me.

I'm going to head out. Good Night to All

Evening all, barley pop  Cleo please,
Our internets been down today, don't know what was wrong, but they had to call in the big boys to fix it.
Kc, had the papa's hold me's again today, don't know why, but she don't want to loss site of me lately, even when  ma ma's [grandma] here.

Ryan ,,, not a killing frost yet, but it's still early. Doesn't make any difference on the garden, it's done. Started cleaning it out already.

PC,, hope the move goes well, OH yea you got payed help. So it'll be some what easier than doing it yourself with the heavy stuff.

Jeff,, good luck with the new job, hope it lasts. layout progreess looks ok. I use dry wall mud to cover the styrafoam, shaping, and filler where needed.

Dick,,, I'll have to try that hydralic cemet. I can get it at the right price, free. #3 son uses it in the oil fields here for some thing, just remember seeing some in his truck.

PA,, all I can tell ya is, pull your thumb out your back side and ask the girl. Don't know bout after that, been to many years to remember.

BIG Blue,,, welcome back to the CS, whats ya been up to, just wondering.

RT,,, welcome back,, sure missed ya round here. good to hear the harvest is going well. Just starting good here. Harvest is running backward for this area, more corn done than beans. Most the time it's the other way around. Yields are down on both from normal by 20 to 40 bushel on corn, but only 5 to 10 on beans, from what I've heard so far. Hows it been running up your way.
Hope that putor hangs on fur a spell.

Fergie,, hope your dad gets along ok, we'll be thinking of him here.

Bout time for bed, catch ya'll in the morning

I'm seriously thinking about opening an "Online Gift Shop" to sell Mugs, T shirts and photos but don't know if there would be enough interest to justify initial costs.

When I get a chance I'll look into it deeper. Right now I've got a full plate as we are about ready to put Dad's house on the market.

Good morning and top 'o' the day to all of ye. I'll have the steak and eggs today with a bit o orange juice.

Today it's back to playing with more mud as I put down more wall joint compound for the scenery base. That stuff dries really hard. The part I put down yesterday is as hard as a rock! The only bad thing about it is that I have to get it out of a 5 gallon bucket. I'm going to see if I can find something smaller around here to put it in.

Good Morning, Zoe - could I have a cup to go and one of those cinnamon rolls, please? Almost missed those when I looked at all the goodies BillT. brought in. Thanks, Paul!

Fergie, sorry to hear about your Dad having that infection. I will be praying for your Dad. Nice mugs, by the way. Now you have me trying to picture a CAW RR mug...Hmmm....

Good to see some familiar faces have been in the Shop recently. I'll write more specfic hellos later today (after I get off work).

Well, got to go finish getting ready for work. (Now, all our retirees can hush about the joys of retirement, please. That's a ways down the road for me, alas.Sad [:(])

Cool but no frost this a.m. Got the dew to wipe off the car windows, though. Got cooler last night (in the 30's) here.

Blessings and prayers, especially for those who are ailing,

Retirement, I was forcibly retired from the active workforce. The only work I can get now is at a local workshop that employs the disabled. There's something that comes in once in a while that I can work on, but the rarity of such contracts is something else. I'll be going back to work there next week for however long the contract lasts, it might be a few weeks, could be several months. The last time I worked there was in '04. Get my point? So far, the biggest part of my retirement has been boredom. If I didn't have the layout to work on, I would have probably gone up the wall by now.

Mornin all!

Big day today, gotta get crackin'!

That steak and eggs sure looks good!

Fergie, concider yourself, and the family, on my prayer list.  Medical problems can be tough to handle, huh?  So little is actually in our control it seems.

Afternoon fellers! I’ll have a bowl of seafood gumbo, some crackers to go along with that. And how about one pastrami melt sandwich too. Make it a root beer float! Thanks Fergie…. oh I mean thanks Paul!

Beautiful day today, temps in the low 70’s and sunshine from above, makes me want to play hooky from work today…  It sure is a sin to be inside right now!

