Just to show that I have actually been doing something, here's a shot of part of teh first ballasting effort. Came out better than I expected. Did I mention that it was tedious work?

Good morning y'all.[C):-)]

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!

[#welcome] Alex de Lery! As JimRCGMO said, there are plenty of other teens/kids on the forums. Myself, Noah, as well as Cheese3 (Adam), BMTrains (Alex), and many others. If you are looking to find some more teen rail enthusiasts, you could always check out the National Teenaged Rail Enthusiast Society (NTRES) at http://s2.phpbbforfree.com/forums/ntres.html. It's just a small forum now, but we hope to be expanding soon, as well as adding true physical divisions and clubs.[:D]

***: Thanks.[8D] Now the real question is...Will today be a burst or a bust...? Fourth of July holiday...Do people want to by home theater equipment...?[:p]

Well, just a few more minutes, and I'm off to work on the Bose Train. I'll catch y'all later. Happy 4th of July everyone! Happy Birthday to the United States of America![^]

Flip Yes, I did notice the writing on the back of the pics, but I think it is better if you explain what they are and looking good.

Ed Nice aerial shot of the layout[:D][:)][:-^] Really though,it is a nice ballasting job[8D][tup]

Inch That is one nice looking cake, shame to cut it up.

Ok,here are some more of Flip’s pics.

Good afternoon to all, and a HAPPY 4th of JULY to everyone.

JAMES Thank you for your best wishes to your neighboring country from grateful brothers!!! Very impressive display!!!!

MIKE Yes, I can see where all the changes in electronics can really be intimidating to non electronic trained folks. Luckily for me, I grew up loving electricity and electronics since age 8. I built my own transistor radio at age 14 (1953 ). But even with all that love and training in schools etc., the changes today have me scratching my head at times, so I can only imagine what it does to other guys who are not in that field.

FLIP/DUKE Don't those cars look like they are a pale PINK ???? Don't you think that FERGIE is going to get a bit upset? First you infringe upon his MESS trademark, then you show off all these PINK cars. Tsk tsk tsk. He will not be Happy Camper now will he ???!![wow][(-D][(-D][;)]

ED You are doing a banner job Ed !! I hope you are not bending over to do all that ballasting though. Seeing that you have your layout on a door, I hope you are able to lift the door to a sitting height to give your back a break ( no pun intended here ).

On the weather front, it is as oppressive as you can get here today. It is 69F for a DP, and 72% RH with a temp at 77F. You would think that 77F is no big deal, but the DP ( Dew Point) is the real measurement of how uncomfortable the air is. A DP of 70 or higher is TROPICAL and it sue feels it. We had one TS go south of us at 1pm, and we had a little rain, but that was it. I hope the front from Canada moves through soon!!

QUOTE: ***: I hope you are not bending over to do all that ballasting though. Seeing that you have your layout on a door, I hope you are able to lift the door to a sitting height to give your back a break.
I've actually been able to do about half of it by just sitting in the chair that I have by the layout. Since it sits on our old kitchenette table, it's just at that height. Hopefully I'll be able to do about half the overall ballasting while seated by just moving the layout/door around on the tabletop.

Even though it's not Independence Day down here, I fired up the grille in honor of the moment and did some steaks.

Inch, can I assume that your wife uses coconut to give the cakes that fuzzy look? She sure has a knack for decorating. No wonder her goods are in such demand.

The bad news for the day is that the Boston Red Sox lost their second game in a row to Tampa. I think I'll go into mourning. Either that or go and eat dinner, one of the two.

Mornin all,, coffee please Zoe,
Posse to have better weather here lower humidity and temps, hope the guesser’s are right.
The cookout at the MIL’s got some sprinkles, but not enough to move inside, we moved the chairs and coolers under the trees and pop the top on another one. Then we went an watched the fireworks in the rain, so instead of an running about an hour, we had a 30 min., it was great. When we started home, we found it hadn’t rain outside of Marshall, so we still need rain here at home.

ED , ballast and scenery job looks great, mighty fine work.
The fuzzy look is icing, it’s just way it comes out of the tip, and she is purrty good at it, but it’s getting hard for her to do it anymore, she has arthritis in her hands.

Grayfox , I grew up working on radios an TVs, even had some computer repair classes in the service 35 years ago. I just have trouble understanding this new stuff. My comprehension and understanding don’t meet in the middle any more.

Got some time in the train room yesterday, worked on another hill and did some cleaning up, hopefully I’ll get back in there some today in between chores. Hope everyone has a good day.

Good Morning All,
Regular and a Dutchie please Zoe. Took yesterday off, didn't even turn the puter on. Did get some work done on the layout putting in the elevated line at the front of what will be a city scene (raised double track ala the NH shoreline or the portion of the Maybrook through Danbury out by the old Stetson Hat Factory). Probably won't stay true to the prototype though as one of the underpasses collects 4-5 box trucks every year.
[#welcome]Alex - we normally get to Mt Tremblant every year for a week to race cars. Except for driving through Montreal, Quebec seems a great place.
Ed - nice job on the ballasting. I like the natural "flow" to the track - it looks real.
Inch - cute kids - you said they take after the missus' side did you ?
Time to run - the CFO has been piped aboard and we need to move cars around so we can get to work. CUL, [:D] J.R.

