Good evening, just a quick stop by, and a note (sort of) in the music area, especially for the 'younger' Coffee Shoppers (who weren't around since slightly after dirt). [;)]

I'd mentioned earlier about the "take it easy" phrase sounding like it came from a song. Found the lyrics this evening. The phrase (in the form I recalled) is from Woody Guthrie's "Original Talkin' Blues" (somewhere after the 1940's, and still popular around the early 1960's when I learned it in my folk days.:
- - - -
Talkin' blues - a recited poem, comic or polemic in nature, and driven along by a simple rhythmic run or chording on guitar or banjo. There are usually asides between verses. This is from the "Original Talkin' Blues":

"Wanna get to heaven, lemme tell ya how to do it,
Gotta grease your feet in a little mutton suet.
Slide on outa the devil's hand,
Ooze over to the Promised Land.
Take it easy.
Go greasy."

The talkin' blues were popular among protest writers in the 60s and 70s, although few remain today, usually because the topical subject has faded away. The songs (which you might call folk rap) have little or nothing to do with the actual blues.
- - -

This description I found (online) is pretty accurate, as the talking blues format predates rap by dozens of years. The first four lines are rhymed and have a chord progression (though the words are spoken, not sung), and then the chord is held and vamped for the tag/asides (in the above example, the last two 'lines').

Okay, musicology lesson is over for today. ;-) You may return to your regular Coffee Shop programming now... [:)]

Blessings,

Good late evening guys, ohh my God, is it really Sunday night at 11:20pm?? You mean it took me all day Sunday to recoup from the wedding on Saturday ?? Ohhhhhhhh noooooooo!!!!!!!
The weather didn't clear on Saturday, but it didn't rain either, so the horse and buggy was a GO, and Kelly was totally surprised. The wedding was beautiful, we all had a great time, and big THANK YOU to all my friends in the CS for best wishes to Mike and Kelly. I will post pics soon.

CAPE JIM Yup, I got your drift, did you get any wedding cake from Zoe? If not, there is some left, better get there before Fergie or RT.

My #3 son, who was best man for the wedding, was a little bummed out today. It seems he purchased 3 beautiful passenger cars at a show, then placed them on his 4x8 layout only to find out that they could not traverse the curve at the end of the layout. Then he noticed on the boxes ......must be used on min of 22" radius....tsk, tsk. So he has to wait until he builds the around the room layout which will allow greater radius curves. I suppose he could modify the trucks, but it sure wouldn't look very prototypical with all that overhang over the tracks on the curves.

LUC Yes, you looked just great at the wedding, but your dance on the bar was the real hit.

Thats it, I'm still not all "with it, making too many typos, I'm off to bed, see you guys at breakfast, bon soir,
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Good morning crew,

Time for another perfunctory post.

Got a little bit of modeling done this weekend, but not as much as I'd hoped. Scratchbuilt a false-front warehouse, results were OK but not spectacular. I also tried an experiment with painted pillow stuffing as treetops - came out way too dark though, I'll have to keep on playing around with that I guess. As long as I can find acceptable shades of flat green for low enough prices at Wally World, I'm sure I can go this route instead of dumping massive amounts of ca$h into Woodland Scenics.

JimCG - Glad to see you posting here regularly again!

LilRob - Glad you found time to visit, hope your Dad feels better soon and that your Mom gets used to her wooden leg...

RT - I can tell you truly are on the mend once again, the quality of your latest joke says it all..!

Inch - glad to hear Jbird is OK again, hope you're taking it easy too.

Luc, When do you plan on posting that video tour of the Glotown Central?

. . .
I'll continue floating-up prayers for those who need them, now I'd better start doing what I'm being paid to do here...![;)]

Mornin again nother cup Zoe
JERRY sent me another one I couldn't pass up

An Indian walks into a cafe with a shotgun in one hand pulling a male

buffalo with the other. He says to the waiter, "Want coffee." The

waiter says, "Sure, Chief, coming right up."

He gets the Indian a tall mug of coffee. The Indian drinks the

coffee down in one gulp, turns and blasts the buffalo with the

shotgun, causing parts of the animal to splatter everywhere, then just

walks out.

The next morning the Indian returns. He has his shotgun in one hand

pulling another male buffalo with the other. He walks up to the

counter and says to the waiter, "Want coffee."

The waiter says, "Whoa, Tonto! We're still cleaning up your mess

>From yesterday. What was all that about, anyway?"

The Indian smiles and proudly says, "Training for position in United

States Congress: Come in, drink coffee, shoot the bull, leave mess

for others to clean up, disappear for rest of day."

Hi, all. Just a lunch time quickie. Have been reading at break times but I'm working overtime for a couple months and with warmer weather spending more time on yard work. My posting and mrr time have suffered, even more than usual.

[#welcome] to the new faces, the ones I've noticed and any I may have missed.

Hope everyone and their families are getting back to good health.

Good to see Elliot back, I wondering if we would get a change in the heading at two years. [:D]

Hi Gang: Here I am at work again. Today I stopped by the canteen and picked yp an order of chicken strips with fries. I'll save half for tomorrow.

