Wow, Lupo, now there's a voice out of the past!!  Great to see you checking in here.  By the way, how did your trip to the States work out?  Did you get to see Bill Mathewson and Tom Watson?  How are they doing?  It's been a long time since we've heard from either of them.  How's your business doing?

Best regards

Ed

Yep indeed a voice from the past!

I had a great two weeks over in GA last November, I stayed with Bill and his wife Lori and had a ball!  most of the time spend railfanning the Atlanta area and up north .some serious railtraffic coming through there ( mainly CSX ) also visited some nice RR museums, and made 100's of pictures of all things interesting and as reference material for later use, The US is so different to europe!

As the local NMRA chapter ( piedmont division ) had organised a month of open houses we also visited several very nice lay-outs, and we also drove up to the mountains to visit Tom Watkins and see his layout. very nice work he has done, like an amazing riverbend with water so lifelike one could easily expect to get wet fingers touching it.

a visit to the NMRA headquarters in Chattanooga turned out sour as the were closed opposite what they told us on the phone, but the very nice yard of the  Tennessee Valley Railroad right behind the NMRA office made up for that, as we were allowed to cruise the yard and watch all their rolling stock up close.

the business is doing fine, installed a second press hiring new staff etc. busy, busy, busy!

take care and stay safe!

cheers,

LUPO

Hi Gang:

I've been off the last 2 days. If this is what retirement is going to be like I'm going to keep on working. I've got to go back to work tomorrow to get some rest. We hauled hay again today. Brought in 11 bales. John is going back out tomorrow to get the swather set up to cut hay. There has been some good rains out there and the grass is growing fast. He'll make a back haul of some more hay so we may be able to skip hauling next week. Well, probably not since I'd like to get a good bit ahead in case something happens.

Lupo: It's good to see you back in the shop. It sounds like youhave had a great trip. When you get a chance tell us some details.

Trent: I guess you are on the hunt for new business. We've been getting some needed rain here also ans they are saying rain next week.

I'm going to head on out now. I've got to do some chores.

Good evening, Zoe - I'd like a nice ribeye steak with salad and some steamed brocolli tonight.

Talked with my doctor yesterday. He seemed flabbergasted at the price of the CT scan - guess medical schools don't teach 'em about the financial impact when ordering treatments... Nothing major new, my ‘good’ cholesterol (HDL) hadn’t changed (still needs to go up), and my ‘bad’ cholesterol hadn’t either (LDL - needs to go down). So, I need to figure how to motivate myself to get up early enough to go walking in the mornings, then get my shower in and be ready for work on time (still). The doctor asked me if I’d had a colonoscopy yet (no)... Oh, goodie - don’t look forward to having to have that later. Disapprove [V] The doctor did say that I do have diverticulitis (had to look that one up to spell it). But since I’m not having any more symptoms/pain, so far so good on that. It apparently was good that in my family, only my grandfather on Mom’s side ever had any heart or stroke problems (and only once that I know of, when he died). No known history is good news. So more of the same on my diet, and more exercise (to try to lose some more weight). Uh Zoe, could you change that steak for a grilled chicken *** instead? Thanks.

I now have about half the cork put in on the second section of my layout. I got a roll of white paper at Wally World, but don’t know that I’ll use it. May see if I can get some at the LHS in town - I think that’s where I got the last paper I used (but they closed at 2 p.m. today). So I’ll take the WMart paper back and just get the paper that fits my needs better on Monday. I also may just either use some plaster that I have, or else have our LHS/MRR club member order me some Sculptamold at our discount. But I’m not sure I need all that much.Confused [%-)] Getting closer to the track(re-)laying, though, so that's good. Smile [:)]

Mike, from your quiz I’d guess  that I’m about 90+ percent old fogie - I only missed the one on Don McLean’s song (Bonus question - does anyone recall that song’s title?) History - huh, Noah?...Wink [;)] Nice station pics (again), Mike - that depot and freight station look fairly recent. How old would you think they are? You sure you couldn’t talk the CFO into letting you take that photog job? Wink [;)] And you probably better hope the little woman doesn’t peek in the window and catch you sniffin’ on Janie! Oops [oops] Careful, those reporting marks are Department of Defense! Might be something we’re not supposed to know about just yet...Shock [:O]

