BJ [Duke] One more thing- Here in mid-Fla., and maybe elsewhere, by dialing 511, you can get road conditions. As soon as you connect, give the road you are on, i.e., 1-75,
before the menu starts, and you will know what to expect.
Did I give you 'phone # on the 'E' I sent you? Think I did. Memory is short, or is that shot?

Thanks to you other Veterans that make us free.

Hi Gang: I just came from the Gold River ride. The control room was hot enough for Mrs Inch to bake some of those cakes. All I can do is remind them that the computers and amps don't like the heat and will go on strike. If they don't want to listen and do the right thing, Sin Loi. ( That's Vietnamise for sorry bout that.)

It's getting about time to head for home and I have one more chore to take care of. I'll see you all later tonight.

Afternoon all and [#welcome] to the newbies as this is a good place to be.

Neal Teffy’s law is what most of us go by here in the CS and that is you don’t rivet count and if you don’t like it there is the door. In other words,it is my layout and my world. So,do what you would like with your layout (RR) and if someone doesn’t like it or it doesn’t look prototypical,Tough.

Flip One of the guys that I ride with calls them Q-tips and yes I will try to be more defensive in my riding while down there. I have to be around here too.

Painted some plywood this morning and I am going to put another coat on in just a little bit, then comes the homasote. Summer is making it a little harder to get into the basement and I am putting things off a little until after I get to Philly in July. That will give me a chance to hopefully see and touch some of the things I would like to buy. Looking forward to seeing Attaboy,Ken L,and Gumby if they will be there on Sat.

Well that’s about it
Talk to you later

Duke

A GOOD MEMORAL DAY to all,
Coffee please Janie, another hot an humid one here. Been over helping with services at the legion today, iI had to wear my dress legion uniform, since I'm a past officer. We had a good service, plenty of baked spaghetti afterward, and the rain held off till everything was done. The city band played the songs from all the branches of service and when your theme was played , you stood up. We had several vets there today, and when they played the Navy song [row, row your boat] there was a few stood.

Luct , thanks for the veterans post yesterday, real nice

Jerry , the beans came out great. Have a look see,

Hope your buildings work out Ok.

GMT , I found the Indy race is better on the radio than on TV.

Neal , both the G and HO layouts are huge compared to what most of us have. Do ya has any photos you can post.

Alaska Peter , Guess I miss welcoming you yesterday, so you get today. 70’s would be a blessing here with the temps in the 90’s along with the humidly.

Jim CG , no storms here last night, although there is a chance this afternoon. Mother does the cakes, seems like some ones always wanting a cake for something, and she makes a little money on the side too.
Tracks been slow this weekend, some days there’ll be 20 or 25 a day.

Peter , sounds like you have a nice layout going there, looking forward to some photos.

Flip bikers have the same problems here with other drivers. So, ya watch out for the idiots out there.

Ryan , looks like your ready to start the layout now, and with a good equipment stock also.

Need to get over a clean up the campgrounds, looks like e may get some rain here.

Thanks to all the vets around on this day of remembrance

inch

Happy Memorial Day!

Well, I just spent $450.00 on benchwork supplies at Lowe's yesterday! And that should cover about 2/3 of the whole layout. Hand picked all the lumber and shelving brackets, but they were short on brackets and straight 1X3X8's. I have enough to get a good start though!

I also started an inventory of my locomotives and rolling stock. Here is a brief type summary of the current inventory list:

TYPE - Quantity
Box cars 35
Bulkhead Flatcar 1
Caboose 1
Hoppers 26
Locomotives Diesel 17
Locomoteivs Steam 3
Flat Cars 4
Pulpwood Cars 2
Refer Cars 2
Tank Cars 5

The HO layout is 135 sq. ft. and is in the today era. That layout is only two years old and I am only about 1/2 way the layout. I still have a long way to go.
Thanks Jerry and Inch for making a fellow feel right at home.
Good Luck and Happy Holidays to All!

Welcome Neal! You kinda got flattened between the races.

Didn't watch the Indy but saw some of the F1. Poor Schmuckraker [V] [:D]Looks good on him!

Luct: good to see your alive but sorry to hear about your back. Went tonto the Website and it looks really good. You did a nice job on it.