KenL : try using Rite dyes for coloring foam. I use it here at work when I make ground foam for the pond scum. It is very inexpensive and easy to very the color or darkness. Start out with a little and if it isn't dark enough dye again with just a touch more. Remember that a little goes a long way.

Inch and RT: is this what happens when you have too much time on your hands? A joke contest. I'm plumb out right our I'd join in. At least this isn't a largest word contest.

Well I need to file out a vacation request for a couple of last years floating holidays. Ed's coming on the 29th and I will need that week end off.

See you all in the funny papers.

Hi all

Still loading and sorting the RV for tomorrow, took it out for a test run (it’s been laid up since last September) and all seems well, no funny noises or unusual gauge readings.

Jim, forgetting to close the bow doors is what did for the Herald of Free Enterprise back in 1987 – since then they’ve had to install CCTV so the officers on the bridge can see that everything is closed and locked before casting off. Interestingly most lines seem to have dumped the “visor” style bow (where the whole thing lifts) in favour of horizontally-opening doors, which should be stronger in rough weather and avoid the fate of the Estonia.

Rob, I’m not sure what to use to be honest – I’ve heard of people using photo paper and gluing it on, but was hoping to use the labels as they’re already adhesive. I’ll have to think about this one a bit!

Bye for now

Good Day CS! [:D]

I’ll have a tall banana smoothie, please, and while I play catch up on the last 6 pages you all posted since Friday. It doesn’t take long for them to add up, so what is going to be the next posting milestone? [(-D]

I did get the lawn mowed Friday evening and it only took me 45 minutes with the push mower, so a riding mower is out of the question. I think I will also pass on the sheep grazing idea too, not enough rope to keep them all tied up. Now, my next door neighbor who has almost 2 acres of lawn just bought a new John Deer riding mower and paid $1800 for it at Lowe’s. Apparently the previous owner of our house possessed a riding mower, and the next door neighbor was borrowing it to take care of his property too. I suppose he was waiting to see if I was going to buy a riding mower and borrow it from me too, no such luck. The 45 minutes is not much more that what it took me to mow in New Orleans. Since our property has a lot of landscaping with mulch, the actual lawn area is not that much larger.

And it rained all day Saturday, so getting the lawn done Friday was a blessing! We needed the rain too, we are under water restrictions here in Wake County and there is no sign of them being lifted. We are supposed to be way behind on total expected rainfall, but they say it does rain here a lot in April, “…April showers bring May flowers.”

So, I started my fourth week here at my new job and everything is going great. I even get time to browse the MR forum and can still get all my work done.

Hey RT How are doing? Wow! Nice staples, almost looks like a RR track there! Hope the recovery is progressing, thoughts and prayers are with you!!

John Wood, I like the idea of upgrading the culinary listing in the title, the girls have gotten better and progressed much from the boiling water stage. [C=:-)]

Speaking of the food listing in the title, I made some great [dinner]Banana Pecan Pancakes [dinner] Sunday morning, and my bride just loved em, oh, and my son too!. So, you can add them to the CS menu, OK! Slapped a little butter and maple syrup on them and their good to go… Yum!!!! [dinner]

Inch, I have scraped the whole sheep idea, I might be tempted to have them for dinner before they can eat all the lawn.

[:D] BTW, funny one thanks! Tonto have keen understanding of system!

Also, I gave up mountain oysters for lent! [(-D]

[wow] Great graphics Luct and Lupo! [wow]

Hey Matt, [tup] Glad to here you finished that project, bet it was a lot of work to complete, especially if there was a deadline attached. In reference to transportation, the diesel would be a great alternative too. But for now I have decided to keep my current truck and just run it as long as I can, saves on a new loan note and hopefully I can get another 10 years out of it. Maybe by then the hybrids will cost less and maybe even get better milage.

Hey pcarrol, Thanks for the money, going to go down to the local newsstand and have them break it into thousands for me. [:)]

Jim in Cape Girardeau [:D] Glad you made it through the storms, we get them a day or too later down and thankfully we dodge the bullet again. As far as the taxes go we did check the Katrina deductions and were able to deduct all our un-reimbursed damages and expenses due to the storm and evacuation. Since our insurance only covered some of our damages and we paid a $2,750 deductible we figured we should get something back. Also, thanks for the RDC explanation! That did refresh my fading memory, my “old timers” must have been kickin’ in, and it gets in the way of remembering everything.

Have a great day!

Sounds like you're not too bad off, it takes me about 2 hours with a 42" zero-turn commercial mower. The other guy...well, he got ripped. Anything that says John Deere on it is priced WAAAAY to high, especially when they don't make anything less than about 150 horsepower. The clothing is what really gets me, the dealership is supposed to give out caps for free, but people who have never even seen a Deere go to the mall and pay $15 for a cap!?!?!!?!

There is, or was, a product called “Decal It”. It looks like white glue, and is painted onto any print medium from which you want to make a decal, such as your labels. Several coats are required, and the stuff lifts the inks into itself as it dries, forming a transfer of the original. I’ve not tried it, just had the product on hand for a couple of decades.[B)] Might be worth investigating.