Fergie must be resting up - I haven't seen him in the Shop since he had just got back. Are you out there, Fergie? Maybe that Honeydo list got too long while he was gone?Shock [:O]

PC, better be careful there with ordering that lobster and all. Mike’ll pay you back next time you get TOP (and we know you will...) Shock [:O]Whistling [:-^]

OzJim, thanks for the info on the covered hoppers, and good luck with your trip and photog’ing.

Jerry, good to hear you are mobile again. Bet that guy will remember to bring everything next time he gets called out some place on another repair job... Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Wow - you really loaded up with the muchies! Zoe, are there any burgers left to fix back there? Oh - Jerry, your evening sounds like a good one, with all the Woody Guthrie book (is one of the movies about him? That’d be even better!) Enjoy a great night.

Another warm day here today. Probably won’t be able to leave the windows open tonight, though - it’s the tractor hot rod event tonight at the fair, and you can hear ‘em probably a couple of miles away! My buddy from church was given some box seat tickets for the event, but I declined (something about wanting to retain my hearing...)Shock [:O]

Paul, you rascal, you! Routing Ed’s pecans like that...Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]  You’re making my mouth water with telling us about those fresh apples. What varieties do they grow up there?

PA Belt, good to hear you’re feelin’ better again about the ladies. Take your time (with them - the car might need a trip to the paint store). No need to rush on the ladies, anyway.

MTL/Maine,
when you put it in terms of how severely a person in a car is outweighed at the crossing, that should hopefully make a few more teens think twice before trying something iffy.

Noah,
Noah, pace yourself - it’s too early to be counting the school days just yet! Wink [;)]

Scott, I wasn’t really trying to talk you into a third job (plus school). That would likely push you over the edge...(if you aren’t close already Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^] Besides, your LHS job is a good one (and saves you some money on MRR stuff in the process, too!

Trent, always good when you find another good place to eat - plus, you might sell them some stuff. Do you have some old lanterns and RR signs you can interest them in? Smile [:)]

Lupo, good to see you in the Shop again! How’re things going with you lately? Love your signature! Laugh [(-D] Sounds like you had an excellent trip, with the layout visits and assorted railfanning, too. Yeah!! [yeah]

Ed, I was surprised when the barber at the shop yesterday said the Cards are still 6 games out front. I told him (and he confirmed) that somebody else must be doing poorly for that to be true, the way the
Cards have been having trouble stringing three wins together this season. How have the Red Sox been doing lately?

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Thanks for asking Jim but I've been under siege as of late as I had to take Dad back to the Emergency Friday due to complications to Meds. He's now on the mend and Lisa's broken wrist turned into two broken wrists after the bone Doc didn't like the look of the other wrist. (Heck I'm not a Dr. and I could have told you that! DOh!) So Lisa is sporting two casts and of course there is the case of the Contractor who by the sounds of it has over booked and is once again putting off the job to build the inlaw suite. I could go on but...

As for your LDL/HDL dilema, walking isn't for everyone. Though I don't have a  problem I'm aware of yet I try to get a 7 mile bike ride in a day. Different strokes for different folks.

Increase your fish intake and that should help a fair bit. I know as Lisa had to change her diet several months ago and it is working. (Fish and Chicken, skin off)

BTW the dry rub ribs were very good on the BBQ today and a great day it was!

Anyway as you can see it's hard to keep relaxed and focusing on the things you love to do but I'm managing. Rain tomorrow so let's see what that brings.

Good evening gents, a full day outside getting all the Fall chores done plus some projects that we waited for cooler weather to do. Thta was a joke today as it hit 80 before the cold front marched through and dropped the temps into the upper 50's.

LUPO: Good to hear from you again, and, I see you made contact with Tom Watkins, that olde mountain goat, where has he been? He used to be a regular in the CS. Is his computer O/A? I know he had been having troubles with it.

