The post looked OK to me. If you see your line going on and on simply press right-shift-enter. The current line will be ended and you can start again on the next line. That's what I do.

Give me a slice of pie (apple), and some milk.  I have a sweet tooth.

Lets see......went to the store this morning and got some candy half off.  Went to do some train hunting, and picked the wrong tracks.  The train was on the other side of the river.  I did get to see a CSX Dead, pulling coal cars.

Layout wise, nothing.  I did finish up my cement.  I WILL NEVER DO ONE AGAIN!!!  Man was it a head ache.  A couple of small pieces broke.  Forgot to put certain pieces on Black Eye.  I guess it looks ok.  Give me a week or so, and let me weather it up.  Try to make it look a little better.

Oh and I steam vaccumed, and went to put the machine up........smashed my finger and busted it wide open.  UGH!!!  Thats the same finger I cut wide open at work a month ago.  My poor little finger.

Well everybody have a goodnight.  Stay warm.  Its going to be 68 here tomorrow Cool.

Evening, Diners, and Chloe, I'd just like a hot cocoa, please. Thank you.

A Happy Boxing Day to our Northern brethren, and a belated Merry Christmas to our SOTB Diners. (Either border... Ed?)Wink

Heartland Division CB&Q
Bob K.  Thanks for stopping by and for the greeting. Please stop in again soon. I hope you and the kids are doing fine this Christmas.

, Bob K. Don't be a stranger to the Diner, now that you've found the new place.

PC, saw your post, and sent you an email. My AngelAngel are with those of you waiting here, until you are reunited. I enjoyed your Christmas card. That's a nifty - what? - stencil? cutout? drawing? Looks great, anyway.

Rob, at the rate you're getting circus things for you wife's layout, you'd better start planning the addition to the train room...Oops Nice stuff, though.Smile Sorry to hear about Bacon Bits. Friend of my ex-wife had one of those pigs, and it was her inside pet. I don't think I'd do that, though, but maybe just me. I'd agree, I don't think you got Bacon Bits with the tractor.

Gee, a guy misses a day or two in the Diner, Inch, and all the divinity and other goodies are gone! SadDinner Ah, well, I've been trying to show some restraint in my eating habits lately. Not expecting (and it'd be thinking unrealistically if I were) that I'd lose any pounds, but just wanted to try to avoid further damage.

I was rather disappointed to find that our church wasn't having either Christmas Eve or Day services (what!? Shock), so I went to a couple of other churches - 11 p.m. at the one where I used to go (saw a couple of friends), and Christmas Day 'Simple Eucharist' at 10:15 a.m. (somewhat small showing, but  fairly casual for the sermon/dialogue) (that was at the church denomination I attended when I was little). Doesn't feel like Christmas without going to church (IMHO). Daughter and son-in-law (when I called Christmas Day to see about coming over) were heading to a town where her mother's high school friends live. I made a comment about I'd love to actually spend one holiday this next year with them, on the holiday...Whistling (Yeah, that's a bit of a sore subject for me, and I've mostly avoided mentioning how I feel to Sarah)...

Inch, for your log notches, what about a small round or triangular file (think like those ones that came in the little X-acto tool kit), one that tapers down to a point? The plastic case I have for mine is kinda worn out, but the tools have held up well. Or see if you can find a place that carries 'jeweler files' (not the pricey kind, though) and that might be small enough for you, I'd think. Sorry to hear about your uncle's passing. We had our main receptionist's husband die early last Monday morning, and he'd been sick for a while. Went to visitation on Tuesday after work, and the funeral was supposed to be Wed. a.m. As others have said, this is a hard time of the year to lose a loved one.

Sawyer, is that a 'U-boat'? (Ah, I see it is) I like the railway on it - looks great in those colors. Thumbs Up

Ray, if that's you in the pic - nice beard, you just need to bleach it around this time of year... Smile,Wink, & Grin Those lanterns look like a really neat present (and as you said, she didn't fancy them up!).

Robby, I like your backdrop - is maybe the thing that bothers you that some of the trees are in kind of lines? Myself, I intentionally try to make trees as randomly placed as I can tell. So you might just be able to add a couple trees here and there to break up any 'lines' and make it more to your liking. An idea, anyway.

Packers#1
I can just see some kids out there with a jackhammer and some quickrete trying to make one.

