Evening, Chloe - I bet you were about to send the hounds out looking for me, huh? Hey, I'm on vacation (till Friday, anyway), and running odds and ends and errands. Oh, I'll have a hot cocoa for now, and when it gets closer to midnight, I'll have some wine to toast the New Year in. Thanks!

Ten Eleven pages to catch up? I'll probably be missing something, I'm sure, since I'm gonna just skim through 'em...

PC, add my thoughts and prayers for you and your family. If you didn't locate that song I told you about, I'll email you the lyrics until you can get a listen to it. And thank you for your sentiments (and back atcha, brother)!

Jeff, that house of yours made me think of the Grandt Line (Corrugated Warehouse?) building - its backside, at least. I have plans to later get one of those and put it with the McGraw Oil Co. kit (that I do have), as the warehouse for the oil company (and where all those cases of auto oil are stored until being shipped out). It looks like you had a successful trip to the other (not-as) LHS. Good acquisitions!

Lee, at least you'll have trustworthy wiring by the time you get it all rebuilt and done. That's kinda scary to think that you'd been living in the house for years with that wiring the way it apparently was. How's your postal carrier doing lately - better, I hope? Glad your DCC shipment arrived - have fun learning that, and we'll expect your tutorial in a couple of weeks, right? Smile,Wink, & Grin And it's even neater that Dorothy got you the radio version. Remember that you need to plug the throttle into a jack to acquire/dispatch a loco (from what I've observed with guys in our club who have been using Digitrax a while). Once you've acquired the loco, you can unplug and play to your heart's content...Yeah!! By the way, do you have pics of your DPM/REA building? I have that kit, and may want to see how you added cargo doors to it, whether I do it as an REA building or otherwise.

Dick, after seeing the forecast tonight, it looks like your area's been on a seesaw of weather and temps the past week or two. We've just been cold since our front came through, and I don't think it's supposed to warm up very much by this weekend, just into the low-to-mid 50's (F).

Good to see you in the Diner, Frank (da kr**t), and best wishes on your new location and layout. I'd like to have a bigger apartment, but not sure that'll happen this next year or not. My layout is designed somewhat to be able to take apart and move later.

Barry (BC) - when you wrote about 'hearing evergreens being blown about', I had this image in my heads of - well, let's coin the term: "evergreen tumbleweeds"... Whistling And I'll bet that was an Ontarian (spelling?) dandelion that you saw, eh? Laugh

Tom, can you require your son to have to (ahem...) "document his work"? (No? Oh, darn...EvilWink) Well, you could try to get him to at least show and explain to you what he's doing/did, I suppose. And if you ever find an HO scale mountain lion, email me who makes it and all, please.

Sign - Welcome to the Diner, Jason (iguess733). Sounds like you had some great time with your son over your time off duty.Yeah!!

Vincent - what did you use for your coal loads? Looks good! Thumbs Up On those acrylic paints in an airbrush, be SURE to wash out the airbrush **immediately** after you finish, or they'll dry up in the 'brush, and that'll be its own problems...

RRNut675 - now, quit rubbing it in how good your weather is now, and we won't rub it in when you're in the midst of hurricane season next summer and we're safely inland...Smile,Wink, & Grin

Ray, how's your head (and lump) doing? As you said, it could've been much worse than it was. Still probably wasn't your favorite thing to do on an evening, I'm sure.

Rob - good to hear that some of your workers are showing up and working hard/long/consistently. Thumbs Up How'd your meeting with your contractor go about your list, or are you in mediation now?

My plans for tonight are to listen to our local CCM (contemporary Christian music) radio station's music countdown until midnight, and to have a glass of wine to toast the New Year in. I did get in the two Athearn undecorated cabeese (ATSF type, metal style) today, so depending on how warm it is tomorrow outside, I might get the airbrush out and start painting base coats on those or some other kits I have. We'll see.

Or, I could stay here in the Diner and see if the New Year's Eve party here is as lively as some previous ones have been. Chloe, how sturdy is the chain on that chandelier? Has Flip been back in today, or Fergie? No, no reason, I suppose, just wondering....Whistling

May your worst day in 2009 be better than your best day in 2008, Diners - my toast for you!

Prayers and Blessings for your Happy New Year,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Well guys and gals its another cold night!!!!  I feel bad for the peolpe out to watch the ball drop, or here in Pittsburgh watch it rise.  Its to cold for me.

Packer,  Aggro said using "Future Floor Finish" works good for a dull look.  Just put it in the airbrush and spray away.  To clean just use water.  I'm not sure if you mix it thou.   I can't remeber.

My weathered boxcar sold, which helps me out.  Do I do another, I dont know.  This boxcar is going to Australia.  I have to make sure its boxed up real good.

I guess I will finish up watching "Saving Private Ryan."  I really like that movie.  After that nooooooo idea.

Well everybody have a goodnight and a safe one.

To All,

Recent events in life, coupled with the whole New Years thing, have caused me to look a little closer at the things I hold as valuable to me.  I mean, New Years is a time of retrospect and hope for the future.  A recent death in my family has also gotten me to thinking along these lines.  Someone who is close to you passing on into the afterlife will do that to you sometimes, you know?

