Got me some railroad radio going right now. I'm listening to CSX in Fostoria, Ohio. They seem to be having some problems with some signals or crossing gates an dthey really have the repair crews jumping.

Cape Jim- No B&M not favorite , just like the diff. blue&black schemes. I like the G.N. Goat-have most of the diff billboard designs. The Daylight is my favorite. Have a full consist with a 4-8-4 for power. The FEC is next as I lived near the yard and was allowed onto the controll tower to take pictures and into the yard to get close-ups.  Yeah- 1994 or 5. They now have guards on duty and cannot enter the property.      Inch- What you show on page 1195 is more than I will have. Thanks for all the pics you post.  Ryan- We drivers with CDL and passenger endorsement got a $2 hour raise and were told we would have less hours. I'm still pulling 9 to 11 hours a day. O.T. is over $15 per hour.    Ed- Re your link on page 1197- no problem, got right on . Thanks for the pictoral of N.F. You take us there with words and pictures very nicely.

Morning all!

Beautiful morning around here.  Makes up for the rainy day yesterday I guess.

inch, how's RT doing?  Been praying for him.

der, thanks for krump's address.  I wrote to him, but I haven't got anything back.  How's he doing?

Turns out it was a plastic (yes, another plastic part) hose coupler that Ford put in there.  It had a hairline crack and that was causing the pressure not to build which lowered the boiling point, hence, the overheating.  As far as I know it's an original part to the car so that means it made it 225,000 miles.  That's not bad.  The down side was that the plastic part was $200 to replace!  That's right, $200 dollars for a hunk of plastic!  Silly me, and I invested in gold!

And yes, there's boxes everywhere in my house right now!

Mornin all, just some coffee and a couple doughnuts this morning Janie

The rains gone for the day I think, 53 out now high in the upper 60's with some sun. Got the demo derby done last night with only a misty shower for 2 heats, rest of the evening was just muddy and i mean mud. The full size cars had a lot ot trouble getting around, no big hits, compacts were the better show. Oh well the fair still made some money, that was the name of the game. Did think Mother was going to tie into one guy, when he come up on the stage and to start trouble. That would have been a show right there.

Jeff ,,,, we've had the same problems with kids on our putor, going where they shouldn't or down loading programs without asking first. Makes ya just want to beat their bottoms.  I get luandry days to, but guess thats just marrage.

Sounds like your getting all the bugs out of the wiring. I'm like you, I don't run any long trains, 10 cars at the most. Do have some engines that get to much wheel slippage over 5-6 cars.

Flip, good to hear from you. Can't believe you don't have at least one Pennsey, you'll have to fix that.

PC,, when they put the siding in here at Little Johns, thats how they did it. They only had the passing track down for 6 hours while putting it in. Took longer to get the old section of track, than to put the switch in.

Grayfox,,, don't ya just luv the hoey-do's, hoping mines done for a couple days.

Fergie,,, I luv pickled beats, can ya get your MIL recipe for me. Nice looking engine there, thanks

Jim CG,,, the junk pics were on RR property, they were just by the the elevator. Don't know if I'll use any washer machines either.

Here's some Sunday pics, first two are MOW, we seen at Cole,IL. Sitting beside the tracks on boards

Next HLCX 7180 and CSX 6221 engines sitting on Little Johns siding

Next, W. bound UP #? and HLCX 5240

Not much planned for today, other than trains and foot ball.  Wanted to go to Rock Ome Gardens swap meet today, but don't have a way up. Mother's having an old hen party here the afternoon, so hiding will be on top of the list during that. Hope ya'll has a good day.

There are better places on the west side of the island.  I believe the best spot is at Cornerbrook.  There they have the one remaining Nfld Railway steam engine on display.  It's a Baldwin built Pacific, #593.  It was just too far for us to go, especially considering that the main purpose of the vacation was to visit family.

I did see several ships that appeared to be Canadian Coast Guard in St John's harbor.  Is your dock there over on the east side of the harbor?

Also a nice display in Lewisporte up in Notr Dame Bay and the track is still inlaid in the Government Wharf.

The Ship's you refer to belong to Newfoundland Region and the are secured at the CCG Base.

Paul My blocks are, on average, 3 feet long. The wire I'm using is 14 gauge with a sheilded sheath.

Morning Gang: I had some slight problem getting in this morning. I had to go across the street and get a cup of coffee to tide me over.