Sawyer, your imagination would see that, you rascal! EvilWink Oh, you're right on that word - I recall it was called "Robin Hood and his band of merry men"...

BC (at risk of sounding greedy) - 15 boxcars plus the RS11? Can your family adopt me (but me stay down here in the warmer climes)?

Jeff, hate to think what you could've eaten if you'd really been hungry!Laugh That sounds like a meal in itself for those enchiritos things.

Dick, it's good to hear that good manners are still alive along the East Coast. I'm sure the utilities workers felt similarly, as well. Thanks for the word on DerJohn's outage as well. Hope he gets back in to the Diner before long.

Tomorrow afternoon, we might have some windy/stormy weather, and might even have possible twisters. So watch out for yourselves, Garry, Inch, and our Ohio and Indiana Diners!

I need to wind this post up before my battery dies on my laptop. See you all in the morning for breakfast. Chloe, ask the weekend gals to make sure the waffle iron is wamred up and ready to go, please. Thanks!

Prayers for healing and blessings for all you Diners and your families,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Big ole piece of Custard pie please and a cup of coffee thank you

Well I just did the smartest thing I’ve done in days. Pulled a post off of another thread about not wishing Merry Christmas. Whew was I on a rant.SoapBox Got me at just the right time. It wasn’t that they didn’t give well wishes, but my gosh the reasons they gave were….uhhhh. I noticed a couple of you guys were there and behaved yourselves well. Good example, and like a good boy I followed. I got wise and deleted it before posting.

Rob- sorry to hear of the loss in your extended family. I must admit a few years ago a pot -bellied pig to me was just a small pig. However since then I’ve learned of the intelligence and the ability of these little fellows to become quite like a member of the family much like a cat or dog etc. And to behave in quite human like ways as is evident by Sweet-peas reaction. How sad it is when they leave this earth, my condolences.

And you have got to be kidding!! I did not doubt you about your contractor problems but that…..!

Ray-Thumbs Up

Sounds like here we are going to have some warmth but a deluge until tomorrow about 6:00pm. If it was snow we might not be able to open the doors. We’d have to dig a tunnel for Missy (the dog) to go out and potty.

Wow my eyes are crossing tonight and the print is hard for me to make out and I'm hitting more wrong keys than there are on this keyboard. Guess I’d better head for snooze land. Goodnight all

Well, found out we are going to go up to 13C tomorrow. That and buckets of rain---anyone near any creeks or rivers watch out---not that you are walking too close to the edge. They don't anticipate anyserious flooding here but.....   ---don't you just love buts?

A Chamomile tea, please & thanks.

Thank you all for the kind sentiments regarding the loss of our Bacon Bits. (that would sound funny to anyone not knowing she was a P-B-Pig) Anyway, we are fine, it's not the first loss of a four legged friend and it won't be the last. Bacon was a rescued pig, as is Sweet Pea. Sweet Pea was a Trick Pig, although we never learned half her tricks or the cue words/signals for them. She demonstrated some when she first arrived here. Now she is an elderly little pig.

Tomorrow the temp hits 70, so it will be a good day for painting with the windows open.

Good night all. Cowboy Rob

Good morning.

It's 70 and cloudy out here by the lake while we wait for the thunderstorms to move in. The high will be in the mid 70's.

Went to town yesterday and got the refunds on some gifts I couldn't use (wrong scale) then went to Alexandria and picked up an Athearn GP38-2 in UP paint with my Christmas money. UP fans need not be alarmed. I'm not going to repaint it. I got it because I needed a new chassis for one of my existing units that had a cracked frame and seemed to specialize in shorting out on turnouts. The UP shell is now on the old cracked chassis and is decorating my display rack. Transplanting the decoder from the old chassis to the new one and relinking the two locos of the consist back together was child's play and took about 10 minutes.

Good Morning. We are having pea-soup fog that will disapate later this morn followed by rain--winds at 20kmh today. High 12C Sunday is expected to be rain turning to periods of light snow in the afternoon with the temps going from 10C down to -3C in the afternoon. Winds will go from the W at 50-80kmh in the afternoon.

'Spring' is 'Springing' all over the place---found another of his bird toys so off he goes---I try to get it from him and he gives me a low growl/grunt---he's a happy cat....Smile,Wink, & Grin---goes stalking off with his toy like it is prey....