After much thought and concideration, I think I've boiled it all down to the simple question of, "What's it worth to me.....really?"  What I mean by this, is what are the things that I hold dear to me, you know, like close to the heart, and then what are the things that I can hold a little more loosely.

My first love is my Savior, Jesus the Christ.  He is the one thing that gives the rest of life meaning.

My wife and my children are my second love.  I know that if all else fails, they will stand with me and they will always keep me pointed to the most impostant thing, my God and my Savior.  In this way, I have been greatly blessed indeed!

But there's another blessing I have that rates way up there, and that's my friends.  By that, I don't just mean my friends that I see in my everyday life, the ones I hang out with and share meals with, but also my online friends.  I mean, I've always placed value on my online friends, don't get me wrong, but I'd failed to realize how much I've come to value you all.  What I'm saying I think, is that I'd already placed a high value on you all, but I'd failed to recognize the high level of that value.....does that make sense?

I don't think I took you all for granted (if I did, I'm sorry), but thinking about how much I've come to value the words of wisdom you all give to me and to others, the support that this community of friends experiences, and just being able to stop by and see posts from people I've become familiar with over the years, from Jeff's daily morning picture post, to, well heck, each and every one of you, well, it all means a lot.

I guess what I'm trying to say, in way too many run-on sentinces, is that I count you all as very special friends.

Thank You for enriching my life like you have.

And now, here's to many more years of even better friendship!

Hey ya'll.

Well after work today I spent about 2 hours weathering 7 hopper cars. I learned in the procsess why a friend said the Krylon Matte-finish is junk, since it' doesn't cover evenly, so I'll use dullcote from here on out.

I'm wondering if it's possible to use those cheap acrylic paints (like delta creamcoat) through an airbrush for a dusting effect. I have a tube of a color called "Charcoal black" and it looks really close to grimy black. I'm curious as how to get a light coat so I can speed up weathering on the rest of my coal hoppers; since it would take me close to 6 hours to do the rest of them (calculating from 7 in 2 hours, a kind of guess)

Tommorow is going to be a train day. Going to the club in the morning, then after that a club member is holding a session. What a way to start off the year.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good evening. I'm taking Mom to a bar. Friends' get-together, no she isn't going to gwt drunk. But I'll joke with her about anyway. Dad and I are gonna work some more on the layout. *(Translation: Dad and I are gonna go up to the layout room and find a bunch of layout-related things that aren't building the layout.)

Tom: Sorry for Remi's asthsma. If I may mention him, I can't help but think of how much calmer your trips with Lowell to the vet turned out. Get better furry.

So, best to all tonight. Prayers for those in need. PC, "brother" whom I don't think I know. and others.

Well, if ya'll we're talking about me, rest assured that everyone in my family is ok. My great aunt is starting to lose her mind (literally, like altizmers or whatever), but I'm not really sure what the deal is there. But my bro is fine, if ya'll were talking about me.

Yeah, that was me that started that......sorry.  I hadn't had my morning coffee yet, and it showed.  I was talking about Barry over on Jeffs forum and I thought the right name, but somehow that information didn't make it from my brain to my fingers as I typed.  I removed the mistake here, but not before a couple caught it.  I left it over there with a later retraction so you could see what I typed and figure out what all the hub-bub was about.  My bad!

No prob., just now going over to Jeff's board, lol. Been a real slow day for me.

Ya know the one bad thing about New Year's? It brings this thought of how the Mayan calendar says the world will end in 2012. And for some reason, I let it get to me last night (probably b/c my brain was extremely tired), but I know it's just a lie.

Good Afternoon All,

We ended up wirh about 4" of snow and some pretty good winds. I've been beavering away in the shop all day and just stopped by for a coffee between jobs. Need to cut a piece of plywood to a template I made last night at the museum so we can make an elevated platform to transfer between a regular loop of track and an elevated trolley we put in on the new O gage display. Not much else going on right now.

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year. Probably won't do mch more tonight beyond trying to stay awake until they drop the ball at Times Square. Just as soon put this year behind us and strat fresh.    Cheers, J.R.

Good afternoon from snowy and cold New England (17.3F), looks like about 5" of snow on the ground and still coming down for another hour or two. So tonight we are still headed out for the Sleigh ride and dinner by the big fireplace at the Inn in West Brookfield.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

***Tom, please post some pics of the new highway when you have it in place. Thanks!

Wife has had a rough few days and is more sleep deprived than myself. I'm a bit worried about her. She is on her way to pick up her folks and bring them here for NewYears.

Tile guy finished up today and did a pretty decent job. I only touched up a couple minor spots after he left.

Hope everyone is doing well today.

Morning all from FoggyCal.  We're supposed to have rain here Friday, so hopefully it will lift the fog--I can hardly see across the street.

