Evening Gang:

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Switchman. Have a seat and the first cup is on me. What do you model?

Inch: Couldn't you just scream when that happens. Oh I guess you did.

Well we spent a rainy afternoon getting the cattle out of the pasture. The rain is really needed and I guess we're happy to get it. After we got the cattle taken care of I spent a couple of hours getting the dump trailer up to the house so I could take off the tire that needed fixing. This free corn is getting to be not so free.

I did get down to the basement for a little bit. I worked on the track planning for the mines. Not set yet but getting some ideas.

Well I guess I'll head for bed. Tomorrow is a work day and I'd kind of like to be able to half function.

Good Night All

Evening all, barley pop dear,,
Hope ya'll had good day. The trip to charleston was almost a bust. Rural King didn't have the mower parts in stock I needed. They could order them, but wasn't sure if they'ed be right or not. Sad part is I had to pay up first and if they were wrong,  I was stuck with them [$82], and they'ed try again.  Then to top things off there, I also wanted a a new chimmey brush for the pellet stove. They no longer carry that any more. They still sell the stoves, the pipe, and the pellets, but nothing to take care of them.
Need less to say Mother wasn't happy with me, when we left there. Store manager doesn't think much of me either.
Then Mother wanted to go to Walmart for some stuff, found  they nolonger carry it anymore. The girl told mom, since they didn't have, she didn't really need it. Walmart not happy with Mother now [or me].  Trip wasn't a complete bust though, we came home with a new shirt for me. bottle of Tylenal, case of barley pop, and some pics of two track side sheds, I've been wanting to get.
Well the games bout ready to start and the train rooms calling my name.

Over Coffee at the Coffee Shop some of us discussed our occasional stop-ins at the Hobo Railroad Restaurant for a cup a Joe or a sandwich. It  is located in the town of Grit-Noodle. At the corner of Giddy-up-gap and Freight-Hopper Road. Just down the road from a branch line of the UP or maybe it was CSX. I forget which  With all the Hobo slang you heard some funny or interesting sounding conversations there?  If you don't quite get the Hobo Lingo, here's a link to Railroad Hobo terms to help you figure out their conversations.  Of course some of you may already be familiar, due to past experiences Laughing ,with the language.

http://xroads.virginia.edu/~MA01/White/anthology/glossary.html

I overheard a disheveled gentlemen of the road, ordering some after dinner liquid refreshment;

Buck Bumpers: That's the best Hobo Gumbo I've had in a while. And the wrecked Adam and Eve on a raft topped it off.

Biscuit Shooter: What can I get you to drink.

Buck Bumpers : I've been perusing your fortified wine list and I've selected the '72 Hobo's Honey Delight, the '57 prairie Pattie and the '68 Forty-Fiver Chintz.

Biscuit shooter: You've selected the best choices, sir.

Buck Bumpers: And mix them all together in a big jug, to go. I've got to catch the next accommodation down to the Boodle jail before winter sets in.

What did you hear on your last stop at the Hobo Railroad Restaurant ?  Tell us and maybe we will get a Laughing or a Smile from it

That's true.  It was easy to get at.

I learned about them when I had a '79 Cordoba that would run for 30 seconds, then shut itself off for a half an hour.  Then it'd run for 30 seconds, then shut off for half an hour.  Drove me nuts to figure it out, till I realized that the ballast resistor took about 30 seconds to warm up.  Then a microscopic sized crack would appear when it warmed up and that would break the electrical current.  It would take abour 30 minutes to cool down, then you could repeat the cycle.

And who on earth designed the ballast resistor on 70's and 80's Chrysler products so that when they go out they mask themselves as any problem except a ballast resistor? Wink [;)]

Morning Philip- When I was in the auto parts business , the standing view of most mechanics was-

Designed in Detroit by Dummys .

For example , 57 Buick , had to remove rear bumper to replace taillight bulbs. Ford V8's , rear freeze plug , either remove engine from car OR cut hole in floor to get to it. [tranny housing was in way]

Duke- Thanks for your help.

BIG thankyou to all for posting your pictures.

Prayers for all.