Ryan:

…and they have yet to lose an order! That happened to us at the Smitty’s in Truro on Sunday. At any rate that’s what we think happened. We arrived at 12:25. We ordered and waited. Dan had to ask 3 times for his cutlery, as he was 7th man at a 6 person table. The drinks arrived. The table behind us was being set. Customers were moved there from the main restaurant. They were served, ate, and left. Still nothing for us. Finally a roll and a salad arrived split between two people. Another party arrived, ordered, and were served at the table behind us. Just enough of our order was in place to prevent us from walking out, plus, we would have had to wait all over again anywhere else we might have gone. Still no main course meal served. I had eaten my emergency candy by this time, and its effect was wearing off. When our grand daughter’s bagel order (instead of roll) arrived, it was not what she had asked for, and there was only a choice between two kinds of bagel – how difficult is this to get right. Moreover, she had asked for “no hash browns” but got them anyway! Eventually we were all served, but some had finished before others began! We had finally eaten by 2:20! The second party at the table behind us were lined up to pay just behind us. I asked them what time they had come in. 1:15! They were shocked to learn we had been there since 12:25. The restaurant knew they had fouled up because they took all the drinks and peripherals off the bill, and gave us the 10% Senior’s discount on the whole thing without our having to “ask to see the manager”. Not the most brilliant birthday lunch for our daughter.[sigh]
Thanks for letting me rant [soapbox] We won’t be going back any time soon.[V]
Your Banana Pecan Pancakes sound worth a try.

There looks to be quite a gang in today. I’m heading out after tea.

There 2 gay guys living together. The one has been out of work for long time. He comes home one night all happy and says to his partner honey, honey guess what, I got a job and I start tomorrow, the other gay guy is all happy, so they head up stairs to play. The gay guy with the new job wakes up bright and early and takes a shower and get dressed. He heads down stairs for a quick breakfast he doesn't want to be late for his first day on the new job. When he walks into the kitchen theres his bubby jerker off in a zip lock bag, he looks at him and saids what are you doing. His buddy saids I am just packing you lunch for your first day on the new your new job. lol

Good afternoon gents, a beautiful day here today, 60's and clear skies. Did more yard work, getting ready for 3rd and final burn. Lots of brush clearing, a couple of trees needed to come down, so the chain saw made swift work of them. Now it is time to get ready for the last week of men's bowling league, and we are holding on to 1st place by 4 points. So if we split tonight, we take 1st place money ( I can see the LHS in the distance!!!! )

DER JOHN You must have a lot of patience my man, I would be on someones case if I had to wait that long while the people beside me were served and left...I would say that your server was a 1st class dingbat, or the manager also who was not paying attention to the lack of service at your table.....I suppose you left a BIG TIP [;)] ??

SILVER SPIKE We watch channel 46 up here in the morning for news, it is called NECN ( New England Cable News ) and covers all of New England for news and weather. A few weeks ago a new morning anchor lady arrived, and she was from a big station in New Orleans. Their house was badly damaged and she took her daughter and headed back north ( family up here ) and got a job at the same affiliate station here. Her husband is a detective on the NO police force, and is living out of his car while he repairs their home for sale before he joins his family back north. It iws amasing to me how many people have relocated permanently from NO.
I am real happy for you and your wife that you have a new home and life is getting back to normal for you both.
BTW, the push mower will keep you in great health, you really need about an acre of grass or more to justify a ride-on, unless you get a real good buy on one, are given one, or pick one up that needs repair and you are handy with mechanical repairs.

LUC Do you have your garden planted yet?? I hear that John is planning to beat both you and Fergie this year in raising the largest Zuchini.....any truth in this rumor? I also hear that Fergie uses sea weed for fertilizer.

I'm sorry but I don't think the last joke belongs in here as we do have some that are very young in here. I know I got carried away with my stupid jokes but I did not go to semi fowl jokes I ask to have that type refrained from in here for the sake of the young ones if this was a pure adult site I wouldn't be saying anything

Howdy y'all. A rousing hello from H-Town.

Trolley Rob: I'm not too worried about it. The simple fact that they were almost falling over themselves makes me believe that they haven't been skating all too often. If there was a roller derby team around here, I'd like to know where. There is a speed team...But I'm not paying any $30 a month to have a few more sessions available to me.[B)]

RT: I'll agree with you on the comment about the previous joke...[xx(]

Jim in CG: The phrase "Take it easy" also came from the song "Take It Easy" by The Eagles.

"Take it easy, take it easy,
Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy.
Lighten up while you still can,
Don't even try to understand.
Just find a place to make your stand,
And take it easy."

[:D][:D][:D]

Talk to y'all later.

Dave: I agree with RT and Scott. That kind of "joke" is not appreciated. You are appreciated, but just can the dirt. [V] [V]

Good Evening Gang:

Not much going on here. The VA has sent me another bill for drugs that I can't remember the doctor perscribing. I can't even remember having the symptoms they are for. Any this time they also billed me for drugs that I know are under my service related disability. Now don't get me wrong I think that the VA has been great toward mebut like any burocracy things get screwed up. Tomorrow I'll call and probably get things more screwed up.

I think that I'll head for the basement and take a dose of MRRing.

Good Night All