Rob:  You asked about the 'flexible' highway--I've got two rolls of the stuff ready to lay down and repave Highway 49 around Sierra City, but I'm looking at some of my hairpin curves and I'm wondering if I bought the right stuff.  I'll let you know later how it goes.  I've paved a little bit around Deer Creek with it, which is fairly straight, and it looks pretty good laid down.  I think I may have to cut and snip a little to make the curves, but if I do it right, maybe the material will cover the creases. We'll see.

Sawyer:  For the life of me, I don't know why I insist on calling the Bragdon powders "Chalks"--you're right, they AREN'T!  But I sure like the way they work.

Well, I got the official word from the Vet yesterday:  Remington has Athsma.  Which means that every two months I get to hustle him off to the Vets for a Pregnozone shot, which is an adventure in itself. Remi is NOT a fan of Veternarian's offices--in fact it took three of us to hold him down for the shot yesterday.  For a big sweet Wegie, he turns into a real VIKING on the table!   I think what I'll do is just get the stuff from the Vet and do it at home where he's more comfortable.  And pollen-heavy Central Valley is NOT the best climate in the world for a cat with athsma--or anyone else with the stuff, either.  Just ask me.Tongue  But he seems a lot happier this morning, no coughing spells or anything.  That stuff really works.

Well, have to get ready for a rehearsal--my Choir Director's uncle died and the funeral is Friday, so she asked me if I'd play for it.  She's coming over this morning to go through the music, so I'd better get it together.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

And a Happy New Year to all.  Just got word from Tommy--the Northwest's in a mess again, so they won't be able to make it down here, after all.  Actually, as far as family is concerned, this has been kind of a Bummer of a holiday season.  But hey, everyone's still safe and happy, so THAT'S the big plus in my book.

I was wondering what might have happened???

It was a simple case of not enough coffee yet.

Well, I picked up Christmas dinner, so why not New Years Eve dinner too?

Eat up everyone!

And for those of you choosing to partake of strong drink, I've arranged a special passenger train to take you home later!

Thank goodness for that!  I was wondering what might have happened???

BTW, I was wrong about the snow.  We got so far about 10" of the white stuff here in Geneva.  Still coming down.................. sideways!  It gets really bitter when you are running the snowblower and it decides to blow right back in your face.  My New Years Eve plans are subject to change as necessary. I'm back in my Navy clothes today for the first time in a week and half, so I'll take a big cup of black coffee please. I'm on duty today, so I'll sitting on the MR website and surfing other train related sites. Yesterday was a great day, I spent most of the watching Thomas DVD's with my son, and playing with him on the floor with all the wooden Thomas trains his Grandpa and Mimi got him for Christmas. I think I'm going to take the plunge today and purchase my first piece of brass. I'm going to buy a T&P Muley Caboose imported by OMI. Well I'll check back later all. Have a happy New Year.

Good New Year's Eve morning, All.  I will have my usual coffee and cinnamon roll.  Is anyone working today, or are we all starting the celebration today?

Dick,  I haven't had a horse for 10 years.  I just didn't have the heart to replace my old gelding.  The steers are there to mow the grass and to eat.

Ryan,  Are you our resident consultant for our party?  What do we need to serve for our New Year's eve party?

Errands today, but we will get some layout time tomorrow.

Well I will have some OJ for now thanks.

Power went off last night, twice.  In a 5 minute span.  Happened around 3:00 this morning.  Next thingt you know, there goes the fire whistle.  The vol. fire department is about 10 houses up from us, and that whistle is LOUD.  I guess maybe a car wreck or something.  The whole town was black.  I just now got the internet back and going.

How am I going to celeberate today.  Well..................right now working on the layout and getting ready to make some trees.  Probably hit up the hobby store today, and see what I need from there.  Next start drinking by 3:00pm, and will be out on the floor by 6:00pm.   I will say by 12:00am I will be praying to the porcelain gods!!!

Now if you believe that, thats a different story. Whistling

Mornin' everyone!

"I'm dreaming of a white New Years....."  Sorry about that.  We got around 6" of light fluffy stuff that is now blowing here and there in the wind overnight.  I also have more recording to do today before heading out to my son's house for the New Years Eve Party.  We used to have some of his friends over to my house years ago before he married for the party.  Mostly sat around playing euchre all night and imbibing too much.   Now we go over to his house and play euchre might have a drink, and hope to stay awake long enough to see the new year in............

Now another of our own needs us today.  Sawyer is going to his brothers funeral today.  Sawyer, my deepest sympathies and prayerful support go with you on this day.  I truely understand what you're going through, and I think I speak for us all when I say that we're there for you.

Sawyer, my deepest sympathies and prayers to you and your family at this time!

I have to get the snow blower running soon or the musicians will have no place to park!  Hope you all have a great and safe New Years!

We'll get there sooner or later!

pcarrell

I'll just be chillin' at home tonight.....what do you all have planned?

I'm working from home until 4:30 today, also expecting an appliance repair man sometime between 9 am and noon this morning.

Tonight Ben's girlfriend is supposed to come over and watch movies until mid-night then I'll crack open a bottle of sparkling cider, that's about it for our New Year's celebration.

What you doing tonight PC?