Well they're flooding the Graving dock as we speak and we will be pulled out of here on the High Tide later tonight and sailing for Dartmouth tomorrow a.m. and not a momemt too soon!

Later Gents

Once again I'm at the job. Rats.

To all those servining, or have servied. Thank you. I'll sit down with my memories of the ones who I knew that are lost later. It gets too heavy to do it here.

Good Morning All.

Happy Memorial day. Thanks to all who have served. And double thanks to all who have lost a loved one who served.

Coffee and a donut, please. Yes, it is the breakfast of champions.[;)]

GMT - No doubt the F1 cars are fast and beautiful but right now the series lacks passing. Maybe if they stop trying to make things equal, things may become equal. Also, need to agree with you, Danny Sullivan is a far better choice than Derek Daly. I like Speed's coverage better but Sullivan made CBS's good.

Another lazy day today. I need it. I've been going non-stop for weeks. This break is so very welcomed. Still recovering from New Orleans. The mold in hotel triggered a nice sinus inflection.

I hope your all having a great Holiday weekend. Talk to you later.

Morning Chloe, I think I'll have a biscuit with butter and jelly, and maybe a couple slices of bacon to go with this cup of coffee.

Thanks Jim for the headsup on SilverSpike. I sure want to meet him.

Peter, I can surely relate to that. I have these days that all I want to do is work on the layout even if the house was falling down around us.

RT, never saw a red house before. Down here they always left them natural. Just kind of blended into the background I gress.

Jim I watched "We Were Soldiers" a while back, and at the time I can remember thinking I was glad I was in the Navy and missed that part of the War.
Jim I have a question I have to ask, but know I shouldn't. What is Tiffy's Law?

CUL.[:D] J.R. Didn.t watch the Indy yesterday was working on the "GIGINTIC" railroad between the rain. Hasn't rained here in over a month and yesterday because I decide to work on the Garden Railroad it decides to rain.

Well people finished my buscuit, finished my third cup of coffee now it's time to hit the road. Great talking to you'll today.
Have a great holiday and pray that Iraq isn"t going to be another Nam.

Good Morning All,
Memorial Day - the parade is later this morning but aside from making some banners for the Catholic War Veterans' float we're not participating for the first time in probably a decade. We can still watch though.
Welcome to the newbies. HO, N and G makes a nice balance. I assume G stands for Gigantic, no? [:)] We like them all here. Spent the latter part of yesterday cleaning up the workshop. Now all I have to do is figure out where to hide my original 4x8 layout table. It is now nearly 30 years old and has gone through five or six revisions but is still intact enough that I couldn't bring myself to saw it up and give it the heave-ho. Maybe it would make a nice N scale.........
The Indy 500 was a better race as far as passing and lead changes was concerned, but for someone who drives the street race at Pittsburgh every year, the speed the F-1 cars make between those walls is really impressive. And the commentary was much better with Sullivan replacing Daly who is just hopeless. Also saw part of Lotus - Victory by Design last night. The cool part there is I've met most of the people who loaned the cars used in the segment and a couple I've even worked on as vintage cars.
All for now, time to get crackin' here. CUL,[:D] J.R.

Duke- One more thing to be Very aware of- SENIOR drivers. Many over 55 retirement villages in mid Fla. and they DO NOT see Bikers . Please be cautious.
We lost a couple sitting on their bike at a RED LIGHT. Don't know what the car driver was thinking.

ind of nice being behind most of you all in time (Alaska Standard Time), I get to close the shop down. [:D]

Cox - A little about myself...
Started in the hobby about a year ago now when my father-in-law brought up his mrr stuff from Houston. He wanted me to carry the torch. Ironically I got totally burned out of house projects last summer and the modeling was a great escape for the rest of the fall, winter and now spring. The funny thing is... now it is summer and I don't want to do any house projects... totally uninspired! [:0]
I got about 52 square feet of n-scale track laid in an E-shaped layout ready for scenery. In the last year the layout has gone through 3 major iterations. I am pretty satisfied with what I got now. Will probably add another 7' x 2' area for a storage yard this winter.
I have try to model two areas here in Alaska, the Alaska Railroad Depot and the Healy Coal Tipple. Also plan to model the Seward Coal Facility. Most of my equipment is or will be painted after the ARR paint scheme.
Well don't like to gab or read much, but I will make an effort to come back and chat with you all. One of these days I will also set up my website to display some photos.
By the way, I like my caffeine cold (soda). [:D]
Good night all.