FERGIE: How on earth did Lisa break TWO wrists? You sure are going to have your hands full with Lisa in two casts....I hear you are quite a Chef though. As for Contractors, the same story goes on here in New England too...they all overbook, then delay after delay. If he doesn't start soon, you may be looking at next Spring.

CAPE JIM: Before I retired in 2000, my CH had slowly climbed to a high of 290 and my weight hit 212 ( I am 5--10" ). The doc wanted me to go on Lipitor. I told him that would be last resort if I could not get it down naturally. I am now at 210 for CH, 68 for HDL, 128 for LDL, but Triglycerides are a little elevated at 160, which is what is causing the total CH to be at 212. I was able to get mine down by dropping my weight to 180-185, drinking lots of water every day ( metabolizes fat much better ), eat cheerios for breakfast ( eggs and bacon maybe twice a month ), Low Fat Columbo Yogert and fruit for lunch as well as Healthy Choice soups, and mostly chicken ( skinless like Fergie said ) and fish for supper. If I have meat, it is very lean, no fat, like Buffalo. ( Yes, we have Buffalo here, two towns north of us sell Buffalo from the herd they raise in Rutland, Ma. ) I don't walk or ride bikes for exercise, as I get so much activity around these 10 acres taken care of this place that I get all I need to maintain my weight. All my relatives on my dads side had type 2 Diabetes since about age 45. I am still under 90 for Glucose at age 67 by maintaining a healthy weight, sensible eating ( most of the time, I do cheat at times), and plenty of physical work.
So Jim....it can be done without pills, but you must change old habits...God do I miss ice cream every night.

PAUL: You will be busier after you retire than you ever were working...believe it buddy !!
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Mornin all, coffee please Janie,

Yesterday wasn't a very good one, KC didn't feel good. The only way I could get her to sleep was hold her or take her out in her stroller, She slept better there, and the other two were just a pain. At least Mother took Leroy and J Bird with her to the baby shower.

LUPO,, sure is good to hear from you, been a long spell. Thanks for the link on the haz mat cars. Sounds like thing are going ok your way, and staying busy.

JERRY,,, the library had a movie on Guthrie at one time, it was sure good. Don't know if they still do or not.

PAUL,, glad your gettin some rain your way too and another hay cutting. Know you could use both. Retirement can be busy, just have to learn to slow down some at home.

JIM CG,, Hope you get the cholesterol down. Mother has trouble with hers, mine ok. Had a colonoscopy before, no fun. A freind of mine just had one and said it wasn't as bad this time round. Didn't say what was different.  Don't know much bout the station, but JERRY might, think he ran round up there more than I did. Mother doesn't worry bout the sniffin an looking, just no touchen.

FERGIE,, sure hope things get lined out there soon..

PC,, I was nice to you the last few times you had the top, BUT, just wait now!!!

Found this engine on a siding in Charleston,IL., Eastern Illinois Railroad Company. It runs on EIPC trackage, from Metcalf  [CSX]  N. of Charleston to Neoga [IC] to the S.

This a Nscale model of the Monticello railway yard

This one is of a hornets nest in #1 sons front yard. The city's suppose to take it down

Thanks to all you for the info on the haz mat car. It was just different than normal through here, throwed me off.

Got another long day here. The Veterans pinics today out to Mill Creek park and I have to go help with it. At least I didn't have to cook this year. I enjoy it most the time, just hope the rain holds off till evening. Needs ta get started on chores, hope ya'll has a good one

RT: Thanks for catching the party. I'll pitch in to. Cloe, put half of this on my tab.

PC: Happy B-Day [bday] and many more. You are a youngster still. There are a bunch of us that can't even remember being that young. I hope that you enjoy your day and get lots of mrr stuff.

I'm at work so I get to use the high speed internet. I'm printing out a bunch of photos of mine buildings and mine shaft heads in the Upper Michigan area. most of them are very old but there are enough of the more recent ones to help me.

