My sincere and deep sympathies to your and your family on the loss of your Grandfather. He sounds like a truly fine man from your description. But if God had to call him home, I would find solace in the fact that He called him home to help celebrate His Son's Birthday. My prayers go out to you. And I don't need to tell you that we will all be reunited in time. Blessings and prayers to you and your family--I will remember him and all of you in my Intentions tomorrow at Christmas Mass.

Ain't Christmas Eve fun? I just finished two Masses at St. Francis of Assisi--both packed to the rafters. Sound man came up to the grand piano and started miking me, then remembered who I was and grinned, "YOU don't need a mike!" I grinned back and said, "Thank you, sir." But oh, boy, I don't know what we'd do without our sound man--you guys are the absolute UNSUNG heroes of any successful service. Take a bow, friend! If anyone deserves it, it's you!

Uh-uh, LOL! Those Yellowstones were bought ESPECIALLY for reefer trains over the Sierras. They're my kinda-sorta answer to those beautiful SP Cab-forwards. My idea is that if it's a Yellowstone--backwards or forwards--they can haul anything you want to put behind them and haul it WELL! Actually, those Missabe hunkers spent as much time hauling freight on the Rio Grande during a couple of winters during WWII as they did on the Missabe hauling ore. VERY versatile locos, those handsome babies, by golly. Always wondered why those 18 Yellowstones never got the 'publicity' that the 25 UP Big Boys got, especially since they could generate as much tractive effort at speed as the 4-8-8-4's, and when you think of it, traveled a lot more country during the War. Oh well--on my Rio Grande Yuba River Sub, I like to hook them up to a nice, long train of reefers. They seem to be happy.

PS. A little fella whose Grandparents live next door to us was over for awhile this evening. He really sent A GP-20 and the Christmas train from around the tree flying. A few couplers are in various state of disrepair but it looks like everything will be fine with a little work. He was there with his mother while I had some nieces and nephews down stairs in the train room . Too bad they all arrived at the same time or I would have had it covered. All will be well.

Just stopped by to drop off some of Mothers homemade goodys for anyone who happens by.

The weather yesterday turned out ok for the trip to Lawrenceville for Uncle Loe's funeral. We did have the rain in the morning but the snow they had forecast never showed.
We've got another visitation to go to tomorrow night for my cousin Missy [38]. She died during the night Tues morning, when her car went off the road, hit a culvert, rolled and she was thrown out. She left behind 2 daughters.
Still haven't got ahold of Sally [I'm starting to worry some bout her now] to find out anymore on Jerry. We're going to try n get over to see him, but don't know when yet.
TODD... keep your hopes up the guesser's here are forecasting warmer, sunny n dry for next week. Maybe it'll slip that far north.
JIM... there's a couple 2 story double cabins over at Spring Mill state park in Mitchell IN along with a working gristmill. We use to camp there a lot several years ago and where I got the idea for mine. Lincoln logs are bit on the large size for HO. I'm using some sticks [that's been around here along time] that are bout 12" scale across. The problem is cutting the notches small enough. Try'd a file, sand paper, and a knife with no luck yet. I'll get it figured out one of these days.
Need ta get moving; I think we're going out to Debs dads this morning for awhile. Then it's back home till this evening with her mom n them. Thoughts for all those in need and hope ya'll has a very merry good day.

Thank you all for the kind words. His loss was tough since we were kind of close. We attended church together and he lives not far from here, so we'd stop by and see him here and there.
But you know what? Today is another day! It's a day of celebration!

***Lee, did indeed catch that Circus Train special. Too bad the wife slept through it. Did you catch the special on Toy Trains? Those early Kerosine burner versions with no speed control sure looked dangerous. Interesting and fun shows.
Wife didn't go to Chrismas brunch this morning because she just didn't have the desire for another confrontation with her crazy sister (control freak). A real shame but I don't fault her one bit.
Going to spend most of today here re-painting the poor job the contractor's painters did, and other touch up work.
It's a mud fest after the last rain. Won't try taking hay out until tomorrow. So, for today I'll carry pitchfork loads out to tie them over.

Robby, Thanks for sharing the other side of your backdrop. The best backdrops tend to be very simple. Shape and color will usually work better than intricate detail. Perhaps your idea of adding more green trees to the gray hillside would help it to blend. I will be anxious to see your progress.

Clutter and junk?? I’m not sure what you mean Garry. OH, you mean the spare parts and assorted things I haven’t got around to putting up yet . Including the two “fixer-uppers” over in the weeds that just need a little work as soon as I can get around to it. Gotta clean them out first. As soon as I can get the mower running I’ll get cleaning that up.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas. I did. Got some building kits, some flex-track and a couple of cars. The guys at our LHS really helped out the wife with useful but not too specific stuff. She,(they) did good. Should’ve come up with my Gas/food/bait stop sooner. Of course the coat I bought her was too small,(always buy too small, makes her feel good. She’s not really, but since about 40 she thinks she’s putting on to much weight. Aren’t we all),the matching soup bowls haven’t came in and she doesn’t trust me to pick out the right bedspread. Soooo, she sat and watched me open presents. I felt kinda bad. Had a good time with the kids and yep, you guessed it Johnboy, the Christmas train went flying. The dog came in the kitchen as if to say, ”It wasn’t me it was those Grandkids of yours” as she was leading me to the train wreck. Lucky it’s just one of those cheap battery powered sets on plastic track because when your not looking they are right in the middle trying to push the train.
Well, gonna see if I can get a nap in before bedtime so enjoy the rest of your day.
Sad day here. We burried our pot-bellied pig, Bacon Bits. Can't help but wonder if I did it with the tractor picking up hay today. Wife is sure Bacon was where we found her (about 20' from where I was pulling hay) sinse this morning. Still, seems like quite a coincidence. Couldn't tell what killed her for sure without an autompsy, which we were not going to do. Sweet Pea, last of our pot-bellied pigs, was lying beside her while I dug the hole. They always slept together before tonight. Rest in peace old friend.

We had a good Christmas visit with the family---such as could get here that is--- And we all went to church this morning---they did a service at 6AM here---just the 8 of us. "Spring' hid in the tree the whole time --he just came out 1/2 hr ago.
My wife got me NCE Power Cab DCC starter set(YEEHAW!!). and a couple of cylinder hoppers. I also got from my sister 15 40' boxcars as well as an ATLAS RS11 DCC unit--thankyou very much...

I have been out of sorts with all the snow mess. The cattle are eating 3 times as much as usual. $$$ I was relieved to see that they had not finished their hay this morning. We still have a foot that just won't go away.

Well I have survived the days activities. Went over to my son's house for breakfast. Got to open presents and play with my Granddaughter for a couple of hours there. She has gotten the hang of opening presents up. Really enjoys playing with the paper............... She is 17 months right now and a very busy little lady. Then I loaded up the rest of presents from me, a load of firewood, and the winter squash I cooked up yesterday that had been baking in the oven while I was at my Son's, and headed up to Christmas Dinner at my Sister's. She found a pair of NYC RR Car Inspectors Lanterns that she made my Christmas present this year. These would be dated around the turn of the last century. I would guess they are at least 100 years old. One at least still should work, possibly both. And the best thing is she didn't do anything like have someone paint and decorate them....... (well she is an art teacher.....and likes to do things like that.....). Photos will follow.
I also got some hobby tools and some other related items.
