It's been a couiple of days since I was last in so I figured that i would pop in ans see how everyone is doing.We had two days of relief from the triple H days of summer, but we are now right back into the cloths sticking to your body hazy days broken uop only by violent thunderstorms.
Paul - Don;t worry Fergie will keep your number of ore cars secret won't you fergie.. Have you looked at Sylvan Hobbies barrel type ore cars as a break up the monotony type of car. They look like little cylindrical hoppers. The sylvan kits are resin as well, I find that his kits are on par as far as difficulty goes with Westerfield.Here's a link to thier website so you can check them out.

Her I is. My Friday and looking at 4 days off. The daughter and her bunch are coming back from there trip to England Friday so we have to go to the airport and get them . They will stay Saturday and leave for home Sunday. It will be nice to have them here but such a short time. The granddaughters grow up so fast and we are live so far apart.
Rob: I'm familiare with Sylvan models. I've talked to Clare the owner several times. He has a pretty good water line model of a great lakes canaler and a freighter. Also a couple of tugs. The ore cars that you mention are too modern for my operation. I have a video of the railroad that uses them and the operation is very interesting.

Weather guesser, says it'll be a hot one here today, with a chance of rain later, looks like it could rain now, kinda cloudy out. Got most the yard mowed yesterday, along with a couple post holes for the 8x10 addition on the shed, so we have more storage for wood pellets., that was bout it for the day.

INDYSON, non-value activities, sounds bout the grandsons working here. It takes them an hour to do a 10 minute chore. The only real excursion Mother n me's ever been on is down on the French Lick/West Baden RR, but we're hoping for a couple more this summer. I did hopped a box car, when I was a kid and rode from here to Effingham, does that count.
PAUL, know what you mean bout being far from the grandkids. Ours in Ohio, we only see acouple times a year

I've been busy myself as of late working on the module and the layout. On the module, I've been working on getting a wooden crossing installed and some more of the dreaded wiring done. It's coming along nicely, things are working out really well, although I do dread that wiring.
And for the first time in a long time, I've actually got the layout running again. I've got relatives coming over this weekend, and so I'm trying to get the layout at least to the point where I can run it. I'm doing pretty well too. I can get two six axle locomotives and a few cars around the layout without derailing, so I must be doing something right.....
Well, I'm going to get going, I've got stuff I've got to get done. We'll see you guys around,

We had a downpour gully washer storm yesterday afternoon, just in time for the drive home from work. Many cars stopped on the side of the road and one truck spun out into a ditch. Crazy! It rained about 1 ½ inches in one hour and the creek behind the house was up to within 6 inches from the bottom of the foot bridge. I just wish we had a kayak to ride, and it would be fun as the creek becomes a stream about 3 – 4 feet deep during those downpours.
Fog again coming into work this morning! Fog in July! What a notion, never seen fog in the summer time before moving here!
I spent about an hour in the train room last night, and put down some more cork roadbed with the latex caulk. Also printed out the updated layout plans and posted them on the wall. I had to modify the east wall section of the track plan and move the double track main line over about 6 inches to accommodate the new window unit AC that sticks out about that much into the room.

Yep, kids these days huh! I caught one of the neighbor kids (5 year old) doing the same thing off of our foot bridge behind the house the other day. The museum in Roanoke sounds like a fall trip then with cooler temps for the outside exhibits.
In reference to your question about railroad excursion trains, we took a trip out west in the spring of 2005 and took the Grand Canyon Railway from Williams, AZ to the Grand Canyon and the one day round trip event was fabulous. It is an all day event, and the train leaves the depot in the morning and heads north, arriving at the Canyon depot just before lunch time. The depot is only about 100 yards from the south edge. Then you have about three hours to tour the canyon, and around 3:30 the train departs the Grand Canyon depot and heads back south to Williams. You can also opt to spend the night at one of the lodges in the canyon, pack your luggage on the train and return the next day.
Neal, sorry to see another Amtrak accident in Louisiana, I am always amazed that people think they can out run a train. It pays to stop and look both ways when approaching a rail road crossing. Rayne, LA, are they still famous for their frogs?
Paul, sorry to hear of the water intrusion, hopefully it was a one-time event. But finding the source will be a curiosity, water and moisture just seems to make its way anywhere, anyhow, anyway.

Hey, Dick, did you say blueberry patch? Man I love those plump blueberries in a bowl of cereal, or with a thin drizzle of condensed milk on top. Yum!!!! When we lived in New Orleans we used to attend the annual Blueberry Festival in Poplarville, MS. I could buy a whole flat for about $12.00, then would end up freezing about half of them. They are great frozen and in a bowl of cereal, the milk freezes around them and gets the whole bowl of milk ice cold.
I am going to end up running the Chevy S10 into the ground too before I buy another truck, and hopefully it has at least another 5 years or so on it.