Jeff - I grew up next to a Navy base in New Orleans and all my friends moved about every 3 to 4 years, so that made it hard to keep friends that way too.

Welcome to the CS mlwjohn                Sign - Welcome [#welcome]      and welcome back Big Blue!

Dick – I don’t can the tomatoes, since all my varieties are cherry and tear drop the actual production size is not much. But they do make a great salad accompaniment, and the tomato soup is fabulous.

RT – glad to see your computer is back up and running. Looks like you been keeping busy anyways…

Fergie – you selling them coffee mugs for the MESS? Hope your dad is doing better, thoughts and prayers added to the list here.

Inch – yea, I know what ya mean, some of them veggies and berries just don’t make it past the summer time. Sorry about the Internet, looks like your back up now!

Hello Jim in the Cape!

PC, congratulations on the move day!

Cheers,

Good afternoon gents, just got through raining cats and dogs here as a cold front passed through. Trains and Model RR Mags arrived yesterday, so I plan to read those this afternoon and evening. Maybe, just maybe, I'll get a chance to do some work in the downstairs train room ( Phase I area ).

RYAN: Ahhh, Cherry tomatos...ya, too hard to can those because you need so many, however, it CAN be done!! Just wash them, cut off the stem if there are any, throw them into a blender, add and sweet vidalia onions and/or peppers if you wish, and I think my wife adds some sugar, not sure of that, and Can them the usual way using a Pressure Cooker. Pressure Cookers are MUCH safer to use when Canning ANYTHING because you are boiling under pressure at about 230F...kills any bacteria. Standard old fashion boiling the jars filled in a cooker on the stove is only good to 212F ( 100C )...not as trustworthy.

JEFF: At least you have found a hobby Jeff, I know a few guys up here that have no hobbies, and they are bored, lost etc. Between 4 kids, their houses and yards, 9 grandkids, my home with 12 acres, wood to gather for Winter each year, a big 100 x 150 veggie garden, tree seedlings from the Forestry, doing all my own maintenance on my home, AND MODEL RAILROADING, plus some photography ( strictly for me and fun , not as business ), plus all the MRR mags and books to read as well as this forum and other computer stuff I do, BOREDOM? Not even in my vocab!!!!!!! Anyone that is bored has moss growing in the wrong places...lol

FERGIE: I am real sorry to hear about your dad, I know that he just loves to be in your train room, and his companionship with you and your family is very important to him and you.
We have him in our prayers Fergie, and hope for his speedy recovery buddy !!!

MIKE: Not too cold here yet, in fact, we have not even had one night yet when the temps got down in the 30"s and that is exceptional!!! Normally, we have had ONE frost by now. All the flowers are still growing like crazy, inluding the GRASS %$%$$$%## grrrrrrrr! And the veggie garden is still producing Summer squash, peppers, broccoli, beets and cauliflower....unbelievable with October here Sunday.........GLOBAL WARMING????? NAAAAA! What do we know, we are only MRR's

Talk later,

Just a quick visit, CFO saw MD today, her liver enzine is very high so a lot of concerns but other slowly mending.

Not much done in Gloetown, I still need to do some work on the track on the north side of town.  The crews are somewhat difficult as they want time off for the overtime they put in...

Fergie - Thinking of your dad and you and your family.  BTW  Nice mug shots Smile [:)]

RT - good to see you back

mlwjohn & Bigblue - Welcome to the shop.  Hope you'll drop in often and have fun.

Jeff - Looking good, noce work.

Ryan - can you send a few car loads of tomatoes my way?

Well that's it for now, I'm going for a nap, I work from 10pm tonight till 10 am tomorrow.

Afternoon all, I'll have an irish coffee please Cleo.
Cool n cloud out, had a sprinkle come through while ago. Looked at the radar shows more headed this way, just what we don't need right now with harvest going on. Some fields are starting to get soft.

Fergie,, if the price was right, I'd take one of your mugs, Mother collects them, along with teddy bears, and to much other stuff.