Jim; I think my wife was being sneaky---she was reading my posts and stuff---then got everyone into it.Now I'll be reading up on the DCC stuff more---and the boxcars will go well as my surragate grainboxes---after I get the rest of the rails down that is---I's be lucky---Whistling

Mornin, an irish coffee please Janie.

With a tornado watch just west of us, us under a wind advisory with 40-mph+ gusts and rain headed this way on radar, it might get interesting outside today. But it's 55 out now and a forecast high in the upper 60's. I plan on enjoying it, since temps dropping to round 30 and rain changing to snow tonight.

ROB...your contractor did a very poor job of finishing for sure.

DICK... thanks for letting us know bout John. Hopefully there's not any serous damage to the roof and they'll get the power back up soon.

JIM...There's still plenty of divinity and other candy here yet.  I try'd the file idea and couldn't get it to do what I wanted and kept plugging the file.

TODD... I started to post on that thread also, but thought better of it. Looked this morning it seems to have disappeared during the night.

I best gets round, we've got some running to do today. It was to foggy here to get out yesterday to do much. Thoughts for all those in need and hope ya'll has a gooden.

Model Railroad New Year’s Resolution

Well we only have a few more days until 2009.  If you were to make a Model Railroad New Year’s Resolution (or a Model Railroad Goal if you don’t care for resolutions) what would it be?

Last year my resolution was to build all the model buildings I had in my “got-2-have-it” box and with help from a friend I completed that goal.

I think this year’s resolution will be to ballast the entire mainline track. That’s about 204 feet or 60.9 meters.  I think I’ll need more friends, LOL!

Good Morning, Flo, Jeff, Bill T., Lee - Flo, I'll have some waffles, maple syrup, dab of butter on top, and a cup of coffee and a glass of Ed's OJ, please. Thanks!

Well, and looky there - guess I have the breakfast tab for our late(r) risers. Flo, start tracking my tab, and I'll see about settling up after I get done.

PC, thanks for the link. Got your email (and sent another back).

Jeff, hope I get the hang of installing decoders down as well as you have. Thumbs Up

Lee, my MRR resolution probably would involve getting my wiring (busses and feeders) in (so I can again run trains!), and just getting five of my multitude of building kits assembled and ready for the layout. That, and clearing out some of the clutter under the layout sections - got to crawl before I get to walk...Whistling

Inch, watch yourself up there today (and tell Sallie too, if you reach her). The counties to our north (Ste. Genevieve, Ste. Francois and across into Illinois have a tornado watch until noon our time. Shock But so far, not for Cape G. County. Garry, that might be good news for you and those south of the Ohio River. Unless the front decides to slip to the south as it heads E-NE.

I'll slide into the booth here and start on my breakfast. Dinner

Blessings and prayers for safe weather,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Thanks, Jim.  Waffles sound good on this chilly morning.  How about a hot coffee with that.

Hope  your Christmas was great, Jim.  We usually have extra time off during the holidays.  I moved my book cases to spot under the layout.  That gives me more storage for kits, foam, etc. Today, I plan to move a shelf that will hold my MR, and Narrow Gauge Gazette magazines.  It so nice to control the clutter.

I will check  in  later.  We are heading to town  for groceries before it gets too crazy.

Howdy everbody, Pancakes with strawberries and real whipped cream, two sausage patties and a cup of coffee please . Thanks Jim. Didn’t get as much rain overnight as expected and I’m not complaining. We’ll see what today brings.

Learned something from these forum things. The Lobby has weekly coupons on line for discounts. Yeah!!We have one of those so I can now sit and wait for a train coupon to pop up.

BC and Inch- Yea that got pulled pretty quick. Glad I didn’t waste my time posting. Oh wait I did take the time right up until I pushed the little X in the corner instead of the “post”. But boy did it irritate me on a few reasons given. The ones about rules and rights etc.Banged Head

Robby- Funny thing last time I injured my finger to the extent of a bandage, I came home with it wrapped up, my wife asked me if someone hit me in the nose! Laugh Funny! that’s fuuuuuunnyyyy !Laugh

Hhhmmm-New years train resolution I’ll have to think on that

Well, guess I’ve got to go to town with Brenda (my wife) and see what we can get accomplished amongst the warm unfrozen blizzard we are having. GrumpyWe forgot to get the dog more treats. How shameful of me to not think of her when I was fighting all the Christmas shoppers!Whistling

OH! Here’s a good one from the Spfld paper. At the Capital they allow Christmas displays. The Atheist (sp?) display apparently was stolen and they are of course upset and naturally the state is going to spend money with “In God We Trust” on it to kinda pursue this horrible case of vandalism. Now I can’t recall what this display, (sign really), said but they have replaced it and under it, get this They put another sign saying……”Thou Shalt Not Steal” Confused

Well a brown pile of love has just shown up with a rubber ball, so I guess I should play a little before we leave.

