Teffy, I've emailed to Rex and he had some good ideas for layout and benchwork. I need to send him my last revision. I tried to modify it so it could connect with the usual (two mailine tracks) module (but the version before this required fouling the mailine for switching, so I changed it and put sort of a drill track next to the mainline tracks). I'll put it on my railimages page(s).

Zoe, looks like the rest are gone for now. I'll finish my cup and take one of those croissants to go, please.

Hi Gang; I'll let you know how the GATS show turns out. I'm not expecting much as the GATS have been smaller than the locally organised shows. At least we are having the opertunity to have the show. We could be in Ed's shoes.

Sad to hear about the coffee shop over on the garden forum. I guess I'll have to E-mail Tim and find out the rest of the story.

I took my pocket change into the bank today. Would you believe $73? It pays to bend over and pick up those loose pennys. It also helps the gut stay in. Altho at my age a steel reinforced girdle would probably work well to.

Tomorrow I'm going to call Woodland Senics and ask them how much ground foam would cost by the gallon. That should be an interesting conversation. I'll let you know about that to.

I'm going to hit the bed now. It takes so long to catch up even when it's only one days worth.

The weather forecasters from Boston were fooled by this ocean storm that is now backing further inland. It started as freezing rain about 5pm, then by 7 we had heavy wet snow. We now have 2" on the ground and they are forecasting up to 5" for this area. This will not be the 18:1 fluff factor snow like the big storm two weeks ago, this will be very heavy stuff, the kind that coats everything and is 4 times heavier to shovel or SB.
I guess the Groundhog (Phil) was correct yesterday, that little critter!![:(!][:(!][V]

Rob, it sounds real nice up there in Ontario. We have not been up there since 1978 when we travelled 2000 miles on a camping trip with the 4 kids and a tent. We travelled through Hamilton and Lion Country Safari, camped at Fort Henry, Granby, and on the St. Lawrence about 5 miles from St. Anne's Shrine before heading south into NH via Gould and Chartierville.

Der John, I was very lucky, I never hit the ground, the railings saved me from falling. We have some similar attachments for shoes/boots down here too, but I never have used them, although there have been times that I said I was going to purchase some.
I will let you know how the "cloud formations" build, I am going to study the tape first, that is the engineer in me coming out, I am one of those guys that reads all the manuals and instructions first, tsk, tsk.

Ed, you are looking goooood with your mountain formation, you need more rainy days don't you!!! just kidding.

Its almost gotten me twice this year, and 8 cats schooling around your feet like feline sharks dosn't make my steps any more sure. I need to get some rails up. As Pa Kettle used to say, gonna have to fix that someday, ma!
Ed- I'll try to make this short- 3 years ago, my then girlfriend, Candy, called me up on a Thur and said she was going to Savannah on Sun, would I like to go. I hemmed and hawed finally said sure, we went and I fell in love with the town. River St, the main tourist area, is paved with the ballast stones of the sailing ships from the 1700 and 1800 era, there is a track running down the middle of it (Abandoned now,ex NS, had a switcher painted in gaudy colors and playing loud jazz to keep the people from getting mooshed, called the River St Rambler- Athearn has a nice model of it, BTW) and River St fronts on the Savannah River, which has container ships plying it day and night. History oozes from every inch of the city, there are 2 field pieces given to the city by G.Washington . in the park across from where we stayed and on the other side was the Pirates House, where "Treasure Island " was inspired. The city is beautiful, built around city squares (mini parks) and the Savannah natives are some of the nicest people I've ever met. If you have never been there, and are a fan of history, laid back attitudes and great food-Paula Deans "Lady and Sons" is there and Churchill's pub has shepperds pie to die for,- I couldn't recommend it enough as a vaca destination. Since I started going with Amyjo, I feel that we need to make some memories of our own, and I think she'll love it too.

Teffy- Been to Bull St Hobbys and you are so right, she is a sweetheart to deal with. I usually spend at least an hour or two there each visit. And more money than I should. We stayed (and are staying) at the Mulberry, it's on the edge of the Historical District, but still within e-z walking distance , which is another reason I love that town. I hope she still has her dog there, he's a punkin.
dave9999- For the past 30 years...wow, 30 years, anyway, we have spent 2 or 3 weeks a year on Cumberland Mt in Va (on the Ky line) camping and 4 wheeling (Jeeps). It's not a campground, just a mountain where you can do some real camping. Just a few years ago (see my reply to Ed) I started taking one week and going on what i call "soft" vacas. It gets me out of winter for a bit, and I've come to really enjoy the time in hotels and king size beds and the such. But, this year, we already have a week planned for the mountain, where i plan to ask Amyjo to marry me.(shhhhhh, its a secret) It's kind of where we hooked up the first time, so brother, anytime you want to go camping, even if it's only in spirit, I'm with you. In fact, if they would do away with this fine Shop, I would suggest starting a thread called the campfire. BTW, the mountain we camp on sits on the only mainline switchback in the US, Hagans Switchback on the CSX(ex Family Lines and Clinchfield) and the track winds all the way around the mt, sitting at the fire and hearing the whistles echoing thru the hollows is a memory I would'nt trade for anything.
Tom- Thanks for the elevations, sounds like you are in Gods country. The highest point in Indiana is 1278 ft (I think) a few miles south of me,not quite as impressive.
Jim in Mo- Yeah, them critters with them fur coats don't care if its winter or not. If somebody grabbed Punx Phil and shaved him, I'll bet he would make an effort to shorten winter anyway he could. I would'nt want to be the one to try shaving him,mind you. That could shorten your winter by a bunch!
Bill- Hey, I know the guys who own those dives, and they would'nt care if it was dry or not- And I know the cops in this burg, they like a sip themselves every now and then, so I say SET 'EM UP!!!!.