Jeff: You need to grab a steak on Fergie this morning. You've been buying the last 3 pages. That wiring setup of yours is a great idea. I wounder why some of the DCC garus haven't thought of it. I guess it takes us mortals to come up with the neat stuff. The problem with the bundles and the dcc signal is probably the wires being in very close proximity. The wire needs to be sheilded from one another. Even with the 14ga the signal can mess up an adjacent or crossing wire. How large are your blocks? I have a 12x26 layout. It started out as a couple of modules and just growed.

Fergie: My best to you dad. I'm sure that he will get to look and feel better now that he's home. You know the lod saying , " There's no place like home. "

Well it's almost time to get to work. I'll stop back in later.

Good morning all, hummm, seems like nobody else is here. No bother. I'll have a big stack of jumbo pancakes, sausage and two eggs, sunny side up, and some orange juice.

Jim All I did on the wiring, besides rip out what was already there, was to eliminate the tight bundles of wires. These work well in DC but seem to have some kind of an effect on the signals in the DCC current. No matter how many feeders I ran, the problem ramained. So out came the bundles. I made my connections from the power packs and DCC controller to the control panel, then made the wire runs to the blocks as straight as possible using 14 gauge wire. I know this is thick enough to do the job because I've had 5 Athearn's running in consist and the wires didn't even start to get warm. There are 16 blocks in all, so the wiring to the blocks are the feeders, allowing the trains to go from one block to the next with no decrease in performance. The trains run the same speed no matter if they're close to the control panel or on the other side of the layout. I didn't worry about bus lines, I not going to be running big trains with 4 and 5 locos in consist (except to test the capacity of the power packs) unless they're running in DC. The DCC system I have won't pull that many. I usually run just short trains (6 to 10 units) for which one locomotive is suffecient.

Good Evening, Chloe - just a cup of coffee, please. Thanks, Fergie!

Inch, tell RT we’re thinking of him. Your layout looks good so far - you just need to toss some grass seed on there and water it a while... Wink [;)] Good to hear that you finally got the right part (on the first try, even!)Thumbs Up [tup] Thanks for the grain elevator pics, too. Love all the assorted pieces and junk - I’ll have to gather some assorted leftover pieces from other kits to make enough junk for my grain elevator. Of course, I don’t know if I’ll have to make my own washing machines for along trackside, but... Big Smile [:D]

Jerry, how’s your leg coming along? Keep it propped up like the doctor said (better get him to give you a note for the CFO, though...)

Ed - I’ have to agree with JR’s statement (well, about you not being an Englishman, anyway...)Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] You don’t want to be out in that kind of weather, man! Do like JR said and take a siesta until it cools down (like say, 7 in the evening?). On the eyesight problem, weren’t you going to add another floor onto your house anyway? Should be about right for an HO scale train room...Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Thank you for the Newfoundland RR tour - very nice pics (even those of equipment in less-than-wonderful shape) and great history! Thumbs Up [tup]

Ryan, I don’t blame you on re-doing the layout plans. As we get older, we need a little more (ahem..) ‘aisleway’ between layout areas, don’t we? Evil [}:)]Wink [;)] Oh, I filled the tank yesterday, for $1.969 a gallon.Smile [:)] Was thinking as I drove away, “Yessirree, young’uns - I can recall when gas was only a dollar a gallon...” (Okay, when I was a kid I do recall it being $0.35 a gallon, actually...)  Yesterday I went by Sears and had them match a sample of the (sprayed) paint I had used earlier on the layout (pre-re-corking). Got a quart to cover the new cork roadbed. Had the whole thing painted (about 2 X 8 plus a smidgen) this morning after I did laundry. I might need a touchup in one or two small spots. but looks like it’s covering well enough - plenty left in the quart can. It’s kind of a red oxide color (colour, eh?). Then I have a gallon of sage (sort of a greyed tan with a hint of green in it) that I’ll use when I get ready to apply some scenicing. (Should be able to cover a lot of area with a gallon...) But that’s a little down the road for now. Now it’s test-fitting/pinning down track and switches time (again). I may re-do some of the flextrack pieces, since I didn’t have my Xuron rail cutters the first time around on the track. Might even have some decent fits this time around. Wink [;)]

Flip, that looks like one ferocious security system there! I like the pattern on that rug, too. (No, the one on the floor - that wasn’t a hair joke...) Wink [;)] And thanks to Duke for posting so we could see how (handsome?) you look. Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

Krump, will be keeping Christine in my prayers, and that the (so-far) not-so-successful treatment will decide to kick in to cut the pain down to size (or eliminate it). (And DerJohn, please pass that along to Krump if he’s not been reading the posts due to caring for Christine).

