Evening all,
Gav, I hope you have a good Christmas and Happy New year over there and we look forward to seeing you as soon as you get back to the diner, we will even let you pick up the tab.
Jim, I’ve seen several examples of the DPM “Odd fellow’s hall” converted into a movie theater, also the Bachman Lyric Theater is a good choice if you want a larger structure than the DPM and save a few $$. The ramp; I think I’ll continue the construction as before except place the ribs at about a 30 degree angle and just shorted the railroad ties to make the ramp.
40-50 MPH winds here, most of the anemometers along the highway I noticed were broke or missing. My speedometer said I was doing 70mph, but I figured based on the time I left Euclid and the time I arrived in Toledo my actual speed over ground was 60 mph. We have a snow squall stalled over Euclid and Mentor right now. The wind chill currently is -24 actual temp is -5F.
Its so cold here I couldn’t unravel the extension cord to plug my truck in. I had to bring it inside to thaw out.
I did have a good time running around visiting everyone and I got to see my kids tonight, wahoo.

Nice to see you Todd. Kinda cold innit? I'll have a cup of that Kona mocha java and a chocolate chip muffin to-night please.
I'm looking at completely frosted up windows. It is amazingly cold out there. I spent the evening with my catalogues et al. trying to find a few goodies that can be picked up for NEXT Xmas. I ordered a wacking supply of those modular sets as well as some more paints etc. 'Spring' is all cuddled up next to me purring away and Audrey has gone off to bed. All is quiet tonight.

I'll have a hot chocolate, please.
Lee ..... I look at that laser art gas station you mentioned. i think that would be fun to put together.
Layout work today: I'm doing scenery in one corner of my layout expansion. One of the things is making more rubber molds, and these are for bridge abutments and a retaining wall.
Our Christmas travel plans may be disrupted by weather based on present forecasts.

Near a cornfield in Indiana...
Good morning everybody... Our forecasted high will be -7C as we are now under a snowsquall warning. we are expecting maybe 5-10cm today and maybe even more tomorrow. Right now the temperature is sitting at -11C with winds up to 40kmh.
We are going to do some running around today. Keep warm...
Good morning all,
Today: Snow showers and areas of blowing snow, mainly before noon. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 19. Wind chill values as low as -12. Very windy, with a west wind 37 to 40 mph decreasing to between 29 and 32 mph. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. Tonight: A slight chance of snow showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 11. Wind chill values as low as -3. Breezy, with a southwest wind between 13 and 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Good morning. It's 28 here with a wind chill of 19 and it is clear. The high should be around 40 and it will be partly cloudy. Not much went on yesterday. It was too windy to do anything outside that would be connected with the layout so no weathering, painting, stripping, etc. There was a little layout work done but nothing serious. My niece got the carpet put down in both bedrooms of her home yesterday, the kitchen sink went in and all the plumbing is connected. They now have water. My sister is hoping they're out of her house before the end of January. That'll give her another room for storage. I keep telling her she wouldn't need all that storage space if she wasn't such a pack rat but that only gets me a dirty look. Besides, she had a good teacher. My mother turned pack ratting into a fine art and is only now starting work on clearing one of three rooms that are packed floor to ceiling with the junk she's collected over a span of fifty plus years.Today's Weather for:Sundown, LA 71446-6114 12/22/2008Wind Chill: 19°FHumidity: 42%Dew Point: 8°FSo Far TodayHigh: 32°FLow: 28°FRain: 0.00"Rain Rate: 0.00"/hGust: 16mph NNEToday High: 42 Partly cloudy early in the morning then becoming mostly cloudy. IT IS COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Current temp 4 wind chill -15.
I believe the high will be 15. I was going to finish up some christmas shopping today, and now I have to pull out the lonnnnnng johns.
Well I will probably piant some hills today. I plaster them yesterday. Father in law is taking us out tonight. Kinda wanna get the layout looking good. Well better than it looks now.
Well everybody stay warm. I know I am trying. The temp. in the house says 60. I have it set at 67, I don't think its going to make it.
Stay warm
"Rust, whats not to love?"
Good Morning All,
Whoo it's chilly here this morning 10F but with the winds it feels colder than the -6F they say it is. Mostly sunny tho so it's not dreary and cold. Worked on the house tidying up and the shop getting ready for the move all weekend. I have to go through the downstairs stud by stud pulling all the left over lath nails out and digging out any remaining shim and lath down by the floors. We should have a heating system started the beginning of the new year with the second floor system going in once the plumbing is roughed in. We ultimately decided on radiant floor heat with a boiler and all energy star equipment eventhough we aren't getting any significant help with rebates or grants just because this system made the most sense.
No real progress on the MRR front though I have started doodling with the floor plan of the 12 x 20 shed I will eventually inherit. The current plan is to incorporate what is salvageable from the previous layout and expand on the Norwalk to Canaan via Danbury theme. The industrial area I had will be the basis for the Norwalk section and I'm looking at an island to place the Danbury yard loop on continuing up to Canaan where I will place the new model of the station there once I hit the lottery. Fill in the space between with sidings based on local industry and it all sounds easy whilst sitting at the kitchen table.
Jeff - that layout is looking better all the time. The pics are a real inspiration for me and help to keep me motivated to return to the hobby asap.
Well, lots of other stuff to get on with this morning so I'll take my regular coffee to go and run. Catch y'all later. J.R.
Mornin,
It's 1 degree.....hrrrummphh. I'm going back in.