Good Mornin' Everybody,
It's a frosty morning in the mountains this morning, but it's supposed to warm up later. The coffee is particularly good this morning and I'm on my umpteenth cup.It's going to be a beautifully clear day.

Today will be mostly a work day. The color selection committee was having second thoughs on the color for the chair rail, so wisely I think, I backed off until the situation resolved itself. The original decision has been confirmed, so I need to get them cut and installed. I also need to get the floor measured so I can get the new flooring. I will take the time to occassionally slip off to the basement to glue up additional pieces of foam, so progress will continue.

Big Girl, welcome back! What has Big Boy got you doing on the portable layout?

Grayfox, be careful. We really don't bounce as well as we used to, and since gravity always wins, we can't stay airborne either.

Ed, as soon as I get the bathroom finished, I'm going to start looking seriously for a workable digital camera. It's an idea whose time has come. I love my old metal frame Nikon, but a digital camera will make a lot of things much easier.

JimRCGMO, be glad it's gone to the weeds. I am, it spent far too long as a Plywood Pacific. I'm also very glad that I spent the time changing the things I wasn't happy with, rather than just living with them. It was time well spent.

Paul, I hope you enjoy the GATS show. Even though the quality does vary, I always enjoyed them and found stuff that made them worth the trip.

Mitchell, welcome back. I wondered where you were, since you hadn't been around for a bit.

Philnrunt, you're right. Savannah is a beautiful city, and a lot of fun. River Street is a cool place to hang out. Good luck, your secret is safe with us, and we'll look forward to celebrating with you.

Good morning guys ( Tammy said she is one of the guys too, real MRR person, way to go Tammy !!! )

I am looking outside the computer room window this morning at the most beautiful winter scene one can imagine. We had 4 inches of heavy, sticky wet snow last night, and all the trees are laden with snow, especially the Spruce trees. I am going to get a few shots with the 35mm before the sun melts the snow.

Tim, Phil, thanks for the kind words, and I "do" know what it like to have the family cat all around your legs when trying to navigate slippery stairs. My neighbor fell down her cellar stairs several years ago when her little dog (Lapso) got her leech caught around the poor woman's leg ( age 80) tripping her, and causing her to fall several stairs. She was only bruised luckily, but she landed square on the dog and killed it. Some lessons here for sure!

Tim, I have been to Southern Cal years ago, very nice area indeed, and certainly wonderful weather most of the year. I went to Sequoia and Yosemite too while I was out there.

We just looked out at the bird feader, and there are over 10 ROBINS out there !!! This is crazy!!! There are no Robins up in NE in February!!! They all go down to Tom's home in GA!! What is goin g on here???? Are they trying to tell us something???[%-)][%-)][%-)][:O][?][?]

The grandkids have a 2 hour school delay today due to the slippery roads, so I have to run now and pick them up for a ride to their bus stop 1/2 mile away. My daughter -inlaw cannot get down off her mountainous driveway, it is a skating rink.

Walked some of that Algonquin Park roadbed back when we used to camp in the Park. I was surprised at how narrow some of the rock cuts are, there couldn't have been much clearance if it was a standard guage line. I guess the Robber Barons didn't waste blasting powder[(-D]

***: Have you tried the New Brunswick Big Loop snowmobile trail? It goes pretty much right around the Province. (I'm not usually a NB booster as their tourism ads bore us to death by constant repitition, but NB is closer to you, and I'm told the BL is quite the ride. We get the ads because Bell ExpressVu feeds us a New Brunswick rather than a Nova Scotia ad mix - go figure!)

Tom, I've turned her into a "schlepper" and a "go-fer". She has helped me with all aspects of the portable, and did a great job for a rookie. After a few hours of sitting there listening to me talk to the visitors, she started answering questions herself. The truth is, without her help, I couldn't or wouldn't do it at all.