Man!  Bill, Luc, you guy's are treating us good this weekend!  And the twins are liking you too.  Chloe and Zoe have had a nice break.  BTW girls, I haven't seen Flo in here lately.  Oh, she's still around?  OK.

Well, my car has been parked a few days and I've finally got some time to work on it today.  The thermostat will get swapped out.  I normally wouldn't mind this job.  I'd be done in a half an hour, maybe 45 minutes.  But this thing is a bear to get to.  It's one of those Ford modular V6's and it's front wheel drive.  They crammed the housing between the engine and the radiator.  I've got about 4 inches to get my hand in there and get to it.  And you can only reach it from the bottom.  What a pain.  I think they should make automotive designers work in a shop for about a month working on cars before they design them.  I bet we'd see some real mechanic friendly designs come off their drawing boards if they did that!

Oh well, time to hit it!

Later!

Evening all!

Well, the two church's are one!  I knew they would be.  I've known both of the pastors a long time and they both have a heart for God.  The people from both church's have been meeting in the same building for a year now and intermingling, so it's really just a paper thing since we're really one body of believers already.  And inch, I hear you.  I don't think that will be an issue here, but it's something that has been concidered already.  The question is,....Are we doing what He wants?  That's really the only question.  All else is unimportant.  We all affirmed that this is where He's leading.  To give you some idea, there were 186 blind votes, and there was not a single NO vote counted!  Have you ever heard of such a thing?  Not one person said that they didn't think this was where God was leading us!  Very cool night!  God showed up!

Evening Gang: Not much going on here. I was going to take the dump trailer in to work tomorrow but it has a flat. It won't get fixes until Monday. I'm taking it in to haul back corn that they have been using for decorations around the park. There should be a couple of loads at least. That will help this winter for feed. I'm going to check into renting a leaf mulcher and grinding the corn stalks and all up. It will be easyer to store and feed out.

I got a chance to work on the Cliffs shaft head frame durning break. I got one more piece cut out. Now I'm thinking that I will make a mold from it and cast the rest.  It took a bit to cut out the eight windows in that 3mm PVC.

I've been going since 4am so I think that it is time to hit the sack.

Good Night All

Evening all -

Not much going on today. Had a ncie and relaxing day. CFO called me while she was on her way to her parents place. She had come across a 2 car accident and was calling to see what had happened and if I was even home or there at the scene since it was in our district. Not sure of the details myself as I was in the shower, but do know they had called for 3 ambulances, eventhough it turned out to be a minor accident.

Other than that, I spent the afternoon watching what else, but the Red Sox game! Yeah we got a win against the evil empire! Not sure how we'll fair tonight and the 2 tomorrow, but I am hoping for aleast 1 more win.

Well all, take care and have a good eveing!

Good afternoon everyone, had a busy day today. Early morning, I took the Explorer to the tire store and had 4 new TOYAs mounted. People that have run them like them, and they carry a warrantee on any road hazard , free replacement as long as at least 2/32 tread remains. I never let them go that far anyways.
Then after that excitement, I managed to get the plastering completed on the two cable ends of the garage 2nd floor. I use the redi mix that comes in the Blue Cover at HD ( Where else, right Jim ? )

GMTRACING: Thanks for the info. I guess they have to replace both coil springs because of loss of tension in the remaining older spring that has 45K on it.

MIKE: It usre helps to have sons that are mechanics. I used to do all my own work too, but not with todays new cars. I have no problem with ordinary maintenance, but they check over the whole underside each 5K, and when we do trade the car in at the same Ford dealer that does all the maintenance, there is never a discussion over the trade in value, they KNOW the car and we get top trade in value.

CAPE JIM: No problem with HD parking spot, I think I OWN the company....LOL

LISA: I have had a stiff neck when turning either left or right about 45 degrees or more. The Xray showed a very similar thing that you just described. So let me know please what type of exercise they have you do.

FERGIE: That was good luck to get the measurement corrected, hopefully this new guy is good, and you will get things moving soon. They really like to get additions closed in by the bad weather so that they can work inside when it gets raw and cold.

