Morning all from FoggyCal. We're supposed to have rain here Friday, so hopefully it will lift the fog--I can hardly see across the street.
Rob: You asked about the 'flexible' highway--I've got two rolls of the stuff ready to lay down and repave Highway 49 around Sierra City, but I'm looking at some of my hairpin curves and I'm wondering if I bought the right stuff. I'll let you know later how it goes. I've paved a little bit around Deer Creek with it, which is fairly straight, and it looks pretty good laid down. I think I may have to cut and snip a little to make the curves, but if I do it right, maybe the material will cover the creases. We'll see.
Sawyer: For the life of me, I don't know why I insist on calling the Bragdon powders "Chalks"--you're right, they AREN'T! But I sure like the way they work.
Well, I got the official word from the Vet yesterday: Remington has Athsma. Which means that every two months I get to hustle him off to the Vets for a Pregnozone shot, which is an adventure in itself. Remi is NOT a fan of Veternarian's offices--in fact it took three of us to hold him down for the shot yesterday. For a big sweet Wegie, he turns into a real VIKING on the table! I think what I'll do is just get the stuff from the Vet and do it at home where he's more comfortable. And pollen-heavy Central Valley is NOT the best climate in the world for a cat with athsma--or anyone else with the stuff, either. Just ask me. But he seems a lot happier this morning, no coughing spells or anything. That stuff really works.
Well, have to get ready for a rehearsal--my Choir Director's uncle died and the funeral is Friday, so she asked me if I'd play for it. She's coming over this morning to go through the music, so I'd better get it together.

And a Happy New Year to all. Just got word from Tommy--the Northwest's in a mess again, so they won't be able to make it down here, after all. Actually, as far as family is concerned, this has been kind of a Bummer of a holiday season. But hey, everyone's still safe and happy, so THAT'S the big plus in my book.

Good Afternoon All,
We ended up wirh about 4" of snow and some pretty good winds. I've been beavering away in the shop all day and just stopped by for a coffee between jobs. Need to cut a piece of plywood to a template I made last night at the museum so we can make an elevated platform to transfer between a regular loop of track and an elevated trolley we put in on the new O gage display. Not much else going on right now.
Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year. Probably won't do mch more tonight beyond trying to stay awake until they drop the ball at Times Square. Just as soon put this year behind us and strat fresh. Cheers, J.R.

Hey ya'll.
Well after work today I spent about 2 hours weathering 7 hopper cars. I learned in the procsess why a friend said the Krylon Matte-finish is junk, since it' doesn't cover evenly, so I'll use dullcote from here on out.
I'm wondering if it's possible to use those cheap acrylic paints (like delta creamcoat) through an airbrush for a dusting effect. I have a tube of a color called "Charcoal black" and it looks really close to grimy black. I'm curious as how to get a light coat so I can speed up weathering on the rest of my coal hoppers; since it would take me close to 6 hours to do the rest of them (calculating from 7 in 2 hours, a kind of guess)
Tommorow is going to be a train day. Going to the club in the morning, then after that a club member is holding a session. What a way to start off the year.

To All,
Recent events in life, coupled with the whole New Years thing, have caused me to look a little closer at the things I hold as valuable to me. I mean, New Years is a time of retrospect and hope for the future. A recent death in my family has also gotten me to thinking along these lines. Someone who is close to you passing on into the afterlife will do that to you sometimes, you know?
After much thought and concideration, I think I've boiled it all down to the simple question of, "What's it worth to me.....really?" What I mean by this, is what are the things that I hold dear to me, you know, like close to the heart, and then what are the things that I can hold a little more loosely.
My first love is my Savior, Jesus the Christ. He is the one thing that gives the rest of life meaning.
My wife and my children are my second love. I know that if all else fails, they will stand with me and they will always keep me pointed to the most impostant thing, my God and my Savior. In this way, I have been greatly blessed indeed!
But there's another blessing I have that rates way up there, and that's my friends. By that, I don't just mean my friends that I see in my everyday life, the ones I hang out with and share meals with, but also my online friends. I mean, I've always placed value on my online friends, don't get me wrong, but I'd failed to realize how much I've come to value you all. What I'm saying I think, is that I'd already placed a high value on you all, but I'd failed to recognize the high level of that value.....does that make sense?
I don't think I took you all for granted (if I did, I'm sorry), but thinking about how much I've come to value the words of wisdom you all give to me and to others, the support that this community of friends experiences, and just being able to stop by and see posts from people I've become familiar with over the years, from Jeff's daily morning picture post, to, well heck, each and every one of you, well, it all means a lot.
I guess what I'm trying to say, in way too many run-on sentinces, is that I count you all as very special friends.
Thank You for enriching my life like you have.
And now, here's to many more years of even better friendship!

Packer, Aggro said using "Future Floor Finish" works good for a dull look. Just put it in the airbrush and spray away. To clean just use water. I'm not sure if you mix it thou. I can't remeber.
My weathered boxcar sold, which helps me out. Do I do another, I dont know. This boxcar is going to Australia. I have to make sure its boxed up real good.
I guess I will finish up watching "Saving Private Ryan." I really like that movie. After that nooooooo idea.