Have a great day all.

Afternoon everyone!

I tried to get in here to post a couple of times earlier but got sidetracked by a couple of cats who thouth since I was sitting at the computer that i was there to hold them on my shoulder and give them love and attention.......  Flo, dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug and a bowl of Ham and cabbage soup for lunch.

Today is going to be primarily clean up the house and put away stuff day.  That and watch the snow melt. Currently 46°F with a high around 50°F and under a flood advisory here in the Finger lakes today.  The Fire Dept. will be out saving cellars all day.  Literally!  They will be pumping quite a few I think.  We will lose about 8 inches of snow and get over a half inch of rain today.  The street out front is flowing pretty good at the moment.  Yard across the street is a swimming pool as it always is under these conditions.

Hope you all have a great day and stay dry!

[edit] Should have checked my own basement this morning.  I have a wet trainroom floor myself.  Until this inundation I have had a dry cellar since I had the pipe fixed that takes the flow from the back roof and my sump out near the road.  This would mean that I have a very wet back yard.  Oh well, the heat is on and towels are sopping up what has come in so far.  I will need to take up the floor pads and let them dry today as well........  No major damage just an annoyance.

Hello Diners! I'll have some of the Vindaloo curried turkey please Chloe, with mixed mashed potato and turnip; and African Red Tea while I meet and greet. Thanks, CapeJim.

I hope you have all had a good Christmas. I figure I won't be able to catch up (my last bookmark is in page 129!) so I'll start over on this page.

We lost power due to a tremendous wind and rain storm on Dec.21st, and didn't get it back until Christmas Eve. I didn't bother with getting on-line until after Christmas, with all the extra things that had to be done here, and visiting our daughter and grandsons. Today is the first real mrr time I've been able to carve out.  The storm was a southwest gale, and did more damage to trees (and our roof which has lost many shingle tabs, and is down to the bare wood in one place over my MIL's bedroom)  than hurricane Juan, or "White Juan" a year or so after that. The sea was being blown to a mist, and the resultant salt spray did this to our windows. This is not snow fallng gently outside, but salt crusted on the glass.

Christmas Day I found this little beauty in my stocking....yes, we still do that for each other, with the original stockings Kris made when our daughter was real small, so getting on for 40 years ago...   I think it's going to come in very handy, and it takes X-Acto blades.  Kris found it in the crafts section of WallyMart.

I started on the track cleaning this afternoon, and had the lower yard rough cleaned in just 30 minutes.  That'sthe worst part of the layout.  Here's a progress shot on track right at the front of the layout.

You can see how the crud completely coats the rail. I've noticed that the power feeds, where they are exposed copper wirebeside the track, and escaped painting, are quite green with verdigris - so there is definitely a chemical reaction going on between those wires and whatever is in the air...salt most likely.

Back to the track cleaning.  With any luck I can get the layout done and back in operation before an e-mail mrr aquaintance from New Brunswick who's working weekends in Dartmouth finds his way here some time before the middle of January!

Wow John you live very close to the water!  No doubt that's salt on your tracks.

Well a friend of mine was in town visiting her mother and she dropped by with a big wrapped box for me.  I opened it up and there it was the built up Walthers Fire Station.

Hi Gang: I've been busy the last couple of days. I took the daughters in-laws to Clark Gardens yesterday. It turns out that the reseptionest there is from England and very near Leighton Buzzard where the in-laws live. Small world.

The weather here hasn't been real bad just kind of crazy. Yesterday it got up to 80 and this morning it was 72 at 6am. About 8am it dropped to 52 and windy like crazy. It went back up to about 60 but with the wind it feels much colder.

Dick when I have problems with the right margin dissapering I hit "compatibility view" and that takes care of it. Now the compatibility is below the blue WIE line at the top of the screne. It is a small box with a torn piece of paper in it. At least it is on my puter.