It's break time so I'll head out to my hide away and work on the Cliffs shaft concrete head frame.

See you all later.

Hi all, its a cool rainy day in Wis today. Feels great don't care for anything over 70 anyway.

RT I have heard of the dogs of war, but the cats of war thats a new one.

Noah how is the show in Monre? Do they have alot of venders there?

Got my Atlas H16-44 Sat wow runs like a watch and pulls like a real FM did. Walked up a 2% grade with 25 cars and a caboose, not bad, and the detail is great.

Ed, I would not want to be the captain to try to pliot a lake boat out on the ocean and down to Mex, see they have a flat bottomed hull designed to take on the short choppey waves found on the greatlakes. They wouldn't last long in open ocean waves.

I have to go the girls are out at the local mall and I just got the come and get dad call.

Yeah, actually I know that, having seen a lot of them and learning about them when I worked up in Sarnia.  But Paul and me were just funnin'around........

Although, I suppose they could run them along the inside passage through the Intracoastal Waterway.  That ought to avoid most big waves, ......... and any stray torpedoes.  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Good afternoon folks:  We are now officially on a school bus route!  The young lad who had to hike past our place to be picked up at the corner can now wait at his gate because an ankle biter down the road started school this fall. We now look forward to early snow ploughing. Approve [^]  Looks like Florence isn’t going to be a bother, at any rate this far out.  Off Newfoundland by Wednesday, and not much effect in Nova Scotia.  We shall see.

Mike:

DER,, the birds got most the blackberrys here. Only got enough for one cobbler this year, darn it.
..I’m wondering why they didn’t hit here.  Some of the fruit went way over-ripe before we found them, and not a sign that the birds were interested.  Strawberries, now, that’s a different story.Disapprove [V]

Scott:  Good to hear from you again. Hope the move back works out OK. Bummer about having to give up the Bose job.  Still, I see you’ve ferreted out some useful replacements.Thumbs Up [tup]

Ryan:

Dick, that battery technology might be an interesting solution to locomotive power.
…Would be very convenient!  One wonders at the price however.  Like nano-comupters and motors for animating N and Z figures, possible, but maybe not attainable.  Still, we can dream!Laugh [(-D]

Ed:

Okay, enough about Germaine Greer.  We now return you to your regularly scheduled programing.
…Thanks Ed! Wink [;)]

I'll trade you some pecans for your oranges. Say pound for pound?

How about I accept that offer before you rethink it?  Sounds like a winner from my side.

Reminds me of the cartoon in the weekend funnies. Teacher sets homework for the year at 1 second the first day, two seconds the second day, and so on...is this a good deal?

Although, I suppose they could run them along the inside passage through the Intracoastal Waterway.
…although from what I read about the water levels this year, that might be a bit of tough sledding too.

Lupo: back.  Thanks for the ID on the nuclear car.  Thanks for the update to Ed too. Interesting time you’ve had.  Glad the business is prospering.Thumbs Up [tup] We’ve missed your smilies

Fergie: That’s a tough row for Lisa, what with the back-to-school thing and all. Hope your father is improving also. No wonder your time has been limited in here.  Prayers for all concerned.Angel [angel]  I Sign - Ditto [#ditto] the fish advice to Jim. I’m having canned mackerel for breakfast most days. Mind you I like it, and yes I prefer the fresh, but we’re not fishers, and no Dick, I don’t mean the 4 footed kind!Laugh [(-D]  Over-booked contractors are a summer norm here.  It’s like they start any number of jobs, and then go on from job to job doing just enough not to get fired.Disapprove [V]

Colby:

I will be asking my princaple if we can get a presentation at my school by Operation Life saver.
…if there are tracks anywhere near he’d be Censored [censored] unwise to say no. Good for you.Approve [^]

PC:

You are going to have to explain just what the “the down side of being an old fart” is to the steam enthusiasts among us.  If my almost totally non-existent German holds up, I think fart is an anglicized form of pharten which is German for steam!!!!   I got this arcane knowledge from the old newspapers that lined the walls of the rest room of a little German bakery down at Spry Bay before the landlord raised the rent and forced it out of business.  The folks are back in Germany now.Disapprove [V] Major gastronomic loss.Thumbs Down [tdn]

Afternoon, Coffee Clubbers! Zoe - I'd like a root beer float, please - with that Blue Bunny lowfat ice cream in it. Thanks - oh yeah, and could I have a small slice of PC's birthday cake? Yum!