Jeff, that house of yours made me think of the Grandt Line (Corrugated Warehouse?) building - its backside, at least. I have plans to later get one of those and put it with the McGraw Oil Co. kit (that I do have), as the warehouse for the oil company (and where all those cases of auto oil are stored until being shipped out). It looks like you had a successful trip to the other (not-as) LHS. Good acquisitions!
Lee, at least you'll have trustworthy wiring by the time you get it all rebuilt and done. That's kinda scary to think that you'd been living in the house for years with that wiring the way it apparently was. How's your postal carrier doing lately - better, I hope? Glad your DCC shipment arrived - have fun learning that, and we'll expect your tutorial in a couple of weeks, right? And it's even neater that Dorothy got you the radio version. Remember that you need to plug the throttle into a jack to acquire/dispatch a loco (from what I've observed with guys in our club who have been using Digitrax a while). Once you've acquired the loco, you can unplug and play to your heart's content... By the way, do you have pics of your DPM/REA building? I have that kit, and may want to see how you added cargo doors to it, whether I do it as an REA building or otherwise.
Dick, after seeing the forecast tonight, it looks like your area's been on a seesaw of weather and temps the past week or two. We've just been cold since our front came through, and I don't think it's supposed to warm up very much by this weekend, just into the low-to-mid 50's (F).

Vincent - what did you use for your coal loads? Looks good! On those acrylic paints in an airbrush, be SURE to wash out the airbrush **immediately** after you finish, or they'll dry up in the 'brush, and that'll be its own problems...

Ray, how's your head (and lump) doing? As you said, it could've been much worse than it was. Still probably wasn't your favorite thing to do on an evening, I'm sure.

My plans for tonight are to listen to our local CCM (contemporary Christian music) radio station's music countdown until midnight, and to have a glass of wine to toast the New Year in. I did get in the two Athearn undecorated cabeese (ATSF type, metal style) today, so depending on how warm it is tomorrow outside, I might get the airbrush out and start painting base coats on those or some other kits I have. We'll see.
Or, I could stay here in the Diner and see if the New Year's Eve party here is as lively as some previous ones have been. Chloe, how sturdy is the chain on that chandelier? Has Flip been back in today, or Fergie? No, no reason, I suppose, just wondering....

Well, just finished off setting off the fireworks with my sister (she had some from July 4th). We are not celebrating 2009 as much because we (me&parents) leave at 4 a.m. tomorrow to drive to New York City. The sisters go to grandma's in Sarasota. The dog is also on edge and is trying to calm herself.
We took down all things Christmas today. Since I haven't had the chance, I'll mention some of the stuff I got. The movies Get Smart and 300. Madden '09 for Wii; Indian arrowheads (courtesy grandma) an AMC card (also grandma), some books, gift cards to book stores,and a Gregorian chant CD (among other things.
For my little sister I bought the new Harry Potter storybook and for my older little sister I bought some shirts. I gave my mom an Otis Redding CD and my dad a book by Dexter Filkins called The Forever War.
Jim: I'm used to hurricanes by now. I've been through a few and usually come out intact. I can't say the same for the neighbors tree though. In 2004 it crashed and blocked the street. Due to the storm I missed two weeks of school. Last time Tampa was directly hit by hurricane: 1921. Which is somewhat relieving...
Rob: Yeah, I could stand to watch Saving Private Ryan again, but I saw Kelly's Heroes instead.

Picked up a couple Greenmax Factory accessory sets, to work into my Soylent Green Plant (when the time comes to begin that project).
It will be in the 20's here in the wee hours, so tonight I hand carried some hay & alfalfa to the front pasture to get them through until morning. Good thing I checked, as they had run out.

Hi Gang, Just stopped in before bed. I'm like Rob, I won't be waiting up for the new year as I have to work all day tomorrow. But I didn't want to miss wishing all the good people here, that I indeed call my friends, a very Happy and Blessed New Year. My hope for each of you is that 2009 will be far superior to what 2008 has been.
There has been alot of very blue times for our crew here with health problems and home (HOUSE) problems, but with a wonderful spirit and good friends to support us and uplift us we have managed to over come, and that my friends is SUCCESS, and what friendship is all about.

We have about 4” of snow here and some flurries as the Alberta clipper moves off to Maine or the Finger Lakes (you guys enjoy it). They had to close parts of the main highways to re-salt the roads.
Dorothy is on her way over and I have Chinese dinner waiting and a bottle of M&R Asti Spumoni chilling in the fridge (I got the last bottle from the Base Exchange).

Jim, I hope to work on it this weekend. The prototype REA building in downtown Cleveland is still standing, but it is so big that the delivery trucks actually parked inside the building, my version is for a smaller outlaying town so the linen mil was the perfect fit. I used .020 V-Grove to make sliding cargo doors. I’ll have pictures to share….
Jeff, That is the same station I have, ATLAS has been making the same kits for as long as I can remember and they never go out of style! Nice Firehouse you picked up, I was hoping the fire trucks were on sale this month, but no just the fire chief cars are, oh well maybe next month. The volunteer department I was on maintained a 1950 ford chassis with an American LaFrance pumper unit on it for in town service, since I work mids at the time that was “my” truck, I hope to find one for the layout. The only reason my FD bought a new truck was to keep the insurance company happy. At the time if your department’s newest truck was more than 25 years old your insurance rates doubled.