Good Evening, Chloe - I’ll have a hot fudge sundae. [dinner] Yum! Tell BMT I'll let him off the hook tonight. Heck, he might not even have noticed he started the page. [;)]

[#welcome] Alaska Peter I guess upper 70’s would seem warm to you guys up north there (like single digit temps seem cold for us in the lower 48, but not for you). [;)] Have a cup of something cool (or the coffee’s not too bad, either) on me

And another [#welcome] and cup of your favorite for Neal. We have a former Louisiana resident (SilverSpike, aka Ryan , who moved to North Carolina not long ago c/o Katrina and Co.). He was just in a bit ago, but if you come in here much, you probably will see him.

Inch, you make a pretty good cake there! (Or did Debbie make that for JP? I do believe that track near you is a very busy one, from all the pics you manage to get of trains on it. [yeah][tup] We had some thunderboomers roll through our area around suppertime, but these ones were heading more north than east. Hope they missed you and Jerry.

Thank you for the (as usual) very nice pics and post, Luc. [:)] I like the black & white treatment on your site, too! Let Gloe know that I am (and probably all the rest of the crew here is) saying [angel][angel][angel] for her and you both.

RT - cute ‘house! I couldn’t see through the doorways - do you have a scale Sears catalog in there? [;)]

OzJim - didn’t see you there while I was writing over here at the corner booth. On your buildings, I know one thing is that railroads would use a color scheme for all their buildings. Saves the RR money ‘cause they can buy their paint in bulk quantities. You might pick one scheme for the colors on all your depots and RR buildings. On the Merchants Row, you have much more latitude in picking - could go with red brick, or a painted brick, or even use some spackling for a pseudo-stucco appearance on the end/back walls, maybe. But remember Teffy’s Law... [swg]

I saw the (travelling) Wall here in Cape (a few years back) when they had it set up outside our big mall. Something amazing just being around it, and I can only imagine how it would be for the full-size wall in D.C.

Watched “We Were Soldiers” tonight. Hard one to watch, and I didn’t have to go there when I was in the Navy. Don’t know how those who were in Nam can watch it. Sure impresses what it cost to have our freedoms. Grateful thanks to my brothers in all the services, and especially those who saw combat.

Hope everyone has a safe Memorial Weekend, and if you'll be having to travel, be careful.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Hi Gang: I just got off the phone with KenL. He said to say Hello. He was on his way to Wally World to get some chemicals for his pool.

The train show was small as I expected. We saw the whole thing in about a half hour. I did pickup a book on WW2 railroads on all sides. It only cost $7 so I guess that it was worth it. I also bought a pair of trucks for the 7.5inch gauge. They were $250. I know who built them and think that I got a real bargan.

I've got the TV on the Washington Memorial Day program on PBS so I am going to watch it.

To all my brothers and sisters who wore the uniforms God Bless and thank you for your service. I am so proud of you all.

HEY, don't blow the 500 for those of us here in Indy who haven't seen it yet! They don't televise it here until 7pm because they'd rather you but a ticket. I've got 1 hour to go, so nobody spill the beans!

RT: It sounds like you have the most important building of all. The out house.

Luc: Thanks for the Memorial Day post. I almost lost it reading that.

Once again I've stuck it out for another 8 hours. My wife will be sooooo happy. The first thing she says when I get home is " Did you retire?", and than good . She is afraid that one of these days I'm going to tell them what they can do with this circus. I might too.

There is a train show today so I'm going to meet my son there and see what is ggoing on. It's a small show that is run by a friend of ours from the live steam group. He's selling all his 7.5in stuff. He and his wife are into collecting train memorabelia. I guess they are going to concentrate on that now. I don't know that I'll be getting anything there unless there is something that is a real deal. Of course I'll be looking for more MDC taper side ore cars. You can't have too many ore cars.

I'll be back in tonight to let you all know what happened.

Not much has changed, CFO tired of being sick, I'm cranky because of this darned slipped disk restricting everything....

On the plus side I did a bit of work on the Gloetown website. Have a look.
