"The Railroad Press Magazine"
Posted by citylimits on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 9:43 PM

Included in my latest order from Walthers was this single card inviting subscriptions to The Raiolroad Press Magazine, published quarterly, the copy in the small flyer promote this magazine as having, "Book Quality Photography...."

Iam thinking that this publication - if it's a helpful a modeling tool as it states then a subscription $24.00 for one year, may be a useful purchase in tandem with Model Railroader - not as a substitute.

Does anybody on this Forum already subscribe to, "The Railroad Press Magazine" or have any helpful information regarding it as a good source for detailing scene's and models?

Many thanks

I buy copies of The Railroad Press at Borders. If you want to look one over before you commit to a subscription you could go to the nearest Borders. They are with the transportation magazines (cars, planes, boats, etc.) and not the hobby magazines. As for the content, there isn't current news like Trains or Railfan. The pictures are pretty good and have a lot of "flavor" to them. How much help they would be to modeling depends on how narrow your focus is. They do have some articles that are very specific as to time and place but it's a big country and nobody is going to cover it all. I enjoy reading it even if it's not about my particular modeling area or era. Werner

I don't know how useful the magazine might be for your particular modeling, but I can say the owner is a very pleasant and helpful person to deal with. I once purchased a couple of their books (over the phone) and while discussing how to ship them to me, he mentioned he was going to be coming up through my area in the next couple of days anyway and would drop them off!

I have purchased a couple of issues of this magazine before, mainly when they've had articles on subjects that interested me.  They do provide quite a bit of detail, and the photos are usually quite good.  that's just my opinion, though...I'd go to your nearest bookstore to try and find a copy to look at first.

My 2 cents