Basically I had the whole front end rebuilt. Inner and outer tie rods, ball joints, control arm bushings, stabilizer bushings, CV joints, and to top that off, a good alignment.
But those kinds of treatments are the FREE ones!

I'm sorry, I missed the question the first time around. The Pizza Train is a special train run out of the Indiana Transportation Museum. They grab a few passenger cars and throw some motive power on the ends, then head out of the museum yards and go to a town up north, Tipton, and stop for dinner at the local pizza joint thats beside the tracks, then load up and head back. We also have a lake in back yard. The last I heard it was called the pacific ocean, all kidding aside it is fun to watch all the wildlife on and around the water so as we both do enjoy sitting down and watching it.

I used to have a pond like that in my back yard. I lived in CT. and they called it the Atlantic Ocean. Yeah, those were the days! Nothing quite like jellyfish season, or when the horseshoe crabs came up on the beach to mate. I think my new pond will do just fine. No tides to make it smell bad either!

Evening all, its been a while since I've been in. With the AC down last week it was just too hot to do much of anything, including sitting at the computer. I have an old window AC I put in my bedroom so I could sleep. I spent a lot of time in there listening to the radio and reading. Thankfully it was fixed on Friday.
Hope all those feeling under the weather are doing better. And to the new folks I've noticed while reading at work.

Hey, it's on topic. After all it is a "train car". I like the plates and holder, Scott.
It's getting hard to put up with dial up service knowing that cable broadband is just around the corner. That's a lot of the reason I haven't been in much lately. My patience with dial up is wearing thin. It's a chore just to check email and take care of necessities like paying bills. I estimate about two to three more weeks. Broadband will probably be available around the middle of August so the cable company can put notices in with the bills they send out around then.

Hi gang! All kinds of uncalled for maintenance chores keeping me away from real life. Here’s what years of water pressure will do to a ball joint in your shower.
And that’s not town mains pressure, just our lil’ ole pump in the basement.
Yesterday was a re-build of the door to the trailer. The wood had completely rotted out at the bottom and ¼ the way up the lock set side.

Hi Paul. Clare is one unique individual isn't he? He comes by his love of lakers naturally as he spent many a year in the engine room of Upper lakes Shippings lake boats.I saw him about a month ago, he was dropping off an order at our local shop ( imagine a manufacturer that does his own deliveries in this day and age ) he had along with him one of the first test shots of a new ship model. an HO scale pacific caost lumber hauler a turn of the century job, quite good looking. Sounded to me like he was going to try and have it for sale out this fall.I'bve noticed that CN has converted most off their barrel ore cars to scale test cars, I've seen a few of them heading through my area in trains .
Ryan - Yup we are coping with the heat. Five more days of it before the next break at least according to our local weather guessers. At least we have had a thunderstorm in each of the last three days, keeps it interesting fer sure.I'm not all that partial to blueberries, but I do have a blackberry and raspberry patch and they too make excellant smoothies.

Hey guys, the air horns aren't in quite yet. That happens Friday. So Jim in CG and Rob, you guys don't have to worry just yet.
Jim in CG: Not to worry...The plates seem very stable right now at least. And the horns are only rated at a max of 115 decibels...And they'll be under the hood. Nothing too terribly loud.
Attaboy: Thank you...Someone can see the true nature of my posts. It's just my car trying its best to pose as a locomotive.
Trolley Rob: They should be within the legal limit of Maryland. If I'm not mistaken, rig trumpets are louder than mine are. However...They will be my standard horns. But it's not like I use them much as it is.

Regular and a donut please for me. I always knew Grayfox was a man of great character. Blueberries are my favorite as well and I try to start off most mornings with some.
PC - I think the lake in your Ct back yard might have been Long Island Sound (Lung Oilint in the vernacular they use out there). On a clear day you can see the island from the shore south of here, most days not.
Steve Mayerson was in last evening at the museum to do another weathering clinic, this one on rolling stock. He starts everything off with a coat of dullcoat spray (windows and all)and then hits the cars with brushed on ink and denatured alcohol. The wash interacts with the dullcoat and turns the chalky white I've been trying to create with chalk. but much better and more like the prototype.It looks particularly good on the tar roof of a passenger car. The rust and grit is done with brushed on chalks dry or wet with the alcohol clear or agan with dilute ink. Put on over the bright lettering on painted cars, the transformation is fantastic. He uses chalks in earth tones and grays from the craft store - nothing special - but I was really impressed.