I certainly hope we don’t have any ADA/AMA members cruising through the Shop, with all the free dietary/medical ‘advice’ in here. Wink [;)] Nah, those dieticians and doctors wouldn’t be threatened by us... Thanks for all the suggestions, guys (some of which I’ve already been practicing). I’ve been eating salads and mostly chicken for years (and fried chicken is basically off the list), and I always strip the skin off. Just wish our grocery store would run specials on fish more often... I like chicken and fish (haven’t noticed any growths of pinfeathers anywhere on me yet! Shock [:O]Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]), and also love broccoli with a little of that Take Control (butter subsitute) on it.  Yep, I do like Cheerios, too.Smile [:)] My cholesterol is up, but the good thing is, my blood pressure isn’t (that, and having almost no family history of problems). But I want to loose more weight anyway - got too used to being around 185 most of the years I was married, and now I’m way above that!

Fergie, if I could get the valve on my bike’s tire replaced, I might opt for the bike riding. We have a bike/walking trail not far from my apartment, where I’ve usually gone for my walking. I have a couple of the PraiseWalk tapes I use - just would like to find a way to get my exercise in in the morning but not have to get up so Censored [censored] early. Never was like a farmer about getting up early (though I was for a while married to a farmer’s daughter) - I can stay up late okay, though. Smile [:)] Sorry to hear about Lisa’s double whammy and your dad’s needing another trip to the docs. Contractors, well, they’re...uh... contractors, as Dick said.Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

Mike, I hope the city comes to get that hornets’ nest pretty soon.Shock [:O] That could be downright dangerous, judging from the size of that thing! Somehow, the knowledge that a second colonoscopy is ‘easier’ than the first one isn’t quite as comforting as one might think. I’d rather just stay healthy and not have to have any of those things. (But yeah, I guess it's inevitable...) Some things just aren’t meant to be shared with others, IMHO... Liked your birthday pics for PC - is that what those PTO’s
on tractors were meant for?Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

PC. welcome to the OF club Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] and Happy B-Day [bday] And Colby’s got a pretty good voice - he even sang in tune, unlike some of us... Actually, though, I think I sailed past 40 without anyone noticing or doing the black balloons thing. So you’re maybe not that old compared to some of us (like me or others...Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

DerJohn, remember that along with early snow plowing, you may get the joys of clearing your driveway only to have the snowplow come by and fill it half back up...[}:0]

Jerry, how’s the Guthrie book - and which one did you get? I might want to check our library for it, if you think it’s good.

Colby - hope you get your school convinced to have the Operation Lifesavers come give a presentation. It's definitely worth it!

I did hear the tractors last night at our fair (even with the windows closed and the A/C on), until about 10:45 or so. My buddy who went told me this morning that they were running until 11:10 last night, and they did use that progressive weight sled thing.

This morning at church we had a group (of four persons) called “Long Story Short”, which basically covered the entire Bible in one hour , theater, simple costumes, humor, etc. Funny, but also conveyed the basics - I’m sure the teens and kids especially enjoyed it. The church didn’t have the usual Sunday programs for the older kids, just so they could come to the service and see it. Very good.

Another warm day here today. Went over to a friend (from work)’s house and tried to help her get the computer and internet working. It had sort of been working - the Internet - and she got a new all-in-one printer/fax/copier that she couldn’t get working. I got her Internet/DSL straightened out (the filters and splitter to the DSL modem were in the wrong order), but I think her USB card needs the install CDROM (or wasn’t installed - it doesn’t recognize it, apparently - not-so-plug-and-play). The printer's install CDROM didn't recognize that the printer was connected to the USB port. So I suggested she see if her nephew could locate the USB card's installation disc, and maybe then we can get that thing working.

