10-4 good buddy.
"Rust, whats not to love?"
This forum change, not so good in my opinion. Format is inferior to the old one.
Aggro--
Stick with it, it took me a little while, also.
But if you're back, it can't HELP but improve!

Aggro,
It has taken me a while to adjust, but I am getting there. How are you doing on your layout redo?

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
The thread columns are so narrow! Adds along the sides now.
Since my personal modeling has been on pause, for lack of funds. My layout has looked the same for a while now. I viewed it a great, but I think I got bored of looking at the same thing all the time. Somthing needed to change. I can't totally erase and rebuild, so I foucused on what I can do. One day I just start removing everything off 1/4 of the SP&E. Tore it all up. Trees, bushes, etc. All but the trackage, that needed to stay. I'm currently recontouring the torn up areas to look totally different. New glueshelling. They shall be barren. A Southern California dessertish dry thing that area will become. Thats a change. It'll have to do for now.
I just can't bring myself to sell my BLI A class. That would give the finacial boost to get some of the fresh materials needed to restart my little layout. (some new flextrack, 1 x 3 boards, couple of masonite sheets, some 2" foam board, gallons of ballast, stc.)
Hell as long as I can keep my family in our house then I'm alright.
I always have seen California when I see your layout photos. And I know that sometimes we just change our goals of what we like. Larry and I have made so many changes. What a mess when you tear something out. But the reward is worth it.
Are you thinking of the Four Corners area with the Joshua trees? Or something like Bishop?
Might I suggest something like the Eastern Sierra Nevada--the mountains crash right into high desert country and the result is pretty spectacular. You could model anything from Lone Pine or Bishop in the south to as far north as Susanville in Lassen County and come up with some pretty spectacularly contrasting scenery. In fact the contrast in scenery might just be what you need to get jump-started. Your work is always such an inspiration to the rest of us, that I know you could do terrific things with this.
Bwwwhaaa Tom can you direct me to photo graphs of said locale?
Well, said locale runs for about 300 odd miles from Lone Pine in the south to Susanville in the north. There is one railroad book that covers it (in black and white photos) called RAILROADS OF NEVADA AND EASTERN CALIFORNIA, Vol. 1 by David Myrick. What you might do is check the local library for some photo albums of the Sierra Nevada, or possibly a book about US 395, which parallels this country north to south.
Actually, if you can arrange it, the best thing to do to see a portion of it up close would be to take a drive up Hwy 50 to Carson City, then hit US395 north through Reno toward Susanville. That would put you right in the middle of the transitional area, with the Sierra to your west and the desert to the east. It would be probably about a 6-8 hour drive, but it would be worth it.
Larry and I have been through there in the truck. Mountains drop off to flat.
Lone Pine Chamber of Commerce has a video clip that can show you the lay of the land.