This happened last night, at the Rail Crossing in my suburb, where i frequently railfan, the woman was very lucky to escape without injury, this area the speed limit is 100kmph so the impact was very hard, lucky she got out in time!, the driver is currently in councilling, the driver wouldn't have had time to stop, as the is a crested curve approximately 400-500 metres before the crossing, and at that speed the train would have struggled to stop.

i think i will go down on sunday and investigate and take some shots to give you a better Idea and to see if there is any damage.

all for now

Chloe, how about some biscuits and gravy this morning? Thanks!

OZJim,
That's quite a hair raising story there. Glad nobody was hurt!

Oh, and ED,
I'd be proud to show off the ballasting! It looks great!

Well, I've got to act like I work here, but I'll stop in later!

Good Morning! Tall cup a coffee for me today! Getting up early again for work was not easy after sleeping in a few days…

We toured the Biltmore Estate on the 3rd and this has got to be the most impressive work of house architecture I have ever seen and been in. The house itself takes over 4 acres of space, has over 250 rooms, four floors, and a basement. The self guided tour takes just over two hours and you get to visit only 62 rooms within the house. Vanderbilt grew his fortune from shipping and railroads back in the 1800’s. He owned over sixteen railroad companies including the Long Island Railroad, New York Central, Canada Southern Railway, the Lake Erie and Western, and the Nickel Plate Road.

We did not have time to tour the transportation museum in Spencer, going to have to plan another trip for that some other time.

And now for something completely different:

On the MRR front, all i ahve to report, is that on pg42 of the Aug issue is a fictional layout (LARC) at a guy's place about 3 miles from me. Not that that's important, but what I noticed, is on pg17, is a ad for a Railroad Grapics CD and is sold under the company name of LARC Products w/ the same zip code as this guy's layout. I wonder if any of the Graphics on the CD are used on his layout?

JP

JP, Believe it or not this is my short answer to your question. I attended the culinary apprenticeship program at Delgado Community College in New Orleans and worked at two hotels during the three years. This program was a part of the local chefs association that was known at the time as ‘Le Chefs de Cuisine de la Louisiane.” I first worked for two years at the Hyatt Regency Hotel which is located next to the Superdome. At this time it remains closed due to Hurricane Katrina, but I heard that it has plans to be renovated and reopened, but do not know when. I started my training in the banquet kitchen learning basic preparations such as vegetable prep, some days all I did was clean and chop onions and potatoes. The store room clerks would bring in pallets with nothing but 50 lb. sacks of onions and potatoes, and I would clean and cut, clean and cut all day long. I can remember my first few weeks having a band aid on every finger of my left hand. I eventually worked just about every position in the kitchen with the exception of the pastry department, and that was a specialization area, I stuck with the culinary side. My last position at the Hyatt was Saucier; I would prepare all the soups, stocks, and sauces for the hotel. It was my duty to prepare the soup of the day first thing every morning, and to maintain the five ‘Mother Sauces’ as well as other specialty sauces at all times for all the restaurants of the hotel. This included beef stock, chicken stock, seafood gumbo, tomato sauce, Creole sauce, marinara sauce, brown sauce, cream sauce, béchamel sauce, and others. I worked my last year of training at the Columns Hotel and eventually became Sous Chef before I graduated. I remained in the restaurant business for 18 years before making the career change to IT back in the year 2000.

The LARK article is quite interesting, I like the way he has taken a fictional route and combined it with specific prototype scenes. And thanks for the heads up on the ad on page 17, and I wonder too if it is the same guy. I would bet that taking out an ad in the MR would also help in getting your layout published too.

grayfox,

I hope I’m not too late, but a root beer float sounds great! Thanks ***! The heat was up there these past few days, but I have never known a July 4th weekend that didn’t involve a little heat and sweat.

[#welcome] Alex! Great to have a new modeling friend in the Coffee Shop, have a soft drink on me! Do you like root beer floats? They seem to be popular here today…

I too model in HO and have just started on my new layout back in May, and you can view my progress at the URL Google pages link located in my signature area below. Glad to meet another HO scale modeler!

Hey James from Downunder! Thanks for the July 4th graphics, really nice gif files, I downloaded them too!

Ed, I think the boss would not like it right now if I took a shot of tequila. I will take you up on it after work today! I love a good margarita too! We did, however, take a few sips of Biltmore Estates Chenin Blanc wine last night in honor of the 4th celebration.

OzJim, That was quite and incident with the stalled car and glad to hear that no one was seriously injured.

Luc, sorry to hear about Gloria, hope she gets to feeling better soon! Thoughts and prayers are with you both!

Hi Gang: It's coming up on lunch time so I thought before I run down to the canteen I'd drop a line.

It's the time of the year that I'm working on the budget for next year and the overhaul for this winter. I guess I'll just subtrack what I have gotten done this year from this years and add a few things than add 5% to the carry over and let my successor figure it out. I fegure that with the floating holidays and my vacation I can avoid the overhaul altogether. That's if I can retire the end of January. If I can't I think that I'll just check into the local funny farm. I'm pretty well qualified now anyway.

Luct: I'm sorry to hear about Gloria's problem. I'll keep you both in my prayers.

It's time to head out so I'll check in later.

I hope we can get at least 1 of these next 2 games. I'd prefer both, before we head off to Chicago to play the 'other' Sox this weekend.

Luc -
Prayer's for both you and the Mrs. Hope thigs get better w/ her soon.

Ok all -
Time to get ready for the 'mad rush' at the end of the day.