Morning all!
Yeah, after a rather nippy night (-2 with a wind chill of -25), it's warming up nicely around here! Heck, it's above 0 now! Time to break out the burmuda shorts! (Where's my snorkle and fins?)
The Wind Chill Advisory has been extended until 10:00 for most of the area, but has been dropped for Bloomington, Columbus, and Seymour (the southern areas). The Wind Chill Warning for a few counties in eastern Indiana will remain until Noon.REST OF TODAY: An area of high pressure will slide towards the state, and lighten up winds, so the wind chill values will improve this afternoon. Temperatures will stay cold, but should manage to hit the mid to upper teens.TUESDAY: Another storm system out of the southern Plains will race into the state. With cold air still in place, ice could be a problem, especially north of Indianapolis, where a Winter Storm Watch has already been issued. (Makes you feel good when they're already issuing the warning for tomorrow, huh?)
So whats this all add up to?
Today: 16º Sunny, but cold, lighter winds by afternoon
Tonight: 11º Partly cloudy. Still cold.
Tuesday: 35º Wintry Mix. Some snow showers to start. Sleet, ice and freezing rain by the afternoon before changing over to rain.
OK, enough with the weather. It's depressing!
So, has anyone had any Christmas getogethers yet? If so, whaddya get?
We had two yesterday, but they're mostly for the kids. I did get a GPS unit though. I'm thinking that'll work well on my bike. Ya know, trying to read a map on a moving motorcycle is a challenge, and that says nothing about trying to fold it up again! You think it's hard in a car? (Just kidding of course......I ALWAYS know where I am and where I'm going. Just ask my wife, she'll tell ya!)
Well, I best be off!
Mornin' everyone!
As for this mornings weather...... Ah, what Lee said only farther East! Camping Weather to be exact.
I still have to con .... Ah, find 4 or 5 more ushers for the 2 services left this year and then I will be done with all the hard w**k for this year.
Flo, HOT Coffee, dark roast if you got any left. Oh in a FGLK Mug.
Gotta go feed the wood stove!

Hello everybody...
+9 degrees here.
Weather forecasts suggest Wednesday would be the best day for us to go to CIncinnati. Tomorrow has freezing rain forecasted over the entire 300 mile route to Cincinnati, but Wednesday, it will be warm enough for normal rain. I certainly wish the USA had the passenger trains available now as it once had in the 1950's.
JR.... It is good to hear you are at least in the planning planning stages toward rebuilding the layout. I have missed seeing your city scenes ever since your devasting fire, and I look foreard to seeing photos in the future.
Cheers everybody.
ROFLMAO!
Proper water supply protection. Always be sure that you use these like you were taught in Pump Class! Right Jeffrey?
They're gonna have a SEVERE water problem the first time a train hits that. Who thought that one up, Stanley or Oliver?
Ray,
PURE GENIUS!!!!!
I would suspect that the fire department contacted the railroad to request holding the trains. That is the usual procedure if fire department is obstructing tracks in an emergency.
Ray:
How thoughtful of them to provide what looks like ramps to take the trains up and over the hose-lines, LOL!
Well, not much from the home front here in SunnyColdCal. We're having a clear, cold (for us, at least) morning right now, with another storm dropping in from the Northwest this afternoon, complete with low snow levels and more rain predicted for the Valley. Everything looks so GREEN in my back yard! The Northwest is a major mess, my son phoned from Vancouver WA and said that they don't plan on driving down for Christmas. I told him to stay put, we can postpone it until the weather clears up. Travelers are stranded all over the place--Greyhound has cancelled all bus routes to the Northwest until further notice, and I guess the airports around here are in the same condition. AMTRAK, anyone?
Right now the Midwest and East is due to get OUR last storm, so my sympathies to you all back there, it was a cold one for us, so I can only imagine what it's going to be like by the time it hits you.
Set up the little On30 train around the tree, with a lot of help from Remington and Spooky--it's so much fun trying to make sure that the train gets around the layout at least ONCE! Remington also likes to unwrap packages, I've found out. Spooky taught him. Either that, or he arrived pre-trained. Went out this morning, looks like a paper-shredder went through the place. I yelled "BAD CAT!" They both gave me a "What's YOUR problem, Daddy?" look.
Well, have to do some last-minute shopping (which gives me an excuse to drop by Railroad Hobbies in Roseville), so I'd better get ready.
Best to all, prayers to those in need.
Tom

I would suspect you are right.... Of course then they wouldn't need the hose ramps would they....??? I was sent that photo in an e-mail from a guy who is an avid Model Railroader and a Fireman. Couldn't resist sharing.
Lee: The box came in today. It took about 20 minutes to put that caboose together. Some of the tolerances were really tight but it came out looking pretty good.
Afternoon Gang: I just had a nice long newsey post going and bam it dissapeared. I think that I hit the ctrl key with my hand resting it on the keyboard. I'll just make this quick and maybe come back later tonight.
My best to everyone.
Jeff, it looks good. I hope my box came in the mail today, otherwise who knows where it will be after Christmas, LOL.
LSWrrJeff, it looks good. I hope my box came in the mail today, otherwise who knows where it will be after Christmas, LOL.
Hello from the freeze box known as London. According to what we got told here we sat at -10C pretty much all day. Oh well, at least we only got 5cm today---I don't even want to see what we get tomorrow.
Ray; I only have one question. What were they smoking? Or was it just the wobbly pop that made them think that up?
Tom; Both would be into gift removal services I presume? Or was it scrap dealing? Remington probably noticed something that yielded under the paws and decided that it was time for exercise....yeah right
Afternoon all:
It's clouded up, colding down and looks like our friend from the Northwest is moving in BIG TIME. We are supposed to have snow down to 1500 feet tonight, rain here in the Valley, and then it's supposed to head East for a lot of your other folks. Mom just phoned from Nevada City, the've got about a foot up there with more expected. Tomorrow is supposed to be a 'window' between storms, but then another one is moving in on Christmas Eve, and this is supposed to be a mixture of an Alaskan cold front and a Pacific front, so that means we'll get WET here, and TONS of snow over the Sierra.
And then it moves East. As nasty as it gets--and has been--here in California, those storms seem to get realy IRRITATED going over the Rockies, and hit you guys in the Midwest and East like gangbusters!
Finished my Christmas Shopping, I'm holding off on the wrapping until Remington and Spooky calm down and find another hobby besides UN-wrapping.
Stopped by Railroad Hobbies in Roseville. Drooled. The brass case was FULL to overflowing with all sorts of delectable goodies, including a classic PFM version of a Rio Grande M-63 Northern, all painted and weathered and just staring at me saying "Buy me, Daddy" until I looked at the price tag. WHOA! And I'd heard rumors that used brass was going DOWN in price! Luckily, I have two Key models of the same locomotive, so I was able to just smile and say, "Later, baby." And for anyone who can't live without the 'early' version of the UP Challenger (the 'interesting' one with the six-wheel tender and the headlight on the front of the smokebox), they had TWO! Of course, I'm not going to spoil it all and say what they cost, LOL! And at least three versions from different importers of those little, amazing SP "Valley Mallet" 2-6-0's. I just stood there and drooled. Walked out with a bunch of pre-made evergreen trees and a Roundhouse 40' wood reefer (you think I'd pass up a refrigerator car, you fools? ) rather nicely decorated for GN/WFE.
It's always a pleasure to go into that store. One nice thing about BOTH of our LHS' here in the Sacramento area, there's always a lot of customers, and some really GREAT help manning the stores.
So this evening, I'm going to go out to the garage and do some serious tree-planting and hear the rain whacking against my newly (last year) roofed garage. Then come in and let Remington and Spooky chase my Christmas train. Maybe have an eggnog or six--after all, it IS the Christmas season
I got the needed work done on the two SOO LINE covered hoppers I got in the mail today. Kadee #5 couplers have been installed and both cars have been weighted to NMRA standards (1 ounce initial + 1/2 ounce for each inch car length (8" coupled length) = 5 ounces). No need for weathering as they alreadyhave exquisite weathering (Stand up and take a bow Lee) that I'm going to leave as it is.