Luc, be sure to never let ‘Bigfoot’ get on the computer or phone with BridgeTom’s cats, or you’ll be missing some cabeese...Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Trent and Attaboy, good to see both of you in the Shop. Don’t be so long stopping by again, okay? Smile [:)] Put the pressure on your local companies, Attaboy - make ‘em compete for your Internet service. Yeah!! [yeah]

Uh, Jeffrey, now that you got that wiring done (assuming you haven’t been carted off to the looney bin...) the rest of us might want to know how to do it. Sounds like a good idea (since I’ll be starting with DC and hope to later change to DCC), and I’d [ditto] about writing it up and sending it in to MR mag. Or just post it here so we can see it before it shows up in an issue!

Lisa, hope your back therapy went well for you. Let us know once you’re feeling up to getting to the computer.

Paul, have fun with your mining stuff now that it’s in (that arrived fast, huh?).

Fergie, thanks for the update on Bob and Stephie - good to hear they are doing okay.

Colby, you sure got some (fun) mileage out of that assignment

Boy has this been a slow day in the coffee shop. When I walked in I had to wake up Zoe, Cloe, and Janie. They were all asleep in the back both. I could have walked off with the joint. Oh well, they work so hard I guess when it's as slow as it's been today it's OK. Girls I'l have a cheese burger, fries, and a diet coke, please and it's on me. Jeff has hit it the last 3 pages. It's time for him to have a time out.

Nothing going on here. I'm about to hit the sack. I know it's early but Mary Ann and I are really tired. I got alittle more done on the Cliffs Shaft head today not much just some more windows cut out. The PVC sheet is nice to work with but the 3mm stuff is a bear to cut out windows in. I have to get some 1mm and 2mm and try it out. The sign shop didn't have any, otherwise I could have picked up some scrapes.

Well I'm off to bed.

Good Night All

Good evening gents...a rainy day here today, very heavy overcast, but warm. Like Mike, the Honey-do jar got the attention today, as the CFO said it was time to take the summer curtains down and put up the winter ones...so with long rods up high, across bow windows, it is a two person job.

JP: I definetly feel that there will be some trades this year in the off-season. Curt is in his 40's, Wake is in 40's, there will be changes for sure.

Time for supper, see you guys later..

Good morning and top 'o' the day to all of ye. I'll have the steak and eggs this morning, if it's not too much trouble.

Well, all thats happening in my world today is to get the laundry done and then this afternoon, I have to go work on a sick computer. The guy let his children use it for one hour and now it won't start up in Windows. Bet I know what's wrong with it. We probably all know what this line does: del \windows\*.dll. I've seen it all to often.

Mornin all, just some coffee for now Janie,

Another cloudy rainy day, high bout 75, atleast it not cold. The fall demomderby is tonight, don't think there'll be much of a crowd with kinda weather.

Grandson Mac's here for the weekend, so I've got more help than I need. He's a purrty good kid, somtimes.

ED,,, thanks for the pics, enjoyed them alot. Looks like a nice place to visit someday.

GMT,, the rail trip sounds like fun and great scenery along the way. The stations in Effingham and Mattoon are only open 1 hour before and after train arrival, and you have to have your tickets before hand, can't buy them on the train [what I was told anyway], that's Amtrak for ya.

Jeffery,, I didn't relize Rita got you, know you folks got hit purrty hard back there. When people come togaigther like that in troubled times, kinda give you hope for the future anyway. We got some heavy rain up here from Rita was all.

PC,, glad the move will be on time, and I agree with you you to replace not patch, could lead to trouble down the road

JP, good to hear from you. We'll say a prayer for Bo's family, know what it's like to lose a pet, you really care for.

Found some pics from awhile back I hadn't posted yet, from Findlay, IL. They're rebuilding the UP tracks through there. Found this switch being built along side the tracks. Off to the back round you can see where the tracks slpit, the one to the left goes to Altamont, IL., right all the way to E. St. Louis.

I think the switch is for the elevator siding, the main line goes to Tusola, IL.

That wasn't a very good rail pic trip, no trains at all that day.

Did honey-do chores most the of yesterday, still have a couple to finish up this morning, then it's fun time. Mother has to be over to the fair grounds most the day for the derby and to work on year end reports for the fair, so me an Mac can play in the train room or at in the shed, to wet for much else. hope ya'll has a gooden

Evening Gang: Just a quick one tonight, work tomorrow and 4am comes early.