I might have another idea for filling in the nooks and crannies on the layout - I have two small containers of vinyl spackling type compound, and I might use that - would that retain some resiliency so it wouldn’t be too brittle later? I may have my re-corking done by the end of this weekend, so I want to try something to get the cracks covered before I start putting track down later this week/next weekend. Yeah!! [yeah] If I keep going, I might actually be about ready to start on some structures after that (and wiring, and...).

Blessings and prayers for all in need (and also for the birthday boy Wink [;)],

evening all, barley pop dear,
Vet pinic went ok, plenty to eat, freinds we hadn't seen for awhile and a blue grass band this year. Danville VA brought down 30 vets from the nursing home there, and they seemed to really enjoy them selves.  So thats over till next year, on to other things.

PC, the CFO said she'd deliever if the price was right.

JIM CG,, the hornets nest is small compared to the one here n up in the woods aways. It's at least 20" cross n bout 2' long in a sycamore tree bout 30' up.

Well all it hasn't been a good day at all First I get top of page honors (thanks for spliting with me Paul) then we (wife and I) went to go see Edythe and that was very depressing. She never even woke up while we were there (2 different times today) she is that medicated. Normally she would hear us walk in the room. Even got more bad news when I got home and called Trish (the one with the medical form to speak for her if she can't) They don't expect Edythe to make it long enough to get to the nursing home.

Hello Funeral. I need to go find a suit and fast. I wish not but thats how it looks to me. (yes I donn't even own a suit just haven't needed one scince I got out of the Navy in 1992.) Last funneral I went to (my father ) I wore my military uniform. (he was so proud that all 3 of his sons were in the navy.)

Oh well hope all had a better sunday than mine and best of wishes to those under the wheater for one reason or another and family/freinds also.

Good evening gents....we had a beautiful day here today, very cool though, so it really feels like Fall.

PC: Happy Birthday you olde F...!!!! 40 did I hear John say? You only have 25 years remaining to work until retirement!! Actually, you need to work until 67 to get your FULL benefit without any penalty for early retirement.

DER JOHN: Good news about Florence, but the seas will really be high down at the dock, better keep an eye on your long boardwalk!!
Good news about the snow plowing....it is nice to be on a school bus route!!

RT: Sorry to hear about you MIL.....that must be very, very hard on your wife. She will remain in our prayers for sure.

Talk later guys,
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! CapeJim:

you may get the joys of clearing your driveway only to have the snowplow come by and fill it half back up...Evil [}:)]
…no ‘may” about it, that’s standard procedure isn’t it?Sigh [sigh] Wink [;)]  This way we could get ploughed before we get around to clearing, so it’s possible things will actually improve. (Besides Murphy, isn’t there a law against that?)Laugh [(-D]

happy jack: Hey Ho! Big Smile [:D]  Was just wondering as there’s a lot of talk on the ndcc Yahoo email group about decoders for the Normal version.

Mike: Please keep those hornet’s nests to your side of the border.  Our grandsons are forever regaling us with tales of the hornets where they live, but the nests are nothing like that.  We have one or two wasps’ nests from time to time, even found a small one inside our dog’s house when I cleaned it out this summer.  Those I can cope with.  Anything that won’t fit into a can filled with gas is beyond my expertise!Whistling [:-^]Blindfold [X-)]

RT: Sorry to hear about Edythe.  You are all in our prayers.Angel [angel]

Going to run a train while an anti-spyware program updates, which on dial up may be a while.Zzz [zzz]

Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

Hi Gang: I just heard that rain is in the forcast again. I hope that they got it right. We still need some.

RT: I'm sorry to hear about your friend. It's hard. Hang in there and don't worry about a suit. I'm sure that she will be just as happy to have you there no matter what you are wearing.

Not much going on tonight. We got the cattle up and put out a bale of hay. Now it's time for bed.

Good Night All