Well I'm going to go see what Mary Ann is up to.

See you all later.

Good evening people---could I have a carrot soup with a side order of corned beef on rye please--

John der; All that salt encrustation leaves me wondering---how do you get it off the windows? I too suspect salt doing the verdigris on the connex, loads of fun scraping that off.Sigh

Ray; Do you have a dehumidifier down there? if so a few hours of that will help keep any of that mouldy stuff down come spring---Where I worked we had a crawlspace that just loved to collect water(high water table+lots of rain=flooded basement)--so we ended up getting three to keep that thing semi dry in a wet year---Whistling

We are somewhat drier up here but FOG---we got fog boy---right now we are not bad but earlier this afternoon even turning all the lights on in the car only let you see the fog better--I went out to get some groceries to cover for New Years eve and as it is nearing that timeHAPPY NEW YEARS!!!

We had great weather today!  I rode my motorcycle almost all day.  This, just a coule of days after Christmas.....in Indiana!

Ahead of the cold front, high temperatures today tied a record for this date.  The record is 67 degrees in 1959 and today’s high hit 67 degrees.  Temperatures will fall into the 30s behind the front overnight.

The rest of the week is a little above normal, so I may get another shot at riding....who knows?

I know I probably won't be riding Tuesday though.  Grandpa's funeral is that day.

Oh, BTW, Al alert in the big room!  Yeah, he's back, and he has spare time on his hands.  Remember, don't feed the trolls!

Zzz Yawwwwnnnnn - huh? Oh, guess I dozed off for a while, Flo. Yep, I'll have a cup of coffee in an AT&SF mug, please and thank you, ma'am.

The front has moved through Southeast Missouri, without much ill effects locally (though I understand some towns south of us are out of power for a while due to the storm). We had a thunderstorm warning here, and a tornado watch for most all of our TV station's coverage area. The line looked nastier on the radar than in person; I didn't hear any 'train' sounds, unless you count that whistle on Thomas the Train... Whistling Rained pretty hard for a while, and my lights flickered a couple of times, but didn't go out. So I have made it through the storm... (with apologies to Barry Manilow).Smile,Wink, & Grin

I hope that our Illinois folks and all points east survive just as well as the storm moves through their area. It looked like this front was a present from our Arkansas neighbors, as it didn't appear to start any further south than mid-Arkansas on the national radars and satellite pics. So I can't blame it on Jeff, which is fine by me. How's everybody else's weather?

Ray - I'm hoping none of our Northeastern Diners get any of this storm, with the rain and slush problems you're already having. It's still 60 F now, but supposed to drop off to almost freezing tonight (33 F), so will need the coat in the morning, I'm sure.

BC and Todd - you guys should get a listen to (or at least find the lyrics for) "Christmas with a Capital C" (by Go Fish, I think). You'll get a chuckle out of it, I expect...Wink

BC, I think you got the fog we had a couple or three days ago. Hope you don't have to drive any long distances in that.

Todd, that one about the aetheists' display - and how they replaced it - is funny (I guess they don't count it 'stealing' to use a faith-based (non-aetheist-derived) phrase, huh? Wink) Oops, guess I'd better not continue with that...

Sue, I should take your lead and do some of that reorganizing. Of course, I'll have to clear the stuff out first to be able to put some kind of shelving under my layout. Sigh

DerJohn, that gizmo looks really handy - she got it at Wally World? I may have to check that section out tomorrow. Looks like #11 blade that fits it - that about right?

Paul, your weather sounds like the fringe of this front we just had, except you didn't get as much rain and didn't cool off as much as they're predicting for us tonight.

PC - Al's back, huh?Blindfold Glad you got some riding in today, because you don't want to be riding when this front gets to your area, trust me!

Flo, could I have a refill on my coffee, please? Thanks, and can you give me a running total so far on these chowhounds? Shock Jeff ordered how big of a steak?! Oh, well, he does have a good appetite for a guy his size... Flo, you might want to set out that apron and dishtowel for me after I finish this cup. I may not have enough money to cover it all after all.

Prayers for safety, no power losses and no flooding for you Diners tonight/tomorrow from this front. We're still getting a little more rain now, but not lots. Prayers for healing and comfort, as well.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau
