Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Good morning....
Jeff.... I recall Santa Fe bought those big Amrak engines second hand and modifed them for freight service. I said that becasue it might be an idea for your private road unless you are planning to add Amtrak trains to your layout.
I plan to work some more on my layout extension this afternoon.
Cheers everybody

Nah, it ain't, because the teachers were talking about it.
Good Morning/Lunchtime, Zoe. Gee, there must've been some chowhounds in last night, from all the trash in the dumpster out back. Oh, PC was buying dinner? No wonder! Sorry I missed it! Oh, I'll have one of those cheddar cheeseburgers and a Dr. Pepper, please. Thanks!
Looks like several of you have been busy with MRR'ing lately. I'll have to catch up, even if it's just to put together a building kit, so I'm not completely without anything to talk about.
My MRR club time last night was spent doing a section of track for one of the few remaining sidings to be laid (on the bare plywood). It comes from the passing track at the end of the intermodal yard area, and continues past to what will eventually be other industries. Had to solder two pieces of track together before I could nail it down (and unsoldered two feeder wires from the sides first). Then we had a business meeting and by the time that was done it was almost time to go home. We won't have to spend much of any more funds to be able to get things wired up and ready to run trains (before we get to scenery). We have enough Digitrax boosters, enough wire for the buss lines and for feeder wires to be put in, and one of the members (who hasn't built his layout yet) donated some of his engines (more modern diesels) for the club - I think some Athearn Genesis SD70's(MAC?) and even a SW900/1200 (P2K). In exchange, we agreed to come help him once he gets ready to start his layout. I think he's still negotiating property and trackage rights in his basement with his CFO...
Found out late yesterday afternoon that my former co-worker in crisis is gone (not sure if fired or left on her own). That was a big surprise for us. Sometimes management isn't highly communicative about these things. I doubt that she was behind on paperwork, and they'd been prepping her to see more kids starting this month, which was why this was totally unexpected. I'm hoping for her sake that she got a better offer somewhere else (local hospital, etc.), since she's the one who just got married and has several kids at home.
Got my MRR order in last night at the meeting, including my EMD 567 kit and transformer kit, so maybe I can get started on putting those together....Also got a Rix grain elevator and some W-S figures, as well as the Durango Press mining details set.
I'll be chowing down in the window booth for now. Hope everybody gets out and votes today. Our line at my voting place wasn't as bad as I'd expected; quick in and out. Took about as long to get a parking spot as to get in and vote.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Found out this morning that a bomb went off inside the Leesville Wal-Mart this past weekend. What really disturbs me about it is that nothing at all was done to get people out of the store. Everything continued as if it was business as usual. The first order of business should have been to clear then store. Why? Common sense says that where there's one bomb there may well be another. I think Wal-Mart hasn't heard the end of this.
LSWrrThe last run of an SDP40F took place in 2001 on the BNSF; the units were all officially retired in 2002. Most were scrapped in Topeka, Kansas between 2002 and 2004.

Doesn't stop the L&A from snitching a couple of 'em.
True, true, you should see the stuff the L.S.&W. has snitched!
Fortunately, the New Haven had such a variety of equipment the temptation rarely presents itself to snitch what they didn't have. Lots of ALCO stuff and some GE too. On top of that, Peter Mclaughlin ran the Maybrook freights as a fireman when they were short on power and has pictures of leased/borrowed B&M EMD E units as well as Pennsy Sharks running on the line. How does that go - a prototype situation for everything ?
Got a bit more done pulling down the layout today. Unfortunately there is a lot more benchwork/scenery with mold growing on it than first thought so more is hitting the dumpster than I envisioned. What hurt was pitching the entire swing bridge as the mold got into all the scenery and was growing out of the ballast. Bummer! Well that's the way it goes - just have to come back better than before and I'll be a - ok. CUL, J.R.
Hello forum strangers! Long time no reply.
A email from one of our regulars reminded me of the site! (you know who you are)
Layout is on hold at the moment due to a move coming in a month or so and the fact that cricket is full on at the moment. In case you guys didn't know im in N scale now (US) with UP and BNSF.
For some reason I can't post from home so I can only do so at work. Bummer hey.
Cheers,

Two people were injured when a homemade bomb went off inside the Leesville Wal-Mart on Saturday, Leesville Police reported.
Two 16-year-old boys have been arrested in connection with the incident that sent two to the hospital with minor injuries, Leesville Police Chief Bobby Hickman said in a statement released Monday.
Police said the device went off around 8:30 p.m. and was initially reported to them as gunshots coming from the sporting goods area of the store. It was later discovered that it was a "small bomb" that had been detonated by the teens in the men's clothing section of the store.
A customer and an employee suffered minor injuries during the explosion. They were taken to a local hospital where they were treated and later released.
One of the unnamed juveniles was charged with criminal trespass and has been released to his parents.
The other teen faces charges of manufacture and possession of a bomb, theft of goods, simple arson, two counts of counts of negligent injury, disturbing the peace and aggravated assault. The second teen also has two previous and unrelated arson charges through Leesville Police, according to the release. He will be taken to a juvenile detention center.
Police said the store was cleared, and the boys were arrested after officials reviewed security tape from the store.
Very strange. The comments of those who were there stress the oppisite. The only area cleared was the IMMEDIATE area.
Good Evening Diners!
First of all I want to thank every-one for the B-D wishes and the cake!! I went for my annual poke and prod that morning. My Doc said he had a birthday surprise for me as he snapped on a rubber glove. Hopefully the tests come out OK. I did get a flu shot and as I have a 94 year old mother, it was free.
Lee, I know it's a bit late but I am sorry to hear about the loss of your furry friend. It's always a tough call but you have to put them first.
Weather here has been amazing. On Monday we hit a record with a high of 68F. It is supposed to start cooling off by the week-end with a high of about 28F on Sunday. I imagine it will be heading south but hopefully it won't get too far. I did manage to get the fish out of the pond and into their winter abode baon Sunday plus finish cleaning up the back yard. My wife asked me to empty the flower pots of the earth otherwise they will freeze and crack. Would you believe I filled 3 wheel barrow fulls of earh. It is a small wheel barrow but still that's a lot of dirt!
Jeff, I sure don't mind parking the RV at the s tation. I can railfan at the same time but is there power hook up? I guess I could always attach a jumper cable to the rails.
Well it's time to get to the TV. Your election is a big deal here as the outcome will have a rather big impact on us as we ship most of what we produce your way.

Jeff that is not a true southern hunting vehicle, where is the 1,000,000 candle power spot light???
JR that is true NH is also the only line that I know of outside of the PRR to have GG1s running regular service. Sorry to hear about the layout.
Evening Gang: I went to the CAP meeting with the grand daughter. She is really getting into it. When they were having there drill practice I had a hard time not acting like a tac officer again. I was disapointed that the uniform for the seinor members was blue polo shirt and gray slaks. I asked about it and got the impresion that it was for persons that could not meet Air Force groming codes. From what I saw no one there did not meet code. Anyway that kind of turned me off. There have been a lot of other changes that I think are very good. They have decent aircraft now. Mostly Cessna 172 and 182s. A far cry from the PT 23 that I flew in as an observer/navigator. That bird had a hand crank inertial starter and open cockpit. That was a real cold ride in the winter along the west coast of Lake Michagan. Any way I'm going back next week and may go check out the seinor squadron on Tuesday night.
I got the frame for the flat car finished sandblasted. That was a long job that took 160lbs of blasting medium. I put it in the shop since it may rain tomorrow. I don't want to have to start all over to remove rust. I'll paint it yellow and letter it for Chcago & North Western.
Well I guess I'll hit the sack.
Good Night All
Good evening. I will have a hot cider, please.
Paul, Glad the grand daughter is enjoying CAP. Did you get enough hay in this year? I am wondering if we did. Our hay price doubled this year.
Later, Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Evening, Chloe - I'll have a cup of cocoa, please. Thank you, ma'am.
JR, sorry to hear about your losing a bit more of your layout (especially the swing bridge, as I understand those are ticklish to get just right...). As you said, there's always rebuilding it better.
OzJim! Are you still using the same basic layout plan you'd last posted in the old Diner? And where are you going to move to? Fill us long-time Diners in, when you get a chance.

Jeff, that's some kind of hunting vehicle, for sure. So, how many candle power is the spotlight/bar on it? Good to hear that CN Charlie will be able to fit his RV there at the station. Yesindeedy!
Paul, that CAP business about polo shirts sounds weird to me, too (given that there didn't appear to be any need for the special treatment). But I'm probably 'Old school', I guess. When I was in high school and in Air Explorers, or in ROTC in college, there probably wouldn't have been polo shirts. (Did they have polo shirts back in the 60's, anyway?)
Well, no more political ads (thank Heaven!) all over TV now. [whew!]
I'm going to head home for some . Had a rather busy day - got to swing by her for lunch (around 3 p.m.) kinda later than usual. Hopefully tomorrow will be not quite as busy.
Prayers for those in need of healing and comfort.
Blessings and a good night's rest for all of you,

Good morning all,
High today of 69F, looks like a full week of Indian summer for us.
I ordered brick streets and cement side walks for my downtown area and it should be in this Friday.
Whew, Jeff I thought you guys forgot about the spotlight. Looks like a nice vehicle. You guys hunt deer and hogs down there?Lee