Of course after all was said and done, it cost me a prime rib dinner (for 2), but I ain't complainin'.[swg]

Good morning all just stopped by for a quick mitchell speacial for lunch[:p][dinner][:0]. Der yes it was a standard gauge route and since it was owned by JRR Booth they likely didn't use blasting powder for the rock cuts.It's actually the mainline for the old Ottawa arnprior and parry sound Railway,Canadian Northern and therefore CN used the park roue up untill the mid fifties.They maintained the Algonquin park station and ran summer passenger service into the campgrounds. For our US members Algonquin Park is a provincial park in central ontario 4 hours north of toronto and it is as big as the state of Texas quite a park with excellent lakes ,dfishing camp grounds and wild life preserves. The old mattawa roundhouse from the OA&PS is still standing as of last year the town wants to save it and make a comunity centre out of it so I Hope they succeed. Well i'm off to work[V][:(][B)]and will have a busy weekend ahead,no mrring unfortunatly[:(]but lots of full size I will likely spend a good part of sat night and sunday at the museum readying some new rolling stock for our 10,000th post winner[^][^][^]Have a good afternoon folks. Good Morning Coffee Club! Another cold and gray day here in the 'Big Easy'! But, it's Mardi Gras time down yonder in New Orleans... and you know what it means. Lots of bozos out, so watch out for flashing body parts! Anyway, the parades have been rolling every night for over a week now and tonight are the Krewe of Hermes and Krewe de'tate, both are old line Krewe’s that have been around since the early 1920's. That will be the only ones I will see this year, the floor tile for the train room is going in this weekend, or should I say over the next five days I will be working on the renovations. Since our building is located on Saint Charles Avenue (Major Mardi Gras parade route) we are closed Monday through Wednesday, so a five-day weekend coming up, yea!!!!!! Also, many of the executives in the company ride in the big parades on the weekend, Endymion and Bacchus on Saturday and Sunday nights respectively. This town is going to get crazy!!!!

Just found out that our next door neighbor is going out of town for the Mardi Gras and we are going to be watching their house, walking and feeding their greyhound, taking in the mail, that stuff. Many people here leave the city and fly up to Colorado and Utah for the ski thing! How’s the snow up there?

Another Cafe Au Lait for me and some King Cake! Oh, King Cake, if you are not sure what a King Cake is, let me know, I can let you all about it later!

I'm pulling for the Eagles, but I know the Pats will win anyway! I like the underdog, heck the closest the Saints ever get to the Super bowl is that New Orleans hosts the event every 10 years or so!!!

I’m pretty sure it’s the same. It’s just that the blue is made by Dow, while the pink is the trademark color for Owens-Corning. I thought I might wind up with some pink on mine from the overspray being blown south from Texas!!

Btw, I agree with the comment you made on the “favorite part of the hobby” thread. I expect that the scenery will make a huge difference and really make the layout come alive.

Since I'm not an Eagles or Pats fan, I'm going to watch the SB for the commercials. I realy enjoyed the one last year about the prim and proper lady sitting in the horse drawn sleigh hold a candle when the horse farted. Their was an explosion and it singed her coat, hair, and face and then they told you to buy something. I was laughing so hard that I couldn't hear what they were selling. That commercial went on to win an ad equivalent of an Oscar.

Well I popped another squirrel this morning, I think that Mother Nature is producing them faster then I can take them out.

I stayed at the Mulberry one time when someone just charterd the bus. Had a bad experience, I hit the awning with the mirror and put about a 3" tear in it. I paid $750.00 for the repairs, which I thought was too much.

When we used to do ski charters, we'd always ask people where they were from as we rode up the ski lift and I was amazed how many people were from NO during Mardi Gras. It was explained to me that they left the city to all of the "imported" drunks. Sounds like that's what your neighbor is doing. I don't envey you with the good time people.

Hi Mitchell - was beginning to wonder if you caught some bug. Good to see you back, even briefly. Interesting name for your RR - are you doing like some of us and borrowing some details from one area/RR and others from another?

Yes, the airport is just as busy with the incomming crowd as the residents trying to escape, maybe even more leaving than coming in! It is a nightmare for a week plus around here. Streets closed during parades, people all drunk and disorderly, etc... We have gone to Florida and the Gulf Coast during Mardi Gras too, but this year working on the renovations.

It's warming up here in S.E. Missouri, 54 gourgeous degrees (F - that'd be... 12 or so C.). There's this round yellow ball in the sky, too (Nifty!).[8D]

SuperBowl - is that some kind of breakfast commercial? (as he ducks the thrown shoes, tomatoes and bricks....)[}:)][;)] Teffy, I'm with you - I *always* watch for the commercials. But then again, when was the last time a St. Louis football team did that well (except for the Rams when Kurt Warner was their QB)? Anyone remember the phrase 'Cardiac Cardinals'? [;)]

"Characters"? - I think Tammy has us pegged, guys.[:)]

So Ed, does that mean that Owens-Corning made the paint that Teffy is trying to remove from his house (and vehicles, and grass, and...)?[(-D][oops] And (not talking about football, but the 10K post here) look at the spread - later April to August. Someone will be 'close' to the actual date with that much coverage!

This afternoon after work I'll pick up some paper to start laying out (life-size) my track plan. Is there anything lighter than that brown wrapping paper that comes in rolls (about 3' wide)? That I can go readily buy, that is. If I could find something near white, I could use colored pencils to get a better 'sketch' of how things will look. Any suggestions for the paper? I'll check back before I leave work today (around 4:30-4:45 or so, Central time).

Do you have a local butcher shop that wraps it's meats in that white butcher paper? Many local Po-Boy shops (subs or heros the rest of the world) in town use the white paper here. Restaurant supply houses carry the white butcher paper.