Time to run, headed out to dinner...talk later,

Another coffee Janie,

Been outside mostly so far, did put in a lttle time on the layout, and I've found part of my ground, just not what I was looking for.

Fergie,, hope your dad gets better and soon. Sounds like the first contractor was just trying to rip you off now. There's a few of those round here, but they don't to last long, once the word spreads. And yes you do need to get some money back.

PC, sounds like the house is close to moving day now, know ya'll be glad when it's over with. Hope your churches get things were they can work togaither, but be carfull. I've seen churches banded togaither before and do more damage than good.

Lisap,, hope the therepy works for you.

Got this email earlier,

Subject: Ice Cream for your Soul

Thank God for Children Saying Grace...

Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if
he could say grace.

As we bowed our heads he said, "God is good, God is great. Thank you for the
food, and I would even thank you more if Mom gets us ice cream for dessert.
And Liberty and justice for all! Amen!"

Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby I heard a woman
remark, "That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know
how to pray. Asking God for ice cream! Why, I never!"

Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is
God mad at me?"

As I held him
and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was
certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table.

He winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that God thought tha was a
great prayer.  "Really?" my son asked. "Cross my heart," the man replied.

Then in a theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had
started this whole thing), "Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A
little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes."

Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared
at his for a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my
life.

He picked up his sundae and without a word, walked over and placed it in
front of the woman.  With a big smile he told her, "Here, this is for you.
Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes; and my soul is good already."

THE END

Need to get back ta chores, latters all

BTW, how do you make a gif file if your “Save Image As” thing doesn’t have gif as an option?

I think I understand what you mean. When you go to save an image off of the internet, the box down below where you type in the file name only has options for either bitmap of JPEG, right? The easiest way I’ve found to fix that is to save the image as one of those options, and then open the image in MS Paint. Then go to the “File” drop down menu, and click on “save as” there. Now you should have more options in the drop down box, and gif should be one of them. At least that’s how I go about doing it, although there may be a simpler way to go about it that I don’t know of.

Oz Jim, sounds like you got yourself a pretty good camera there. I’m working on saving myself up a little bit of money for a DSLR too, although I haven’t decided which company to go with. I really like that new 10megapixel Digital Rebel XTi that Canon came out with, but the problem is that it’s not a cheap set up, something like $900 just for the body and a 18-55mm lens.......

Good Morning All,

Sunny and mild out though the ground is still soaked. The CFO was out in the worst of it yesterday shuffling engines to Penn and L.I. through the worst of the 8 inches of rain they got out on Long Island. She was on the road for just on 12 hours, a trip that would normally take around 6.

Grayfox - Sorry to hear about your car troubles. I would have thought the bushings and springs would have been covered under the drivetrain warranty. Springs normally don't break and I've never heard of a porous spring. Bad heat treat or contamination of the alloy maybe but not porousity. I am also skeptical about the need for replacing both rear springs as once they take a 'set' they stay there. Probably they have no way to determine the actual spring rate and erred on the safe side (or fitted the only set they could find). The bushings for the sway bars are another matter as we now are on our third set with the Excursion and I changed out all the rubber for polyurethane on my Focus as it developed "wanderlust" early on. Even on the race cars we don't turn or change out the brake rotors unless there is noticable scoring, runout (more than .005"), or cracking. Unless you run thepads down metal to metal, a set of cryogenically heat treated rotors will last you until the Explorer meets the crusher at the junk yard. Of course the rotors are most easily found on the aftermarket.

Paul - I think Cracker Barrel just hires the right people and manages to avoid a lot of employee turnover. In the ten years I've been running my own business, I've been going into the same Cracker Barrel in Winchester Va. and had the same people serving me. We all know each others' names (and have for years) and going there is like old home week even though we only go to that track once or twice a year.   It might be a case of a company doing things right.

Lisap - a belated welcome to the coffee shop (you must have come in whilst I was off on the road). Glad to hear you don't need surgery. The CFO is getting therapy for her wrist and knee (the result of too many years catching fast pitch softball) and between the therapy and chiropractor she's improving. Good luck to you and we'll include you in our prayers.

I'm at work waiting for a customer to bring a car in for work, but I need to get going here and do some tidy up. CUL, J.R.