Jeff: happy that you made it without a scratch. I assume that your housing situation has been resolved. It is one of those great things about us humans that when the going gets tough we dig in and help each other out. A big Well Done to the volunteer FDs, and all the other folks that pitched in.

ED: Thanks for the pictures. I like those critters. We have 2 Plymouths at Six Flags. They are both about 10 ton models. I used to use the 5 ton for working on the animations along the railroad. That was fun.

PC: No need to put up with repairs to a house that is new. If it's new it needs to be new.

I'm off to bed. I'll see you all tomorrow.

Good Night All

Good evening guys, first time in CS today, spend much of the day outside cutting the grass yet again, what a growing season we have had this year with all the rain. Then I had to cut down a big Black walnut tree that was severely damaged by a TS (winds) last month. ED: Those were great pic from your trip, I was surprised to see that there were actually that many locos still there in NF. You should have seen the highlights from Papi 52nd on TV tonight. The 4th grader who caught the ball gave it back to Papi were it will be auctioned off for charity per Papi. He does a lot of charity work in the Boston area, he is one guy in sports who is well grounded. Papi invited him to the locker room after the game, the boy was totally in awe..Papi gave him two autographed baseballs and two of his shirts. He was the "the man" at school today. Something that young man will never forget. Johnnie Pesky gave Papi a big embrace as he came back to the dug out....what a picture that made in the morning newspaper. You can see it online. GMTracing: That was a nice train ride!! Some spectacular scenery, and in color this time of the year that far north. Talk later guys,

Evening all!

Hope this finds everyone well this Friday evening.

Dick –

I was watching the game and emailing back and forth with Ed during it. The only bad part was I had a phone call come in just before Papi got up to bat in the 1st, and missed # 51 as I muted the tv and left the room for a sec. Dang phone calls always come at the worst possible time!

Lots of rumors are showing up on the net and tv about the things the Sox may / may not do this winter. Some good, some not so good. But I have faith in the management and I know that after their ‘no deals’ at the end of July, things will happen come Hot Stove time.

Ed –

Nice pics! Do I sense a hint of Fergie on that engine (980? Or 908?)Evil [}:)] It sure looks like some of his artistic work there! Big Smile [:D]

GMT –

While I have not had the pleasure of riding that line from Albany to Montreal or vise versa, I do know that the line is owned by CP as that’s their route from Scranton PA to Montreal – North to Binghamton, then almost along side I-88 from there to Albany and then that line from Albany to Montreal. CP operates the yard in Taylor (Scranton) for NS. And, if I recall correctly, there might have been a washout or 2 over the spring / summer in that area.

Lisa –

How’s the back doing? Any better? We hope that is the case.

Prayers to those that need them, including Krump.

There was some sad news the other day on the fire side of things. It seems that over the last 16 or so yrs, one of the County Fire Investigators has had a partner of the 4-legged type named Bo working with him. A few yrs back they had to take her off the job due to age and what not, but since the Investigator had adopted her to begin with and then took her into the Fire Investigator Academy, she was able to keep living with him and his family after her release from active fire duty. Well, as with all dogs, once they get too old to do things, they eventually have to be put to rest. Well, on Wednesday, at about 1130 hours, there was a special tone sent out over the pager and radio networks with the sad news that Bo had been put down and requesting a moment of silence in her memory. I’d like to ask the ‘CS family’ to please remember this brave canine and her human family for her job well done and also for the family for their sacrifice in this loss and for allowing Bo to do her job assisting the County (and I am sure the State of NY in some cases) with her intuitive and sensitive nose in weeding out arson criminals. God speed Bo. We here in the Syracuse NY area fire service will not forget you. Thanks!

Ok all, time for me to move on. Have some things to do this weekend (clean the apt, laundry, watch baseball and football, and drink a beer or 2 (one for Bo)).

Take care!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Hurricane Gloria hit CT in the early 1980's.  I was there.

inch, the move in is on schedule.  Well, actually, they moved the close time from 8:00am to 2:00pm because I had them replace a couple of things that they were going to just patch up.  I told them that I was paying for a new house and I wanted a new house, not one that was bandaged together.  I hate being like that, but come on.

Ed, those are some great pics!  We have one of those plymouth loco's around here.  It's even more beat up.  It's rails are sunk into the dirt, so it's stranded till someone digs it out.
